Angela E.L. Barnes - Chief Legal Officer

General Counsel; Director, Legal Affairs & Growth Initiatives Angela E.L. Barnes serves as the General Counsel, Director of Legal Affairs & Growth Initiatives for City Tech Collaborative. In her role, Angela handles all legal issues and provides strategic leadership for growth opportunities of the company. Angela has extensive experience advising corporations in highly regulated industries, including; insurance, technology, construction, engineering, and real estate. She has helped numerous charitable and philanthropic entities define and manage their risk profiles and strategies. Angela has been actively involved on the board of directors of various charitable organizations throughout Chicago for over 25 years. She currently sits on the board of directors for the Chicago Coalition for the Homeless and serves as the President of the board of directors for the Center on Halsted. Prior to joining City Tech, Angela served as General Counsel & Director of Business Operations for MxD (formerly known as UI LABS), where she handled all legal and compliance issues for the company. Angela was awarded her Juris Doctor from Columbia University and Bachelor of Arts from Wellesley College. She is a Certified Compliance and Ethics Professional (CCEP) and a member of the Society of Corporate Compliance and Ethics (SCCE).

Anthony Butler

Anthony Butler is the Manager of Operations at City Tech Collaborative. In this role, Anthony is responsible for overseeing program operations, including team management, finance and accounting, legal, IT and facility. Before joining City Tech Collaborative, he was the Manager of Corporate Events at UI LABS where he oversaw and organized events in a way that had an impact for current and prospective partners. Prior to that he was the Catering Manager for Eurest Dining at the law firm Kirkland & Ellis. Anthony holds a bachelor's degree in Finance and International Business from Illinois State University. He enjoys spending his down time listening to a variety of podcasts and old Motown records.

Brenna Berman - CEO

Brenna Berman serves as CEO & Executive Director of City Tech. Prior to joining City Tech, Brenna served in Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel's administration, which she joined in 2011. She served as the Chief Information Officer for the City and Commissioner for the Department of Innovation & Technology (DoIT) from 2012 to 2017. In that time, she focused on transforming the team at DoIT to provide the skills and expertise to implement the Mayor's vision of data-driven resident services and of a more efficient, effective, and innovative City government. This meant adding new skills to the team to increase the focus on software engineering and analytics, improving the department's commercial partnerships to drive savings for the City, and identifying ground-breaking civic partnerships. During her tenure as CIO, Brenna delivered on the Mayor's commitment to a robust open data program, integrated advanced analytics into many city departments, drove IoT innovation for the City through unique partnerships at City Tech and the founding of the Midwest IoT Council, and, in partnership with the University of Chicago, realized the vision of urban-scale sensing with the Array of Things. Prior to joining the Emanuel Administration, Brenna built a career promoting government innovation over 10 years at IBM, where she worked closely with government agencies in cities and countries across the world to leverage technology and analytics to improve the services they provide to their residents. She advised governments on a variety of issues, from targeting personalized services through analytics to normalizing program offerings to simplify the delivery process and make them understandable to residents. Throughout her time at IBM, Brenna tailored cutting-edge business and data models, from processes to analytic algorithms for large government organizations in order to accelerate their own modernization efforts. Brenna earned her bachelor's degree and Masters in Public Policy from the University of Chicago.

David Leopold

David Leopold is the Director of City Solutions at City Tech Collaborative. In this role, he facilitates cross-sector collaboration among universities, government, and industry to drive innovative solutions to complex urban challenges. Prior to joining City Tech in 2015, David was Program Manager for the Chicago Department of Transportation Streetscape and Sustainable Design Program, where he directed nearly $100 million of policy, planning, and construction projects ranging from pocket parks and public markets to streetscapes and master plans. David has a bachelor's degree in operations and strategic management from Boston College and a master's in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Michigan. He is a former lecturer at the University of Illinois, Chicago and currently serves on the board of Foresight Design, a nonprofit that provides education and community building for sustainable transformation in the Midwest.

