Benjamin Buckner

Dr. Buckner is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea and refractive surgeon specializing in LASIK, PRK, ICL, and cataract surgery. He is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, and the Utah Ophthalmology Society. He grew up in Lindon, Utah, and earned an undergraduate degree from Brigham Young University (cum laude, Edwin S. Hinckley Scholarship). Dr. Buckner attended the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School (AOA Honor Society scholarship) and interned at the Boise VA Medical Center. After completing his ophthalmology residency at the University of Missouri, he had a fellowship in Corneal Disease and Refractive Surgery at Hoopes Vision. After completing his fellowship, Dr. Buckner remains part of our practice amongst our team of medical professionals. He and his wife, Debi, have four children. He enjoys spending time with family and friends, water sports, and learning music. He speaks some Spanish and is accepting new patients.

David M. Parkinson

Meet Dr. David Parkinson, a dedicated optometrist with a passion for helping people achieve their optimal visual potential, who has a wealth of experience in primary care optometry, ocular disease management, and advanced vision correction procedures. Dr. David Parkinson was raised in a small farming town in Idaho before he attended and graduated from Brigham Young University-Idaho. After completing his undergraduate degree, Dr. Parkinson worked as the health coordinator at Mountainland Head Start in Provo, Utah. He helped connect families whose preschool-aged children needed vision, dental, and medical health examinations with appropriate providers. He then headed to Pacific University College of Optometry, gaining competency and clinical skills, graduating Magna Cum Laude. His clinical experience has involved primary care optometry, specialty contact lenses, treatment and management of ocular disease, and care for patients desiring LASIK, PRK, intraocular contact lenses, or cataract surgery. He thoroughly enjoys working with and aiding people in achieving their best visual potential. He resides in Orem, Utah, with his wife, Tara, and their two boys.

Dr. Bryan Frandsen

Dr. Bryan Frandsen grew up in South Jordan, Utah. He received his Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Brigham Young University before heading to Southern California to pursue his dream of vision care, graduating with his optometry degree from Marshall B. Ketchum University in 2021. During his time in Southern California, Dr. Frandsen worked in local optometry offices, volunteered to give eye exams to the homeless, and learned at the Ketchum Health University Eye Center and South Central clinics. He later completed externships at Camp Pendleton Naval Hospital, Salt Lake City Veteran Affairs, and Hoopes Vision. Dr. Frandsen is a member of the American Optometric Association and the Utah Optometric Association. His licenses include a Utah optometry license, a controlled substance license, and a CPR certification. When not helping patients, Dr. Frandsen enjoys spending time with his wife and two children. His favorite activities include spending time outdoors, playing board games with family, and anything sports related.

Dr. Kirk Drennan

From his humble beginnings in Sandy, Utah, Dr. Drennan has journeyed through an illustrious career in optometry, transforming lives locally and globally with his exceptional eye care services. Dr. Kirk Drennan was born and raised in Sandy, Utah, and graduated from Brighton High School in Cottonwood Heights. While attending Brigham Young University as a Trustees Scholar, Dr. Drennan discovered his love of eye care, working as an optometric and ophthalmic assistant. Accepted into Ohio State University's College of Optometry, he completed externships at renowned refractive and cataract surgery centers in central Ohio. Through his humanitarian efforts locally and internationally, thousands of needy individuals can see well. Dr. Drennan is a Utah and American Optometric Associations member and is fluent in Spanish. He and his beautiful wife, Annie, have five amazing children and reside in Sandy, Utah.

Dr. Michele Avila

Dr. Michele Avila is an alumna of The University of Kansas, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biology. She then received her Doctor of Optometry (OD) degree from The Ohio State University College of Optometry. After obtaining her optometric degree, she continued her training with an ocular disease residency in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Dr. Avila also interned with the Whiteriver Indian Hospital in Whiteriver, Arizona, and the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System in Tucson, Arizona. Dr. Avila primarily focuses on ophthalmic research and clinical trials. She is very passionate about research and the advancement of ophthalmic medicine and technology. Dr. Avila is a native of Wichita, Kansas. When not working, she and her husband, Jared, love watching and cheering on their Kansas Jayhawks and spending time with their friends and families.

Dr. Renee McIntosh

Discover the rigorous academic and professional path of Dr. Renee McIntosh, an accomplished optometrist whose education and residency training led her from Southern California to Salt Lake City, finally settling in Utah. Dr. Renee McIntosh graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southern California College of Optometry with a bachelor's degree in Visual Science. She then received her Doctor of Optometry degree from Southern California College of Optometry, in 1999. Her optometric education next brought her to Salt Lake City for training with specialists at Moran Eye Center and the VA Hospital. Dr. McIntosh completed a year of residency training at Illinois College of Optometry in Primary Eye Care. She resides in Bluffdale, Utah, with her husband, Eric, and their sons.

