Amanda Blons

Amanda Blons knew that she wanted to be a trial lawyer when she was just 6 years old, though her path to get there was long and winding. Now that she has reached her goal, Amanda uses her skills and experience to be an advocate for those that need it most. Before attending law school, Amanda attended Aurora University, where she graduated cum laude with a BA in Political Science. From there, life took her to six states in five years, before she settled down with her family in Texas. When the ability to attend law school seemed like a reality, Amanda jumped on the opportunity. She attended the University Of Houston Law Center where she dove headfirst into gaining as much hands-on experience as possible. Amanda participated in clinics such as Juvenile Justice and Criminal Defense. As a tutor selected by her professor, she was able to help the newest students entering the Law Center understand Contract Law. Amanda's biggest passion in law school was being a member of the UHLC Mock Trial Team, which she participated in all three years. In her second year, she won the intra-scholastic mock trial tournament, which she went on to direct the following year. In her third year, she participated in three national competitions. She was a Semi-Finalist in the South Texas Mock Trial Competition, where Amanda was named Outstanding Advocate. Her most cherished law school honor is being named to the Order of Barristers, a National Honor Society for students demonstrating strengths in trial advocacy. Amanda is a member of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association and assists with judging and coaching the mock trial team at UHLC.

Andrew Dao - Shareholder

Andrew is a Shareholder at Daly & Black. He obtained his B.A. in Economics from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was a National Merit Scholar and Jones Scholar. He then obtained his J.D. from the University of Houston Law Center. Throughout his career, he has counseled individuals, small and mid-size businesses, and Fortune 500 corporations in a wide array of civil litigation matters. His experience includes handling catastrophic injury and death cases, product liability cases, maritime and Jones Act cases, qui tam, and commercial litigation disputes-on the plaintiff and on the defense side. His experience on both sides of the aisle provides him with a unique perspective, allowing him to move out ahead of arguments and prepare effective strategies to attack or counter the adverse side. Andrew has conducted hundreds of depositions, including those of corporate representatives, individuals, and experts across numerous disciplines. He has supervised and trained incoming associate attorneys. He has argued hundreds of hearings, including those on motions for summary judgment, motions to transfer venue, motions to dismiss, special appearances, forum non conveniens motions, and motions to strike or exclude experts. He has served on the trial team for numerous trials, including the prevailing side in five verdicts named in Texas Lawyer's Verdicts Hall of Fame. In total, Andrew has been a part of the trial team for cases that have resulted in over $450 million in verdicts and settlements. In addition to his litigation and trial practice, he has appellate experience at the state and federal level. This includes arguing and prevailing at the Supreme Court of Texas. Clarissa Rivera

After graduating at the top of her class from Brownsville Early College High School, Clarissa Rivera attended the University of Texas at Austin where she graduated in three years with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Plan I Honors history and government with a minor in Latin American Studies. After earning her undergraduate degrees and accepting a full-tuition scholarship, Clarissa promptly moved to San Francisco, California, and pursued her passion for advocacy at Golden Gate University School of Law before ultimately transferring and earning her Juris Doctor degree at the University of Houston Law Center. During the course of her academic career, Clarissa held two legal positions in the public sector and interned at a criminal defense law firm. After being exposed to several practice areas, Clarissa redirected her legal experience and began working at a Houston-based plaintiffs' personal injury law firm where she gained valuable litigation experience and a passion in advocacy for injured people. Whereas her practice focuses on a wide range of civil litigation areas, her principal focus is on obtaining the best verdicts and settlements her clients justly deserve while helping guide them through some of the most difficult moments of their lives. Darwin Blanco

