Amanda Bennett

Specialist in soil health and plant-soil-microbial interactions, including soil-borne pathogens and beneficial soil organisms. Amanda leads the Soil Biology and Soil Health Partnership, a five-year cross-sector programme of work funded by AHDB in collaboration with the British Beet Research Organisation. Prior to joining AHDB in 2011 she was a postdoctoral researcher and has a background in soil-borne disease management, biological control of soil-borne pathogens, and microbial ecology.

Amandeep Kaur Purewal

Amandeep is a Senior Economist and her work includes understanding and communicating the potential impact of domestic agricultural policy and trade deals on UK agriculture. She has carried out detailed analysis on the economic impact of the Sustainable Farming Incentive on farm businesses in 2022 and had lead work on the UK - New Zealand free trade agreement and opportunities for UK agri - food exports. Prior to her current role, Amandeep was part of the Market Specialists team at AHDB, analysing the global and domestic cereals and oilseeds markets. Amandeep has also worked at LMC International where she focused on the vegetable oils and bio-based chemicals markets. Amandeep has an MSci and PhD in Chemistry from University College London.

Amy Catling

Amy joined AHDB in 2022 to manage the Farm Excellence programme for Cereal & Oilseeds in the East Anglia region. After graduating from Harper Adams in 2008 with a degree in agriculture, Amy provided agronomy and agronomy technical support for 14 years (Frontier) and achieved a BASIS Diploma in Agronomy and FACTS qualification. She lives on the family farm in Norfolk.

Amy Hughes

Amy Hughes grew up on a suckler and sheep farm in North Yorkshire. She is a vet nurse by trade and has a strong background in cattle reproduction and breeding, having worked as a cattle Embryo Transfer technician in Gloucestershire. She has a strong knowledge of beef, sheep and dairy systems and is currently studying for an MSc at Harper Adams in Agricultural Science and Production Systems. Amy runs our National discussion groups including the Progressive Beef & Sheep Groups.

Ana Reynolds

Ana leads AHDB's national knowledge exchange team for Cereals & Oilseeds. Her team's work is pivotal in developing and implementing strategies to disseminate agricultural research, best practices, and market insights between farmers and stakeholders. She is a new entrant to a mixed family farm in Northamptonshire, member of the BASE-UK committee and a Nature Friendly Farming Network Farming Champion. Ana is also studying towards a BASIS Diploma in Agronomy.

Andrew Palmer

Andrew was brought up on a mixed family farm and studied agriculture at Bishop Burton College. This included a specialist course in pig unit management, which sowed the seed for his career in the pig industry. After college, Andrew pursued a career within the industry, covering all aspects of pig production. Starting as a stockperson, he progressed to unit manager and then to a fieldsperson's role, looking after several units including a nucleus breeding unit. During this time, Andrew also participated in our Professional Managers Development Scheme (PMDS), which changed the way he built and managed teams on pig units. Having a strong understanding of the technical side of the pig industry, along with first-hand experience of how training can progress and develop stockpeople, it seemed a natural progression for him to become a knowledge exchange manager at AHDB. He joined us in 2014, covering the east of England. Andrew enjoys working in an industry that is constantly looking for new and innovative technologies and practices to drive more efficient and profitable pig businesses. He is glad to use his industry experience, along with the training he has completed, to help producers become more efficient and productive.

Angela Christison

Angela has experience in the dairy, beef and pork livestock sectors. She has lived and worked internationally and spent 17 years with Genus PLC. In 2002 she was appointed as their Global Business Development Director based in Wisconsin USA and was instrumental in the Genus purchase of the Pig Improvement Company in 2005. Following her career with Genus, Angela set up her own training business and has designed and delivered hundreds of training programmes over the past seven years for both the public and private sector. Angela is passionate about the UK agricultural industry and optimising its strength as we move forward in challenging times.

Annabel Twinberrow

Becky Smith

Becky is an analyst in the Livestock Market Specialists team. She provides levy payers and stakeholders with evidence-based market insight on production, prices, trade and consumer demand. She joined AHDB in September 2023 as a Trainee Analyst in September 2023 before progressing to her current role at the beginning of 2024 Becky has previous experience in agricultural policy, working as an assistant advisor at the NFU. She holds a First Class degree in Bioveterinary Science from Harper Adams University during which she completed a placement year at Genus Breeding.

Caroline Burniston

Caroline has over 30 years' experience working in both public and private sector organisations in Senior Business Administration roles and started working at AHDB in May 2018. Caroline holds a degree in Business Management from Coventry University and is passionate about building relationships internally and externally and working collaboratively to achieve results. Caroline has a particular interest in Marketing, PR and Education along with a specialised interest in Event Management holding the initiative to recognise business opportunities. Caroline leads the Administration Team for the Economics and Analysis department and is committed to enabling and empowering the team to deliver their best outcomes. Caroline is also Personal Assistant to the Economics and Analysis Director.

Carrie McDermid - CMO

Carrie as Senior National Account Manager manages multiple retail accounts building strategic relationships with industry partners. She facilitates the delivery of AHDB insight and technical knowledge to key accounts and drives collaboration on marketing and agricultural initiatives. Prior to joining AHDB's marketing department, Carrie worked for a number of FMCG and retail companies including Noble Foods, Boots and Reckitt Benckiser.

Catherine Harries

Along with Rachel McGauley, Catherine leads the work at AHDB concerning diseases in cereals and oilseeds. Projects that she oversees include the Recommended Lists' disease ratings, fungicide performance curves and UKCPVS. Catherine has a background in crop trials along with master's degrees in both agronomy and management and leadership. She is passionate about improving global food security.

Charlotte Evans

Charlotte joined AHDB in 2022, having worked for both AHDB and BPEX (the predecessor of AHDB Pork) earlier in her career. She has a broad knowledge of the pig industry and its stakeholders, as well as extensive experience in leading and delivering collaborative programmes in the pork sector. She gained a PhD in 2009 specialising in infectious diseases in pigs, which was funded by BPEX. She worked on a 1,000-sow pig farm before joining BPEX, where she worked for eight years. Since then, she has focused on the practical application of nutritional knowledge with ForFarmers and, latterly, DSM.

Charlotte Forkes-Rees

Charlotte joined AHDB in July 2022 on the Analyst Development Scheme. She moved to the Retail and Consumer Insight team as an analyst in April 2023, and is also part of the team involved in our Carbon Markets work. Charlotte's role is to analyse retail and foodservice trends as well as understand consumer sentiment towards red meat and dairy products, farming, and the wider agricultural industry. With this information, she produces articles, updates dashboards, helps commission research projects, supports wider teams within the organisation with insight, and speaks with both farmers and stakeholders to help promote the red meat and dairy industries. Prior to starting at AHDB, Charlotte spent 5 years working for Mole Valley Farmers. During this time, she won multiple national awards as an R-SQP, winning National SQP of the Year in 2021. Charlotte has a BSc in Bioveterinary Science, and a PGCert in Equestrian Performance. Outside of work, Charlotte enjoys open water swimming and spending time with her dogs, which she shows successfully.

Colin has a particular interest in cross sectoral integration to build future proof, resilient livestock systems.

David joined AHDB in 2017 after working as a grain trader and previously working for HGCA the cereals levy board prior to AHDB being formed. David's role at AHDB is to oversee the Economics and Analysis department. This is a team of over 50 staff who are looking at the full range of issues that affect farm businesses. His department is delving into the economics of farm efficiency and cost of production, to commodity market analysis and macro trends in policy and retail/consumer markets. David is part of the senior team at AHDB who actively leads the business in implementing a continuous improvement mindset to constantly create more value for levy payers.
