Brady Phillips

Brady Phillips is Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Westover Hills Baptist Hospital in San Antonio, Baptist Health System's newest acute care hospital on the far west side. He has led all aspects of planning and development for the new campus at Westover Hills. Brady has served as Group Chief Strategy Officer for Baptist Health System and sister hospitals, Valley Baptist Health System and Nacogdoches Medical Center. Additionally, Brady has also served as the Interim Market CEO for Tenet's two Tennessee based Saint Francis hospitals. Brady joined Baptist Health System in May of 2016 as Director of Business Development and Associate Administrator at Baptist Medical Center. He has been with Tenet Healthcare since 2010 where prior to joining Baptist, he held various leadership positions within the Performance Management and Innovation Department, working on operational improvement, Lean Management, supply chain management, clinical and operational initiatives at a corporate level. Prior to joining Tenet, Brady served in a variety of roles at Scott and White Healthcare as well as the Willis Knighton Health System in Louisiana. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Baylor University and a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Healthcare Management from Baylor University.

Charles Handley

Charles Handley is Group Chief Financial Officer for Baptist Health System in San Antonio as well as our sister hospitals in Nacogdoches and the Rio Grande Valley. Before coming to Baptist, Charles was Group Chief Financial Officer for The Hospitals of Providence where he was instrumental in shaping the finance department and growth strategies for the El Paso market. Charles has been recognized multiple times by Becker's Healthcare as a "Top CFO to Know" for his commitment to strategically lead finance operations and continue to build a strong financial infrastructure. He has helped shape and build future financial leaders as a sponsor and mentor in the Financial Leadership Academy and has been recognized as a Circle of Excellence Outstanding Chief Financial Officer three times during his career which started in 1993 with Tenet Healthcare, Baptist's parent company.

Erik Frederick

Erik Frederick, M.H.A., joined the Baptist Health System team as the CEO for Mission Trail Hospital in late 2022. Erik has extensive experience in all aspects of hospital management, including strategic planning, overseeing staff, budgeting, and financial execution. We are welcoming Erik back to Baptist. He served as Director of Operations and Safety at Baptist Medical Center in previous years. Erik comes to us most recently from Mercy Hospital in Springfield, MO, where he was Chief Administrative Officer. Prior to Mercy Hospital, Erik was COO for Pen Bay Medical Center in Rockport, ME, a part of Coastal Healthcare Alliance. He has also served as COO for Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, part of Vanguard Health Systems, our former parent company. Erik is a decorated former U.S. Army Intelligence Specialist having served in Signals Intelligence. He earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Health Administration degrees from the University of Phoenix.

Joseph (Joe) Perez

Joseph (Joe) Perez is the Chief Mission & Ministry Officer for Baptist Health System in San Antonio since October 11, 2021. Joe began his ministry as the Pastoral Coordinator for the Sandi Jo Funk Hospice of the Valley Baptist Health System, Harlingen, in September 1992. After five years in Hospice, he became Pastoral Coordinator of Outpatient Services, and then became the Director of the Pastoral Services Department in the summer of 1999, promoted to Vice President September 2004. Joe was raised in Kentucky and received his Master of Divinity from The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY, in May 1989. He completed eight units of Clinical Pastoral Education training, which concluded with his placement as second year resident chaplain at Hermann Hospital in Houston. He has been a Board Certified Chaplain with the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) since 1998. He has served in various leadership roles with the APC, concluding in the role of President between 11/1/2019-10/31/20.

Kristen Lemus

Kristen Lemus, MSN, MHA, RN, is the Group Chief Nursing Officer for Baptist Health System's six acute-care hospitals in San Antonio and New Braunfels as well as our sister hospitals in the Valley and Nacogdoches, Texas. As CNE Kristen guides nursing practice and quality and is a mentor to nine Chief Nursing Officers. Kristen started with Baptist Health System in 2006. Prior to her present position, Kristen served as Chief Nursing Officer for Northeast Baptist Hospital. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from the University of Texas Health Science Center, a Master of Science in Nursing and a Master of Healthcare Administration from the University of Phoenix.

Mark Bernard

Mark Bernard is the President and CEO for Resolute Baptist Hospital. He brings more than 35 years of hospital leadership experience to the hospital. Prior to Resolute, Mark served as CEO at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Houston, as CEO for Northeast Methodist and Metropolitan Methodist hospitals in San Antonio and as CEO of Southwest General Hospital in San Antonio. Mark also led Garland Community Hospital in Garland, Texas as CEO, held the position of COO at Physicians' Community Hospital in San Leandro, California and was Assistant Vice President of Valley Health Enterprises in Sacramento, CA. Mark holds a Master of Arts in Hospital Administration and a B.S. in Microbiology from the University of Iowa. He has held numerous board positions including on the Incarnate Word Retirement Center, YMCA, Randolph Metrocom Chamber of Commerce and the Randolph Metrocom Rotary. Mark has been married for 31 years and has two grown children. He is an avid outdoorsman.