Darwin Blanco graduated with an undergraduate degree in criminal justice in 2016. During his undergrad, Darwin interned at the Harris County Court at Law. Along with his internship, he also gained over five years of customer service. Following graduation, Darwin earned his Paralegal Certificate from the University of Houston-Downtown. Darwin joined the team at Daly & Black PC in 2017. At Daly & Black, he works as the Litigation Director. Darwin has a passion for law and is willing to do whatever it takes to help the attorneys; and most importantly the clients. Heather Murrell joined Daly & Black Colorado in 2019. Heather brings over 25 years of experience in the legal field to her cases. Prior to joining Daly & Black, Heather worked 16 years for Cozen O'Connor P.C., an international law firm based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and 9 years in the Legal Department at Great-West Life & Annuity Insurance Company. Heather works on first-party insurance cases and personal injury matters. In all aspects of her practice, Heather organizes, analyzes, and evaluates complex information; Heather also assists with the preparation of legal documents, discovery, and trial. Through her varied responsibilities, Heather has gained extensive knowledge of the substantive and procedural aspects of litigation. John Scott Black focuses his practice on first party insurance claims, complex commercial litigation, mass tort litigation for plaintiffs, and catastrophic personal injury litigation. John has tried cases to jury verdict as first chair in both state and federal court for both plaintiffs and defendants, and is licensed to practice law in Texas, Kentucky, Colorado and Nebraska. John has also taken the lead role in successfully arbitrating complex cases, and arguing matters to Texas courts of appeal. Karen continued her passion for the public finance sector at Mayor Day & Caldwell, where her skills were put to good use in the expanding practice of public finance. However, the highlight of her legal career was working in the City Attorney's office for the City of Houston. Guadalupe (Lupe) joined Daly & Black in 2018 as an intake specialist. Prior to joining the Daly & Black team, Lupe was employed with AIG as an intake specialist where she gained her knowledge and experience. Lupe's dedication and work ethic are transparent, which is one reason why Daly & Black's clients are drawn to her. Moreover, Lupe is fluent in Spanish and, therefore, a tremendous asset not only to the firm but to the firm's Spanish-speaking clients. Melissa Waden Wray - Chief Legal Officer

Melissa Wray is an experienced litigator who has represented clients on both sides of a wide variety of litigation matters, including commercial litigation, labor and employment, civil rights, personal injury, toxic tort, and intellectual property. Melissa has tried cases in state and federal court and has extensive motion practice experience. She has successfully briefed and argued cases to the Texas Supreme Court, multiple intermediate Texas appellate courts, and the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit. Melissa began her legal career with Gardere Wynne Sewell (now Foley & Lardner), LLP, one of the largest full-service law firms in the Southwest. She was an associate for two years in the Austin office of California-based Brobeck Phleger & Harrison, LLP, which was at the time one of the largest law firms in the country, and worked for Beard Kultgen Brophy Bostwick & Dickson, LLP, a well-respected boutique firm in Waco, Texas. Patrick McDonald

Patrick McDonald is a Combat Veteran who completed three combat tours as and Airborne Ranger while serving in 3 rd Ranger Battalion at Fort Benning, GA. He then went on to train soldiers preparing to deploy for combat operations. In 2013 Patrick McDonald became an Insurance Adjuster and worked claims in over 30 States before becoming a Public Insurance Adjuster in 2016. Patrick McDonald is now pursuing a Law Degree and works for Daly and Black reviewing claims. Patrick McDonald is committed to being the best possible advocate for clients of Daly and Black and takes the leadership skills and determination he learned serving the Army to fight for the clients of Daly and Black. Richard Daly - Founder

Richard Daly has been a trial attorney for almost 20 years, with a concentration in litigation against insurance companies or corporate defendants, overtime lawsuits, business litigation (oil and gas, real estate and general commercial) and personal injury. Richard is licensed in both Texas and Kentucky. Before starting his own firm, he was with Caddell & Chapman, one of the most respected plaintiffs' shops in Houston. Prior to that, Daly was a partner at Gardere Wynne Sewell LLP, one of the largest defense firms in Houston. He believes his experience on both sides of the courtroom makes him uniquely qualified to analyze prospective cases, determine their likely outcome and develop a prudent plan for moving forward. Daly attended the University of California, Los Angeles, on a football scholarship, playing tight end for the Bruins. After a brief stint with the Denver Broncos, he attended the University of Illinois Law School, where he graduated magna cum laude and Order of the Coif (top 10 percent), as well as top 10 in his class.

