Upon graduating, Dr. Chiam returned to Vancouver, British Columbia to practice in primary care optometry. He joined Dr. Joseph King at King LASIK in Burnaby providing pre and post-operative laser vision correction care. He also worked for Sears Optical providing complete eye care including contact lens fitting and dispensing glasses. He was pleased to join Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser in 2017 to continue primary care as well as medical optometry.

Dr. Payne obtained his doctorate degree and completed his ophthalmology residency from the University of Montreal School of Medicine. Prior to starting residency, he attended New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Centre to further his ophthalmology training.
Dr. Payne has built a successful career in general ophthalmology, cataract and refractive surgery, and oculoplastics. He began his career in Quebec where he owned and operated a private surgical facility for 14 years. Every summer, he would also travel to northern Quebec to provide medical attention to a severely under-serviced region. In 2004, he relocated to Florida to work at the Mullis Eye Institute, a private surgical facility, where he performed cataract surgery, eyelid procedures, and laser vision correction. Dr. Payne was pleased to return to Canada in 2017 and join the team at Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser.
Dr. Gabriel Chu is a native of Edmonton, Alberta. He received his medical degree from the University of Alberta, going on to complete his surgical training at the University of Western Ontario. There, he received Fellow status with the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (FRCSC). He is a faculty member at the University of British Columbia.
It is one of Dr. Chu's priorities to stay up-to-date in his field, exploring all advances in technique and technology. He is always looking for ways to enhance his patients' care. Dr. Chu says that his mission is to offer each and every patient the best in eye care to achieve the best vision possible.
Dr. Chu spends most of his spare time with his wife, his daughter Aubree, his son Ashton and their dog, Milo. Together, they run, hike, and bike frequently. Dr. Chu also enjoys reading and photography. He is passionate about staying physically fit and trying new things. He had laser surgery himself in December 2015 with Dr. Joseph King.

Dr. Joseph King graduated from the University Of British Columbia School Of Medicine in Vancouver. Dr. King completed his ophthalmology residency training at Case Western Reserve, St. Luke's Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio where he served as Chief Resident in his final year. Following his ophthalmology residency, he went on to a fellowship in laser vision correction at the University of South Florida Eye Institute. Dr. King was on staff at LASIK Vision Institute in Bellevue, Washington, LASIK MD, and Restore Vision Centers in British Columbia and Alberta.
In 2013, Dr. King along with Dr. Gabriel Chu opened Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser Centre, a comprehensive ophthalmology and surgical facility. Dr. King has a diverse general ophthalmology practice including, but not limited to, patients with glaucoma, diabetes, and cataracts. He has extensive experience performing small incision cataract surgery with topical anesthesia and is also a leader in the field of laser vision correction. He is committed to having the best and safest technology available here at Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser.
Dr. Kulvir Dhaliwal was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta and has been practicing in the Fraser Valley since 2011. In his spare time, Kulvir enjoys spending time with his wife and three children and also taking time for an occasional round of golf.
Dr. Dhaliwal graduated from the University of Waterloo School of Optometry in Waterloo, Ontario. During his time in Waterloo, he was the acting President of the Canadian Association of Optometry Students. Some of his duties included publishing a yearly student handbook, along with organizing an annual interview day, matching graduating students with practicing optometrists from all across Canada. He also participated in an externship in Orlando, Florida in a multi-doctor primary care optometry office.
Upon graduating, Dr. Dhaliwal returned to his hometown in Edmonton to practice, where he partnered in two comprehensive eye care clinics. Both of these clinics provided complete eye care including contact lens fitting and dispensing glasses. In 2011, Dr. Dhaliwal and his family decided to relocate to the Fraser Valley where his wife's family resides, to join Dr. Gabriel Chu's practice in Abbotsford and in November 2013, he joined Fraser Valley Cataract and Laser.
