Alex has worked at Sandy Brown as an acoustic consultant since 2007. Since joining the company, he has worked on diverse array of projects including office buildings, mixed use residential/retail developments, educational establishments and hotels. He has experience in acoustic measurements (both noise and vibration), architectural acoustics, building services noise and 3D computer modelling of both external environmental noise sources and room acoustics. Alex is also involved in the organisation and maintenance of the practice's acoustic measurement equipment.
Andrew has been working as an acoustic consultant since 2005, following completion of his MEng degree at the University of Southampton. He worked at RBA Acoustics and SKM Enviros before joining Sandy Brown in 2011. Prior to joining Sandy Brown, Andrew was involved in architectural and building acoustics projects as well as environmental acoustic assessments for commercial, residential, educational, infrastructure and industrial schemes. Since joining Sandy Brown he has worked on a large range of architectural, environmental and building services projects, specialising in advice relating to residential and commercial schemes.
Anthony has worked since 2006 as an acoustic consultant specialising in building acoustics. He has been with Sandy Brown Associates since 2015, joining the expanding Birmingham office as a senior engineer and becoming an Associate in 2019. Anthony has worked on a range of sectors including healthcare, education, commercial, residential, arts and renewable energy. His areas of expertise include architectural acoustics and environmental acoustics.
Bob has been employed in acoustics since graduating in 1999. Before joining Sandy Brown in 2001 he was employed by Avalon Communications where he was involved with the design of Electroacoustic systems. Since joining Sandy Brown he has had extensive experience in building acoustics, in particular architectural acoustics and building services noise control. Bob became an associate at Sandy Brown in 2005. In 2007 Bob left the UK to travel in Africa, Australasia and South East Asia. During this time he worked for Wilkinson Murray Associates Pty Ltd in Sydney as a Senior Engineer. In 2009 Bob returned to the Sandy Brown London office as an associate. In 2015 he relocated to establish and lead our Birmingham office. He was promoted to Associate Partner in 2017 and became a Director in 2021.
Craig started his career as an acoustic engineer in the defence industry in 1999, and joined Sandy Brown in 2004. He has been responsible for the acoustic design of a wide range of large scale architectural, environmental and building services acoustics projects in sectors including the arts, commercial, leisure, residential, education and transport. He has advised on the acoustic design of various projects in the Middle East and Far East, as well as across the UK. Craig is a committee member of the Institute of Acoustics Scottish branch.
Daniel joined Sandy Brown after completing his Masters degree in 2007. During his career, he has worked on projects in the UK and internationally over a range of sectors in relation to architectural acoustics, building services noise and vibration, planning and environmental impact assessment. Daniel has provided acoustic advice on a number of complex and high-profile architectural acoustics projects including music performance and events spaces, residential and hotel, office developments and educational buildings from primary schools through to universities.
Through his experiences at Sandy Brown Associates, Edward's skills are well versed in architectural acoustics, vibration isolation, building services noise control and environmental noise. Since joining Sandy Brown, Edward has worked on a variety of buildings in different sectors providing input at all stages of design and construction from concept to commissioning. This experience has enabled him to deliver advice with confidence on the subjective implications of design proposals in all forms of communication.
Gordon studied at the University of Salford gaining a first class honours degree in Acoustics. He is a Member of the Institute of Acoustics. Gordon has been working in Acoustics since 2005, at Sandy Brown and Buro Happold. He has successfully delivered acoustic design advice on a large number of projects including Rockvilla for The National Theatre of Scotland and the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama. Gordon is currently responsible for the day-to-day management and delivery of advice for a number of projects including the High School of Dundee, McEwan Hall and West Yorkshire Playhouse.
James has worked as an acoustic consultant since 2007. He has gained experience working on a range of architectural, building services and environmental acoustics projects. While at Sandy Brown, James has advised on the acoustic design of an extensive portfolio encompassing the whole spectrum of building types - from offices, hotels and dwellings, to theatres and studios.