Deborah Spence-Cummings

Jamie Ponce

As Director of Strategic Partnerships with the City Tech Collaborative, Jamie works to drive breakthrough solutions to critical city challenges using technology, data analytics, and collaboration. He previously served as Director of Innovation with the Environmental Law & Policy Center, a public interest and environmental advocacy group focused on clean energy, transportation, air, and water throughout the US Midwest. From 2012-16, Jamie was the Chicago Director of Energy and Climate Innovation with the C40 Cities Climate Leadership Group, where he led initiatives on energy efficiency, sustainable development, food, and climate in the office of Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel and across a network of global megacities. Prior to these roles, Jamie spent 10 years with global management consulting firm A.T. Kearney, specializing in corporate strategy, economic development, and resource efficiency. These efforts - including work with the Rocky Mountain Institute, Africare, the Environmental Defense Fund, and the Packard Foundation - address some of the planet's most pressing challenges through solutions that span industries, sectors, and ideologies. Jamie advises several Chicago-area sustainability initiatives and serves as vice-chair of the board of directors at FamilyFarmed, a nonprofit organization and startup accelerator committed to the production, marketing, and distribution of locally-grown and responsibly-produced food. Jamie holds a bachelor's degree from Indiana University, a Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, and an MBA from Harvard Business School.

Jeremy M. Goldberg

Jeremy M. Goldberg most recently joined Microsoft's World Public Sector group where he focuses on digital government and critical infrastructure. Prior to this, Jeremy was the Interim Chief Information Officer for New York State and the Deputy Secretary for General Government, Technology and Innovation under Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. He previously served as Director of Civic Innovation Partnerships in the San Francisco Mayor's Office of Civic Innovation, where he led Startup in Residence, a 16-week program that partners government departments with startups to develop products and services in San Francisco and three partner cities in the Bay Area and five global cities. Prior to San Francisco he served as Deputy Chief of Staff for Civic Innovation in the San Jose Mayor's office and served as a consultant to the White House Strong Cities Strong Communities (SC2) Local Resource Network programs in New Orleans. Prior to his work in local government, in 2003, he founded the Global Youth Partnership for Africa, which supported community development through sports and microfinance projects in post-conflict regions of East Africa. He earned a B.A. in government from the University of Texas at Austin and a master's degree in public affairs from the University of San Francisco. He and his family live in Brooklyn, NY.

Meera Raja

Meera Raja manages solution design and program development at City Tech Collaborative. In this role, Meera works as a member of the City Solutions team to design and execute new programs and services. Meera also leads City Tech's 1,600+ member Civic User Testing Group (CUTgroup) in Chicago and coordinates expansion of the CUTgroup model to additional cities across North America. Prior to joining the City Tech team, Meera was the Associate Director of Research Innovation at University of Chicago, where she developed strategies to advance nascent and complex research. Meera was previously a consultant for ZS Associates, working on data-driven solutions for the pharmaceutical space. Meera completed her Ph.D. and Postdoc in Chemistry from Northwestern University and received her undergraduate degree in the same field from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign.

Samir Mayekar

Samir Mayekar is the Deputy Mayor for Economic and Neighborhood Development for the City of Chicago. He is the Co-Founder and Chairman of NanoGraf Corporation, a global manufacturer of advanced materials for the lithium-ion battery industry. Prior to NanoGraf, Samir worked with the business development team at Boeing Defense Systems in Arlington, Virginia and as an investment banker at Credit Suisse in Chicago. He previously served in the Obama Administration at the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the White House. Samir started his career as a management consultant in Chicago with Marakon Associates focusing on clients in the industrials sector. Samir holds a B.A. from Northwestern University (summa cum laude) and an M.B.A. with distinction from the Kellogg School of Management, where he was a Paul and Daisy Soros Fellow. He is a guest lecturer on energy and entrepreneurship at Northwestern University.

Steve Koch - Chairman

Koch spent 27 years at Credit Suisse, living and working in Chicago since 1986. During his tenure at CS, he held a number of senior leadership roles in the Mergers and Acquisitions and the Investment Banking Department. In his distinguished career, Steve has advised on landmark transactions across a broad range of industries that together comprise more than $1 trillion worth of transactions. Koch has also long had a deep interest in service to the larger community. Among other community involvement, he serves as Chairman of the Board of both the Sinai Health System of Chicago and the Greater Chicago Food Depository; Co-Chairman of the Green Ribbon Committee on Sustainability and Climate Change of Chicago; and as a life trustee of the Francis Parker School. He helped develop and teaches in the Director's Consortium, a seminar sponsored by Dartmouth, the University of Chicago and Stanford Business Schools that trains corporate directors and serves as a Presidential appointee to the Independent Advisory Panel of the Recovery Accountability and Transparency Board. He joined the City of Chicago at Deputy Mayor in the Fall of 2012 and served in that role for five years. In that role, Koch played a key role in rebuilding Chicago's finances and boosting its post-recession economy. He quarter-backed the city's enormous success pulling in corporate headquarters and adding jobs and led plans for the city to spend billions revitalizing its infrastructure, particularly the CTA.
