Alice Campbell

Alice graduated in 2017 from Glasgow but before that she completed an Equine Sports Science degree at Hartpury College. After graduating Alice worked as an equine and small animal vet on the New Forest before returning to Scotland to work purely as an Equine Vet. Alice loves being out and about on the road meeting clients and their horses. Her main area of interest is dentistry and she hopes to do some further qualifications in Equine Dentistry in the future. In her spare time Alice is kept busy by her dogs, highland pony, chickens and rescue guinea pigs!

Amie McGarva

Amie graduated from Glasgow University in 2022, during her time as a student Amie completed placements at, Rainbow Equine Hospital in North Yorkshire, a remote mixed practice on the Isle of Tiree and lots of time here at the Weipers Centre. After graduating she spent the summer as a locum before joining us as a Junior Assistant Clinician, she has special interests in fold medicine and emergency and critical care cases. Outside of work she enjoys running, climbing hills and other outdoor activities with her corgi, Harris.

Dr Nicholas Bellitto

DVM(Hons) MRCVS Equine Surgeon Nicholas is a graduate of the University of Milan, Italy, and has spent the last few years pursuing further advanced training towards becoming an equine surgery specialist. During this journey Nicholas has spent time training at the University of Vienna, Oklahoma State University and latterly at Pool House Equine Clinic in Staffordshire, and of course with us at the University of Glasgow's Weipers Equine Centre. During his residency Nicholas has also spent time doing externships at specialist equine hospitals in Ireland, Belgium and the USA, to gain further experience from leading experts in equine surgery. Nicholas enjoys all aspects of equine surgery and lameness and has a particular interest in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgeries. He is also a research active member of staff with projects related to the field of advanced lameness investigation, where he has presented his work at various national and international conferences. Nicholas continues this research and is still studying towards his Masters of Veterinary Medicine in his off-clinic time

Joel Hotchkiss

Joel graduated from the University of Liverpool in 1994 and, after working briefly in mixed practice, spent three years employed in an equine practice in Lancashire. In 1999 he undertook a two-year residency, and then a PhD in respiratory epidemiology at Glasgow Vet School. Joel returned to work at the equine practice in Lancashire for two years before becoming a Lecturer in Equine Practice at the University of Edinburgh; this was followed by a post-doctoral epidemiological research position. In 2013 Joel joined the team at Glasgow Equine Hospital with a focus on equine internal medicine and in particular respiratory medicine. In 2016 he became an RCVS Advanced Practitioner in Equine Internal Medicine. Research interests include epidemiology and veterinary education. He has had a role in developing and delivering the new BVMS curriculum and is the module leader for the core equine rotation.

Katie Currie

Job Titles:
  • Practice Manager
Having owned and worked with horses her whole life, Katie started working at the hospital as a groom in 2006 with a background in stud work and eventers. After a couple of years away exploring other opportunities, she has been back since 2018, first in a teaching capacity with our first year students, moving into working with our new First Opinion practice. Katie now manages the day to day running of the practice. In her spare time, she is kept busy with two children, two horses, a Labrador, a cat and some hens.

Katie Offer

Job Titles:
  • Resident in Equine Internal Medicine
Katie graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2016 and joined an equine practice in Derbyshire. From there she completed a medicine internship at Scone Equine Hospital in Australia, and then a medicine Fellowship at Hagyard Equine Medical Institute. She joined the team at Glasgow as an Equine Internal Medicine Resident in 2019. Katie has an interest in all things internal medicine, particularly critical care and neonatology. She is currently undertaking a Masters in Veterinary Medicine, with research looking at the treatment of Equine Sarcoids. She has recently had a paper published on this subject. Outside of work, she enjoys eventing (when she is not injured!), canicross and agility with her 2 border collies, and exploring Scotland.

Kirsty Gallacher

Kirsty graduated from the University of Glasgow in 2006 and then ventured to Australia to do an equine internship at Goulburn Valley Equine Hospital. She later completed a Theriogenology residency at Cornell University in the USA during 2012, with a focus on equine reproduction and passed exams to become a Diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists. She has also worked in general equine practice in both Australia and the UK. Her last role was working at the University of Adelaide, Equine Health and Performance Centre as a lecturer and clinician. Kirsty is also doing a part-time PhD on the topic of equine uterine health. She is kept busy in her spare time with two young daughters, a springer spaniel called Henley and a Palomino gelding named Parker.

