WEDGEWOOD CONSTRUCTION - Key Persons
Andrew Friend has worked for thirty-five years with the World Bank and United Nations in agricultural and veterinary projects in Africa and the Balkans. He has recently retrained in health and safety (SMSTS qualification level) to join the Wedgewood Groundworks team to assist in the site supervision of health and safety for our staff. Interests include farming, shooting, football and rugby, and looking after his eight grandchildren. He also enjoys working part time with the charities - Send a Cow, Amigos Uganda and the North Devon Hospice Trust.
Charlie grew up on a farm in Oxfordshire before attending The Royal Agricultural College to complete a degree in Rural Land Management. After 10 years within the rural and property sector Charlie finally managed to get back to sitting on machines. Combining his experience of planning, sales and farm machinery, Charlie worked within the steel framed construction industry prior to setting up Wedgewood Construction with Will and Ian. In addition to the Construction work, Charlie also manages Wedgewood Groundworks jobs when needed. Charlie is married to Becks and they have two young boys who keep him busy but he does try to sneak off on his motorbike or to go shooting when possible.
Ian is our setting out engineer and land surveyor. With 20 years' experience, he makes sure everything is set out on site in the correct positon. He enjoys using the latest equipment and technology. Ian's role has just started to change due to Wedgewood investing in machine control and he is now responsible for producing the 3D models to upload to the machines.
Ian's interests are Mountain Biking, spending time with his family and cooking.
Ian Friend is a chartered surveyor with over 8 years of experience in the construction industry, having worked for Strutt and Parker and Savills as a specialist development surveyor.
Ian hails from Malawi, Africa where he grew up and is a qualified safari guide, working in the South Luangwa national park for over 4 years together with setting up a successful borehole drilling company with his wife. Now with Wedgewood, Ian helps out with project and contract management alongside Will and Charlie. Ian is married to Lucy and they have two children, who take up most of his spare time!
Sharon worked alongside Will at Wedgewood Buildings prior to the Groundworks business starting. Once Wedgewood Groundworks was formed she took on the daily running of the office. Throughout the years the company has grown substantially, now including Wedgewood Construction, with Sharon focusing on the financial side of the business. Sharon has a keen interest in horses and the countryside. When not at work Sharon spends most of her spare time with her husband Stuart and two children Jack and Oliver.
Will has a background in agricultural engineering having studied at Aberystwyth University. He has developed the Wedgewood Groundworks business over the last 12 years through his enthusiasm and understanding of heavy plant and machinery. He has a keen interest in machinery innovation which has resulted in the diversity of the business. Williams interests outside of work are hockey, cars and spending time with his family, Rhiann, Winnie, Percy and Ellis.
