Armand Hurter

As well as being a veterinary assistant, Armand is a polocrosse player with a great admiration for horses, all shapes and sizes. With his varied responsibilities in the nurturing and recovery of our four-legged friends, he is grateful to be working with the Vetscape team whom he regards as pioneers in their field.

Dorcas Mayono

Dorcas is a registered nurse from the Congo and acts as our theatre assistant in both the small animal and equine clinics.

Dr Christie Boucher

Job Titles:
  • Opthalmology Specialist
Dr Christie Boucher completed her veterinary degree in 2000 at Onderstepoort, University of Pretoria. The travel bug called and she left for the United Kingdom where she worked for a number of years. It was here where she acquired an interest and love for ophthalmology and proceeded to complete a certificate of the European School of Veterinary Postgraduate Studies in Ophthalmology. Christie has attended numerous international conferences and courses during her travels abroad. Back on South African soil she received the opportunity to follow her dream and study further in Ophthalmology at the University of Pretoria. She obtained her Honours degree in 2015 and qualified as a Veterinary Ophthalmology Specialist in 2017 when she obtained her Master's degree. She has worked at the Johannesburg Animal Eye Hospital since 2016 before moving down to the Cape this year. In her spare time she enjoys running and cycling, when not running around after her kids.

Dr Frans van Heerden

Frans graduated from Onderstepoort in 2012. After qualifying he worked as a general veterinarian in Kimberley and Nelspruit, during which time he completed an honours degree in small animal surgery. He returned to OP in 2016, subsequently completed a residency in small animal surgery and fulfilled the requirements for a master's degree in small animal surgery in 2019. His interests in the field of surgery are always developing, and he currently enjoys minimally invasive and orthopedic surgery. During his spare time, he participates in trail running and mountain biking.

Dr Tabitha Prior

Tabitha graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from University of Pretoria in 2017, completed compulsory community service in Peddie in the Eastern Cape in 2018 and then worked at an Equine Hospital in Summerveld, KwaZulu-Natal. She completed her Master's in Companion Animal Clinical Studies in 2020. Tabitha aspires to be an equine vet with a special interest in surgery, lameness and diagnostic imaging. In her free time, she enjoys yoga, leisure riding, reading and a good glass of wine. She is pet mum to three crazy kittens: Moppet, Mittens and Tom Kitten, named after Tabitha Twitchit's kittens from the world of Beatrix Potter.

Dr. Andrew Gray - Founder

Dr. Andrew Gray qualified from Onderstepoort in 2002. He worked locally in the Cape for 3 years; first as an Emergency night vet and then as an equine veterinarian based at Milnerton Racecourse. He then accepted a position in Australia where he worked in an equine practice servicing a large sport horse community which also included racing and trotting horses. On return to South Africa he became a partner at Drakenstein Veterinary Clinic and focused on equine surgery and lameness. He completed a European College of Veterinary Surgery residency program through the University of Lyon France.

Dr. Charlie Boucher

Dr. Charlie Boucher graduated from Onderstepoort (Faculty of Veterinary Science), University of Pretoria in 2002. Shortly after qualifying he went abroad to the United Kingdom where he spent the next 10 years working as a veterinary surgeon. During this time he obtained his general practitioner certificate in small animal surgery. He was also the practice director for a veterinary clinic in South- West London (Companion Care, Raynes Park) during most of his stay in the UK. He returned to South Africa in 2012 to pursue his dream and specialize in small animal surgery at the University of Pretoria. During his time at the university he was employed as a senior lecturer and in 2018 he was elected as the head of the Small Animal Surgery Department. He enjoys all aspects of small animal surgery, but has a particular interest in orthopaedics and neurosurgery. During his spare time he enjoys fishing, hiking, running and mountain biking.

Dr. Danny Kabeya

Danny is a veterinarian from the Congo who works with our small animals vets and helps our specialist surgeon Dr. Charlie Boucher with anaesthesia during surgeries.

Dr. Niel Moelich

Niel qualified in 2002 at Onderstepoort University of Pretoria. He joined the EmbryoPlus Team in Brits, North West, specialising in semen freezing, embryo flushing and transfers. In 2004 he went abroad, working at various equine practices in the United Kingdom , gaining experience in general equine disciplines including polo, sporthorses, race and track work, stud work and dentistry. He returned to South Africa in 2007, joining Fourways Equine Clinic, concentrating on racehorse work and equine reproduction. In 2014 he joined Croft Animal Hospital in the Southern Cape, heading up the equine side of the practice, again focusing on reproduction work and gained experience in wildlife immobilisation, quite enjoying hanging out of helicopters darting.

Dr. Sonia Marcos Serralta

Dr. S Marcos graduated from the University of Barcelona in Spain as a cum laude student. She starter her career as Equine Veterinarian with a year internship at the Barcelona University's Referring Hospital. After that, she worked in an equine ambulatory clinic in Spain for four years. With the working experience, she developed a strong interest in Equine Surgery and after spending some time in different European hospitals, she came to South Africa to join the team of Drakenstein Veterinary Clinic. She is currently registered with the SAVC and is part of the Equine Surgical Team of Vetscape Animal Hospital. Due to her surgical interest, she is studying a postgraduate degree with the University of Liverpool with special interest in Equine Orthopaedic and Soft Tissue Surgery. In her free time, she is a passionate dressage rider and enjoys going for walks with her dogs.

Elmine van Rooyen

Josie Susman

Josie grew up in a farm-like environment in South Africa which gave her a love for all animals. When not working at Vetscape, you can find her riding bareback or rescuing animals.

Kira Louw

Nature has always played a prominent role is Kira's life. she grew up jumping between the ocean and the mountainside, seeking adventure. With this came a deep love for animals. She is grateful for this job at Vetscape. It has bound science and the beauty of nature, allowing Kira to experience animals in an entirely different way.

Kylie Chilton

Kylie qualified with a National Diploma Vet nursing in 2012 at Onderstepoort. Kylie is married with three furbabies. Cooper and Bailey are her two Labradors and Sprout her cat. Kylie loves reading and running.

Marilynn Hendricks

Marilynn Hendricks is married with a beautiful daughter. Her daughter's cat is called Lord Greystoke and lives with Marilynn and her family. She is a fully qualified Management and tax accountant and aspires on a daily basis to enhance her knowledge and skills.

Mariska Ellis

Mariska has found joy in being around animals, especially horses, since she was a child. When she matriculated she pursued equine studies, after which she landed a job at Avontuur where she worked during the foaling season. She was thrilled to receive the offer to work at Vetscape. This job has opened her eyes to w hole new world of working with horses. She plans to use this experience to decide if a career in veterinary nursing is what she wants to pursue.

Monique Davy

Monique qualified with a National Diploma in Veterinary management in 2014. She is married with a lovely daughter and two dogs named Jasper and Charles. She also has a rescue cat called Christie. Monique was quite the swimmer in her days and continues her love for swimming today

Horses are Storm's life passion. She has ridden since she was a child and has always striven to further expand her knowledge of horses. After school she studied equine ethology and it is her goal to study and qualify as an equine veterinary nurse.