Sylvia Zuniga-Vargas

Sylvia Zuniga-Vargas has been a paralegal for over 30 years and is passionate about the type of work she is involved with on a daily basis. Helping people is important to her and this is one reason she is excited to be a part of the Daly & Black, P.C. team. Before joining Daly & Black, P.C., Sylvia was employed at the Juranek Law Firm where she assisted in the handling of personal injury cases from claim status to all phases of litigation. Sylvia also had the opportunity of working at Caddell & Chapman, a well-respected Plaintiffs' boutique law firm, where she assisted with the firm's mass tort docket involving more than 100 Ford/Firestone clients from Venezuela and Mexico. Sylvia, who is bilingual and has vast experience in client communications, assisted in securing critical evidence and obtaining discovery responses from clients. Sylvia was also the lead paralegal working with the firm's 26 clients in the BP explosion matter that involved heavy client communication, securing discovery, assisting in securing workers' compensation benefits, and negotiating a reduction of Medicare liens. Prior to that, Sylvia was employed at Fleming & Associates where she took the lead paralegal role of overseeing approximately 200 Sulzer hip implant cases that involved heavy client communication, communication with the claims administrator, attorneys, and physicians to secure and obtain accurate claim documentation, review and summarize medical records, and document organization. Sylvia was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas, but has called Houston her home for over 29 years. She graduated summa cum laude from Letourneau University with a Bachelor of Business Management. She also attained a Certificate in Paralegal Studies from Texas Paralegal School. Sylvia is an avid animal lover. While her three cats and two dogs are rescue pets, Sylvia can be heard saying how they rescued her as they have provided so much unconditional love. While at TCU, Thompson was a paid writer for the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas, and he participated in TCU's Moot Court program. Taylor also participated in the Model United Nations Program, where he was nominated as the "Outstanding Delegate," and was honored to speak in the United Nations General Assembly Hall in New York City. Taylor was Vice President of the Philosophy Club, a member of Phi Gamma Delta, where Taylor served as Rush and Philanthropy chair, and a member of the Order of Omega Honors Fraternity. Thomas worked in his home state of Colorado as a property manager while attending the University of Denver Daniel's College of Business as a provost scholar, graduating cum laude in 2011. Thomas obtained his Juris Doctor from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law in 2016. During law school, Thomas was a member of the National LawMeets Transactional Moot Court Team, represented small businesses through the Community Economic Development Clinic, was a TA in Legal Writing, served as a judicial extern for the Honorable Tammy Kay Greene at the Jefferson County Court, and interned at premier land reuse and redevelopment company. Thomas maintains an active presence in his community and, as a writing adviser for the University of Denver Sturm College of Law Bar Success Program, provides feedback on writing assignments to graduating students and alumni throughout the study period prior to the bar exam. Thomas is a member of the Minoru Yasui American Inn of Court, whose members meet monthly to hold programs and discussions on matters of ethics, skills, and professionalism. Veronica Hernandez is the firm administrator for Daly & Black, P.C. Ms. Hernandez is responsible for the day-to-day operation and management of the office. She is also responsible for providing administrative leadership for the office. With over 20 years of legal and business experience, Veronica has developed a successful career path and understands the high demands a productive law firm requires. She is highly motivated and is very knowledgeable of the day-to-day tasks required to manage the firm. Before joining Daly & Black, P.C. she worked at Laucius & Associates, a defense firm as an office manager, and at Caddell & Chapman, a well-respected Plaintiff's firm as a paralegal. Her previous office manager and paralegal positions at these two well-respected firms have given her the skills to master the booming new field of legal work and office management. Veronica was born and raised in Houston. She has been married to her husband, Carlos, for 25 years. Veronica and Carlos are proud parents of 4 sons: Carlos, Adrian, Steven, and Jonathan. They enjoy traveling especially when it involves an away game for the Houston Astros and Houston Texans.