Dr. Tim Melton is an experienced optometrist from Riverton, Utah, with expertise in primary care optometry, ocular disease management, cataract surgery, LASIK, and PRK, fluent in Portuguese and a member of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Tim Melton was raised in Riverton, Utah, and graduated from Bingham High School in South Jordan. Following high school, he attended Brigham Young University - Idaho, on an academic scholarship, graduating with honors. He was selected as the State of Utah's optometry recipient of the Western Interstate Commission for Higher Education and attended the Southern California College of Optometry in Fullerton, California. He completed externships at The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, and the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center in North Las Vegas, Nevada. Dr. Melton has clinical experience in primary care optometry, treating and managing ocular disease, cataract surgery, and care for patients desiring LASIK and PRK. He is fluent in Portuguese and is a member of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Melton currently resides in Riverton, Utah. Dr. Melton enjoys skiing, sports, outdoor activities, and traveling.

Majid Moshirfar

An internationally renowned corneal and refractive4 surgeon, Dr. Moshirfar brings a history of innovation in cornea surgery, a strong background in clinical research, and a prolific legacy of academic teaching, publishing, and speaking. Dr. Moshirfar is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea specialist. He is the Clinical Director of Hoopes, Durrie, Rivera Research, and the program director for the Utah Cornea Fellowship at Hoopes Vision. Immediately before joining Hoopes Vision, Dr. Moshirfar spent a year as a Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of California, San Francisco. Before that appointment, Dr. Moshirfar served on the faculty of the University of Utah's John A. Moran Eye Center for 18 years, including 16 as the Director of Cornea and Refractive Surgery. Dr. Moshirfar specializes in cornea transplantation, refractive surgeries, keratoprosthesis (artificial cornea), management of difficult corneal disorders, complicated cataract extraction, keratoconus, infectious eye diseases, and other complex procedures of the cornea and anterior segment of the eye. Dr. Moshirfar has played a leading role in developing and disseminating these procedures, particularly in challenging refractive surgery techniques. Dr. Moshirfar has authored more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific publications and serves on the editorial boards of numerous scientific journals. He and his wife, Pegah, are parents of two sons and a daughter.

Michael J. Bradley

Get to know Dr. Bradley, a distinguished ophthalmologist in Salt Lake City renowned for his expertise in cornea and cataract surgeries, who brings a unique multilingual advantage to our practice. A native of Salt Lake City, Dr. Bradley received his undergraduate degrees in German and Biology at the University of Utah. He also attended medical school at the University of Utah School of Medicine. Dr. Bradley's ophthalmology training started with a residency at the University of Rochester in upstate New York. He then completed a prestigious Cornea and External Disease Fellowship at UC Irvine in southern California. He performed cornea transplants, cataract surgeries, and other anterior eye surgery with some of the country's most respected cornea and cataract surgeons. Dr. Bradley and his wife, Melanie, are the parents of two sons. He speaks fluent Spanish, German, and a little Samoan.

Phillip C. Hoopes

With a background in top medical institutions, Dr. Hoopes is an expert in LASIK and refractive surgeries. Learn more about his impressive career and expertise in vision correction below. Dr. Hoopes is a Utah native and Wake Forest University School of Medicine graduate in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He completed his eye surgery training at the University of Iowa Eye Center. Following his residency, Dr. Hoopes did his fellowship training in cataract, implant, and laser surgery in Savannah, Georgia. He has been a Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary member at Harvard University, a Clinical Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Kansas University Medical Center, and a Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Utah Moran Eye Center. In 1984, he established The Eye Center of Kansas City in Overland Park, Kansas. His practice grew rapidly and was considered one of the largest eye care practices in the Midwest. His Kansas City office was one of a dozen centers involved in the original FDA studies and testing of laser eye surgery (PRK/LASIK) starting in 1989. After FDA approval, Dr. Hoopes performed the first FDA-approved Summit Technology Laser PRK procedure for myopia and astigmatism on March 16, 1998. Dr. Hoopes relocated back home to Utah in May 2000 and has performed over 110,000 successful LASIK and refractive surgeries and over 42,000 cataract and other vision correction procedures. Dr. Hoopes and his wife, Marilyn, are the parents of eight children and 31 grandchildren.

Steven H. Linn

He completed an additional residency program at Hunkeler Eye Centers specializing in Corneal Disease and Refractive Surgery Management. Dr. Linn has participated as a co- or sub-investigator in more than 20 ophthalmic clinical trials, including refractive laser technologies, cataract intraocular lenses, ophthalmic drugs, and other refractive implants. Dr. Linn is a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and the Optometric Council on Refractive Technology and has given scientific presentations at numerous professional meetings.
