Cecil Konijnendijk

Cecil has over 25 years of experience studying, teaching, and advising on aspects of urban forestry and nature-based solutions. He is widely considered as one of the world's leading urban forestry experts, and his work has been featured by leading media outlets such as CNBC and in international documentary films. A Dutch national, he has lived and worked in Europe, Asia, and North America. He is an honorary professor of urban forestry at the University of British Columbia. Cecil helped found the leading academic journal Urban Forestry & Urban Greening, and edited seminal textbooks such as The Routledge Handbook of Urban Forestry. He is currently Editor-in-chief of Arboriculture and Urban Forestry, the scientific journal of the International Society of Arboriculture. He has published widely. Cecil is passionate about using trees and nature to develop better cities, and always stresses the importance of building meaningful relationships between people and places. He has advised international organisations such as the United Nations (FAO and UNECE), as well as national and local governments in more than 30 countries, and was an invited panellist at the 8th Ministerial Conference on the Protection of Forests in Europe in April 2021. In autumn 2023 his new book ‘Rethinking Urban Green Spaces' will be published by Edward Elgar Publishing. Cecil currently lives in the Dutch city of Zeist with his spouse Andrea.

Corey Bassett

Corey Bassett is a PhD Student at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, BC, Canada, where she is researching urban forest management and ecosystem services. She has worked and lived across the United States, where she has managed statewide urban and community forestry programs, performed arboricultural consulting and municipal tree care, and written many grants. She is very active around issues such as establishing career and mentorship pipelines for early career professionals, setting standards for tree care for wildlife, and connecting urban forestry with related disciplines. Corey currently serves as the first Student Representative to the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Board of Directors, Public Outreach Director for the Pacific Northwest Chapter of the ISA's Board of Directors, core member and co-author for the Tree Care for Wildlife program of the Western Chapter ISA, and co-author for the upcoming edition of the ISA Certified Arborist Study Guide. Corey is an ISA Certified Arborist and holds the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. She completed a Master's in Environmental Studies, concentration Environmental Biology, and B.A. in Earth Science, concentration in Environmental Science, both from the University of Pennsylvania.

Elin Rowicki

Elin Rowicki graduated 2020 with a bachelor's degree in landscape engineering from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. In her last year of the education, she focused on courses on vegetation knowledge and tree care. Elins bachelor's thesis was based on a science experiment at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, where trees were exposed to stress to evaluate trees' responses to a future urban climate. During her studies she worked as a research assistant in this experiment. After graduation was employed as a course administrator at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences​. During 2014-2016 she also studied human rights. Elin has a keen interest in how trees can contribute to a healthier and more sustainable environment, both on a global and local scale.

Gustav Nässlander

Gustav works as a tree consultant where he, among other things, produces tree management plans and reviews policies. Gustav has a special interest in communication and frequently does presentations in the subjects around communicating the benefits of urban green. Gustav believes that all of us would benefit from getting a broader knowledge of the benefits contributed by green spaces and trees. By quantifying and communicating these benefits to the public and stakeholders, we can get the means and resources to produce and manage high quality green spaces. Gustav has a bachelor degree in garden science and is a ISA Certified Arborist. Besides working as a consultant Gustav produces the Swedish acclaimed podcast "Trädpodden" (The tree podcast)."

Jeremy Barrell

Jeremy Barrell is the Managing Director of Barrell Tree Consultancy, one of Britain's leading planning and legal tree management practices. During his early career, he worked for the UK Forest Service before establishing his own tree contracting business in 1980, which evolved into his current consultancy in 1995. Jeremy is an accomplished expert witness, regularly appearing in the English High Court, and is a frequent keynote speaker at international conferences, authoring more than 150 articles and papers on tree management. Johan Östberg

Johan Östberg is Associate Professor with a PhD in Landscape Planning. Over the course of his career to date, he has produced over 100 publications, including reports, book chapters, popular and scientific reports, and peer-reviewed articles. He has been involved in a plethora of national and international networking and project activities. Moreover, he has been vice chairman of the The Urban Tree Growth & Longevity Working Group and chairman for AREA (Arboriculture Research and Education Academy)

Keith Sacre

Keith Sacre has a MSc in Arboriculture and Urban Forestry, a BSc in Arboriculture, a BSc in Social Science and a post graduate diploma in management studies. He is currently a director at Barcham Trees, the largest container tree nursery in Europe. He is a co-founder of Treeconomics, a founder member and trustee of the Trees and Design Action Group and a trustee of the UK Arboricultural Association and is a previous chair of the Association. Keith has over 30 years of experience in the nursery industry and was the lead author of the UK British Standard Trees: From Nursery to Independence in the Landscape published in 2014. Prior to working in the nursery industry he spent several years managing and developing public open space in the local authority sector. Keith has travelled extensively across the world viewing both nursery practice and urban forestry management with a particular focus on young trees. He has spoken at conferences in the UK, USA, Australia and across mainland Europe and writes extensively for numerous periodicals and journals. He was the instigator of and developed the Barcham Trees Seminar Series and is the organizer of the company's well known ‘Big Barn Conference' both of which have attracted speakers from across the world. He has also written and published three advisory manuals on young tree production, management and maintenance

Kenton Rogers

Kenton Rogers is a Chartered Urban Forester with a masters degree in Forest Ecosystem Management. During his 25 year career he has worked on a wide range of projects in Europe and and North Africa, was a Trustee of the International Tree Foundation for over 10 years, and is also a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. Kenton is also Co Founder of Treeconomics, an employee owned Social Enterprise based at the University of Exeter Science Park, which specialises in urban forest assessment, valuation and management. Kenton has written many popular articles and scientific papers on the role of trees and urban forests. He was also a contributing author on the UK National Ecosystem Assessment and the Springer Handbook on ‘The Urban Forest' and most recently co-authored the Haynes Manual for Trees. Kenton provides expert advice and training on i-Tree, tree valuation, urban forest planning and the tree benefits approach to groups such as EU cost Action FP1204, the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, the house of commons and UK Forest Research amongst others.

Matilda van den Bosch

Matilda van den Bosch is an Associated Researcher at the Barcelona Institute of Global Health, ISGlobal, Spain, and an Adjunct Professor at the University of British Columbia, Canada. Her work lies in the interface of human health and the health of our surroundings with the goal of contributing to urban policies that promote healthy environments for both humans and ecosystems. Most of her research has focused on the human health benefits of contact and exposure to urban natural environments. She is the primary editor of the Oxford Textbook of Nature and Public Health (2018) and she leads several research projects related to climate change, childhood health, and urban green space mitigation. For NBSI she works on projects and events related to the importance of nature for our health and wellbeing.
