Bio
I joined TUM as a PostDoc in March 2024. Before that, I received my PhD from the Data Engineering Systems Group at the Hasso Plattner Institute (HPI) in Potsdam under the supervision of Tilmann Rabl.
My research focus is on data management with modern hardware. I am passionate about efficiently leveraging hardware in novel system designs. Currently, I am working on portable SIMD vectorization and cloud databases.
Before my PhD, I completed my M.Sc. at HPI with a strong focus on databases and stream processing. I wrote my thesis in collaboration with the DIMA Group @ TU Berlin. During my studies, I did two internships at Google in California and New York, working on stream processing.
Bio
Herbert holds a Master's degree in Information Systems from TU Munich (class of 2020) and a B.Sc. in Business Administration from Catholic University Eichstätt-Ingolstadt (class of 2017). He completed his Master's with a thesis on "Efficient event processing in the context of Non-intrusive Load Monitoring" at the Chair of Distributed Information Systems and Data Management under supervision of Prof. Jacobsen (now. University of Toronto).
During his studies, Herbert has worked at a leading technology consulting firm in Silicon Valley as visiting associate, where he has helped start-ups and established corporations shape their digital agenda. Having completed his studies, Herbert joined a global management consultancy in their CIO advisory practice. After time in the industry, he is now pursuing his Ph.D. and works as a research associate on federated machine learning systems at the TUM Chair of Distributed Information Systems and Data Management.
Herbert's research interests include distributed deep learning, federated ML, and economic potentials of these technologies.
Bio
Jeeta Ann Chacko completed her Bachelor of Technology (BTech) in Computer Science and Engineering from Cochin University of Science and Technology in Kerala, India in 2013. Then she worked as a Software Engineer in the R&D division at National Instruments, Bangalore, India for two years. Later, she received her MSc. in Informatics from the Technical University of Munich in 2018. Currently, she is pursuing her Ph.D. at the Chair for Application and Middleware Systems at TUM. Her research interests include Enterprise Blockchain Technologies, Business Process Management, and Database Models.
Duy Nguyen joined TUM as a PhD candidate in June 2023. Before that, he completed his M.Sc. in Computer Science from Sungkyunkwan University, South Korea.
Bio
Jana Vatter received her M.Sc. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Darmstadt in 2021.
During her graduate studies, she worked as a student assistant at the Ubiquitous Knowledge Processing (UKP) Lab and as a teaching assistant at the Interactive Graphics Systems Group (TU Darmstadt).
Currently, she is a researcher and Ph.D. student working on Systems for Graph Neural Networks at the Chair for Application and Middleware Systems at TUM.
Her research interests include various topics in Graph Neural Networks, large-scale Deep Learning, and Distributed Systems.
Marcus Müller received his B.Sc. in Computer Science from the Regensburg University of Applied Sciences in 2021 and his M.Sc. from the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg, in 2023.
He joined the Chair of Decentralized Information Systems and Data Management at TUM as a Ph.D. student in 2023. His research interests include efficient data structures, concurrency control, and buffer management.
Bio
Nikolai Merkel received his M.Sc. in Information Systems from the Technical University of Munich (TUM) in 2020. During his studies, he was a scholar in the Max Weber Program of the state of Bavaria and received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation.
Currently, he is pursuing his Ph.D. at TUM. His research interests are improving large-scale Graph Neural Network Systems, Graph Processing Systems, and Graph Partitioning.