Matthew Stone

Matthew Stone has an extensive history with Baptist Health System, dating back almost 15 years. Most recently, in 2017, he became the North Texas Group CEO and President at Baptist Medical Center. From 2015 to 2017, Matthew served as the President at Northeast Baptist Hospital. Before he joined Northeast, from 2011 to 2015, Matthew served as Valley Baptist Health System's Chief Operating Officer. During that time, he saw a steep overall net revenue growth, surgical growth, improved HCAHPS Inpatient percentile score, reduced readmissions, and established the first Bariatric program. Prior to his time at Valley Baptist in Harlingen, TX, Matthew served as CFO at Northeast Baptist Hospital. After 4 years as CFO, he was promoted to President of the hospital in 2007. As CFO at Northeast Baptist Hospital, he oversaw the construction of an $85M expansion, increasing operational beds by 104. During the next 4 years as President, Matthew reduced employee turnover rates and developed a comprehensive employed hospitalist program. Matthew received his BBA from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Sowjanya Mohan

Sowjanya Mohan, MD is Group Chief Medical Director for Baptist Health System. Dr. Mohan has been with Baptist Health System for 13 years, having served most recently as System Medical Director of the Envision Hospitalist Group, which provides hospitalist services for Baptist Health System and Resolute Hospital. Dr. Mohan has been involved in several leadership roles at Baptist including chairperson for various committees, vice chief of staff and chief of staff. She was elected President of the Medical Executive Board in 2017. In her role as President Elect, she chaired the Quality committee and focused her attention on ensuring that our clinicians and staff were involved in processes and protocols to guide excellence in care for our patients. She assumed the position of President of the Medical Executive Board in September 2019 and as the COVID-19 pandemic effected our community, she was instrumental in guiding, advising and supporting the medical staff as well as the executive staff through a series of challenges while still working clinically to serve our communities. Dr. Mohan is a practicing physician specializing in internal medicine and infectious diseases. She completed her training in New York City and subsequently joined as faculty at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, GA. Dr. Mohan was awarded the Bexar County Medical Society Excellence in Hospital Medicine award in 2019 and has been a notable servant-leader throughout the community.

Stephanie Talley

Stephanie Talley is Baptist Health System's Group Chief Human Resources Officer (CHRO) and Chief HR Officer at Northeast Baptist Hospital. Stephanie leads Human Resources for our hospitals in San Antonio, New Braunfels, the Rio Grande Valley and Nacogdoches, Texas. Stephanie joined our parent company, Tenet Healthcare, in 1993 and has served in multiple leadership roles throughout the organization. Becker's Hospital Review named Stephanie to their list of "70 African American Leaders in Healthcare to Know" in 2019 & 2020. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from Pfeiffer University in Charlotte, North Carolina and a Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Phoenix.

Terry Treadwell

Terry Treadwell serves as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Northeast Baptist Hospital, bringing more than 40 years of extensive healthcare experience to the role. His tenure in the industry includes leadership positions in for-profit and joint -venture hospitals as well as government healthcare systems. Terry has a broad understanding of hospital operations, having worked in various positions from entry level to senior leadership. He began his healthcare career in the housekeeping, dietary, and security departments. He progressed his career by completing radiology technical training, gaining clinical expertise in multiple diagnostic imaging and procedural modalities. He also has held distinguished leadership roles in training/education, logistics, quality, and regulatory compliance. Over the past two decades, Terry has held leadership positions at prestigious health systems nationwide, including San Antonio. He is also a decorated member of the United States Air Force, having served in multiple operations. Retiring from active duty at the 59th Medical Wing, Wilford Hall Medical Center in San Antonio capping off a rewarding military career. Terry joins our team after successfully serving as the Chief Executive Officer of Merit Health River Region Medical Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. His leadership experience also includes holding the position of Chief Operations Officer at Doctor's Hospital of Augusta in Georgia and Northeast Methodist Hospital in San Antonio. Terry earned a Master of Business Administration from Our Lady of the Lake University and a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University here in San Antonio.

Thomas McKinney

Thomas McKinney serves as Chief Executive Officer of Baptist Medical Center in downtown San Antonio. Thomas McKinney, MHA, FACHE has more than 20 years of experience in hospital leadership and clinical operations. Before joining the Baptist team, Thomas served as market president of Christus Santa Rosa Hospital in San Marcos. In addition to oversight of the170-bed acute care hospital, McKinney also had responsibility for a multi-specialty provider group, additional clinical access points and a charitable foundation. Prior to Christus San Marcos, McKinney was president for Christus Spohn hospitals in Alice and Kingsville, Texas. He has held other hospital leadership roles at Christus hospitals across Texas. In addition to his tenure in hospital leadership, McKinney has a clinical background. He served as a clinical laboratory scientist at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and at Christus St. Michael Health System in Texarkana where he also held positions as director of laboratory services and director of cardiovascular services. McKinney holds a Master of Healthcare Administration from Seton Hall University in New Jersey. He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of North Texas, Denton and a Certificate of Completion in the School of Medical Technology from The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives.

Tripp Lyles

Tripp Lyles serves at Baptist Health System's Group Chief Strategy Officer. He returned to Baptist Health System in 2023 after two and a half years serving as Regional Vice President of the Southeast Region with United Surgical Partners, International, the ambulatory care division of Tenet Health. Tripp joined Baptist in 2017 and during his first tenure served, as Associate Administrator for Resolute Baptist Hospital as well as Strategy Officer. Prior to Baptist, Tripp was Director of Operations for Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in White Rock where he also held roles in business development and recruitment. Tripp earned a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Texas A&M at College Station and a Master of Health Administration in Health Care Administration from Trinity University.

Vicki Gulczewski

Gulczewski has worked for Baptist Health System for nearly 30 years, caring for patients at the bedside and guiding healthcare teams through roles she's held including as associate chief nursing officer, director of critical care, charge nurse of adult intensive care, pediatric intensive care coordinator, as well as nursing leadership roles in imaging services, and in intensive and diabetic care. Most recently, Gulczewski served as COO of St. Luke's Baptist, a position she held since 2015. Gulczewski earned a Master of Science in Nursing Administration from the University of Texas at Arlington and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio. She completed her RN diploma from Misericordia General Hospital School of Nursing in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Canada.

William "Bill" Waechter
