As it was such a nice morning thought I would clean some of our new stock out the front of the shop, I turned my attention to these Robin Day designed Polo chairs. Knee deep in suds whilst scraping off the usual chewing gum and unidentified muck I started to scrub some the permanent marker off the back of a couple of them. I then stopped and thought actually this is just as much part of their story as the naturally worn paint on some of our items which we make so much effort to conserve. If I were to scrub off these words they would be gone for good. Am I being over sentimental? Is this going too far on the patina flex? Time will tell, but for now in order to respect their history as hard working hospital chairs each set has one with an annotated back. We have a set of 4 in yellow from the 'Specimen Reception' and a set of 6 in putty from the 'Gynaecology' department. How cool is that?