Jason has provided acoustics and noise control advice on a wide range of projects starting in America in 1991 and the UK in 2005. These projects include Fogg Art Museum at Harvard University, Evelyn Grace Academy in Lambeth and the UK Supreme Court. He brings a wealth of consultation and design experience with particular skill in mechanical systems noise control. Jason is a member of the ASHRAE Technical Committee 2.6 on Noise and Vibration and also the US Technical Advisory Group to ISO Technical Committee 205 (Building environment design).

Mark joined Sandy Brown in 1999 after working in building acoustic research for 6 years. He has advised on the design of a wide variety of buildings including many luxury hotels and specialist facilities with high acoustic performance standards. These include The Studios at the BBC's Media City and the Dubai Opera House.
For his PhD Mark developed new techniques in computer modelling of room acoustics for use in the design of concert halls, studios and theatres. He has also guest lectured in acoustics at The University of Lincoln and University of Salford.
Matthew is very knowledgeable in a range of architectural, building services and environmental acoustics projects. His research focused on the prediction of sound and vibration in buildings from transient structure-borne sources, as well as speech privacy and speech security. While at Sandy Brown Associates, Matthew has advised on the design of a variety of projects and been responsible for development of in-house calculation tools. Example projects include Opera House, Downtown Dubai which involved the design of a multi-purpose auditorium and the New Adelphi Building, University of Salford.
Philip has worked as an acoustic consultant since 2006, gaining experience within the field of architectural and building acoustics in UK and New Zealand. Philip has worked on projects that cover a range of building types including residential, leisure and entertainment, commercial, education, retail, health care and government. His work to date has provided him with an appreciation and understanding of common building practices, which allows him to take holistic views on the acoustic design.
"Having previously worked in Australia, Hong Kong and New York, Richard initially joined Sandy Brown in 1993. Since then, Richard has worked on a vast array of prestigious developments, taking a lead role in specifying their acoustic design. These include the New Marlowe Theatre in Canterbury, the design of Edinburgh International Conference Centre and The Hospital professional recording studios.
Among Richard's international experience are The Avenues Mall in Kuwait, Dubai convention centre and the headquarters for JTI in Geneva and Moscow."
Robert studied Audio Technology at the University of Salford before completing a PhD in spatial sound quality engineering with the Institute of Sound Recording (University of Surrey), working alongside researchers from the BBC and Bang & Olufsen. Following this he joined London South Bank University as part of a research team investigating acoustic conditions in secondary school classrooms and their impact on a pupil's ability to learn.
He joined Sandy Brown in 2013 as an engineer and becoming an Associate in 2022. He has provided acoustic design advice for a wide variety of projects within the residential and commercial sectors. Example projects include: Faircharm Creative Quarter; The Ritz; One Nine Elms; City Hall, London; The Bower; Canada Water; Northern Trust; Silvertown; Chelsea Barracks.
After joining Sandy Brown in 1991, Stephen became a Partner in 2000. He has taken the lead on over 1000 projects world-wide, including the 2012 Olympic Village, The Royal Academy of Music, Riverside Studios and the Royal Albert Hall. He has also lectured in acoustics at the South Bank University and acted as an examiner for the Institute of Acoustics. As well as his extensive experience in acoustics, Stephen's background in building services engineering affords him a unique and valuable combination of skills.
Steven joined Sandy Brown Associates in 2010 and has since been involved in a wide range of projects including office buildings, educational establishments, retail and residential developments. Steven's main areas of expertise are office fit-out design, plant noise assessments, vibration assessments, building acoustics measurements and environmental and architectural acoustic modelling. Steven has provided acoustic advice on a number of high-profile commercial developments.
Valerie has worked as an acoustic engineer since 2004, gaining experience in both architectural and environmental disciplines. Valerie has significant experience of high-end residential, mixed use, commercial and office development. She has also worked widely within the environmental construction sectors and has specialist knowledge of aviation noise within the built environment. Valerie is also an Examiner for the Association of Noise Consultants (ANC) pre-completion testing scheme (PCT) and is vice-chair of the ANC membership steering group committee.
