IFFA

IFFA was set up to represent family forest-owners at international level, such as global conventions, meetings of United Nations (UN) bodies etc. Policy developments in such organisations influences national legislation and as 20% of forests worldwide are privately-owned this require family forest representation and recognition at the global fora. Family forests are mostly managed for firewood, timber, fruit, and forest products, sometimes at subsistence level. IFFA is the advocate of privately-owned and -managed forests and exists to give family forestry a voice in international negotiations, working groups, projects and initiatives concerning forests, forest management, biodiversity in wooded land, landscape management, use of wood etc... IFFA as an independent civil society organization was founded in 2002 and incorporated in Washington DC in 2006 due to the fact that an increasing number of policy issues affect family forestry on international level.