Lenka Veselovska

Job Titles:

Lenka started working at the University of Glasgow in 2008. Prior to joining Glasgow Equine Hospital, Lenka worked in the hospitality industry as a part of a reception team, gaining valuable customer service experience. In her spare time, Lenka enjoys long walks in the countryside, reading a good book, the occasional Marvel movie and socializing with friends.

Lesley Burns

Job Titles:

Lesley studied Equine Business Management at Oatridge College gaining her B.H.S.I.I. And being awarded the R.H.A.S.S. Medal and Scottish student of the year for land-based industries. Lesley has a wide experience in the equine industry having worked in a variety of settings from riding school, 4* event horses, RIHS/HOYS show horses to stud and A.I. Work. Lesley competed in BD at medium level and BS at 1.15/1.20 while she no longer competes herself, she is still hands on with the management and training of her family's event horses.

Lyndsay Hutchinson

Lyndsay joined Glasgow Equine Hospital in January 2018 as part of the reception and administration team, having previously worked for the NHS. Outside of work, Lyndsay enjoys spending time with her two dogs and cooking up a storm in the kitchen.

Nicholas Graham

MA VetMB CertAVP(Equine Med) MRCVS Nick graduated from University of Cambridge in 2003 and after a short period working in mixed practice specialised in equine work. Nick has an RCVS certificate in Advanced Veterinary Practice (Equine Medicine) with the University of Liverpool and is an RCVS recognised Advanced Veterinary Practitioner in Equine Medicine. His professional interests include general practice, particularly medicine.

Patrick J Pollock

Professor of Veterinary Surgery and Remote and Rural Medicine European and RCVS Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery We are delighted to announce that Patrick Pollock re-joins the clinical team at the Glasgow Equine Hospital and Practice, School of Biodiversity, One Health and Veterinary Medicine, University of Glasgow. Patrick graduated from the University of Glasgow in 1998 and following time in mixed general practice undertook advanced surgical training at University College Dublin in Ireland where he became a Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons and a Recognised Specialist in Equine Surgery. Patrick has worked in private and academic practice across Europe and previously worked here at the Weipers Centre for 10 years, before moving to the Dick Vet in Edinburgh where he served as Director of the Equine Hospital and Practice, developing the service to its most successful level in recent times. Patrick has experience in all types of equine and large animal surgery and is particularly interested in wounds, trauma and investigating poor performance. While working in Glasgow previously, Patrick was part of the team that validated the method for overground endoscopy. Working with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, the British Animal Rescue and Trauma Association and other first responders, Patrick has been instrumental in developing initiatives for animal rescue and is undertaking advanced training in Disaster Medicine and Management. Patrick has an interest in working horses, donkeys and mules and set up training for vets in low and middle income countries.

Prof. David Sutton

David Sutton has worked in a variety of settings since graduating from Cambridge University Veterinary School in 1995. He was fortunate enough to start work in North Yorkshire, UK with the ‘James Herriot' practice, and from that enjoyable grounding in mixed practice continued to specialise progressively in equine internal medicine. David has worked as both a private equine practitioner in Scotland, and as a Senior University Clinician at the Universities of Pretoria and Glasgow. He has therefore divided his career between private practice and University referral practice, and his CPD presentations reflect this clinical experience gained in both environments. During his PhD David developed and validated stable isotope tests for the non-invasive quantification of equine gastrointestinal transit, and developed a fascination for the investigation and treatment of equine colic. Regional differences in the manifestations and aetiology of equine colic syndromes remain a key interest. David gained a Diploma of the European College of Equine Internal Medicine in 2007 and has been a Senior Clinician in Equine Medicine at Glasgow University for the last five years.

Richard Reardon

Richard Reardon BVetMed(hons) MVM PhD CertES(orth) DipECVS(LA) DipEVDC(EQ) MRCVS Richard has European diplomas in equine dentistry (EVDC) and surgery (ECVS) and a PhD in epidemiology from the University of Glasgow; he has published over 50 articles in these areas. He worked for nearly 10 years at the University of Edinburgh as a surgeon where he jointly ran the soft tissue surgery and dental services with Professor Paddy Dixon for many years. Richard has much experience in advanced equine dentistry and sinus surgery, which he has lectured on internationally. Richard has a keen interest in developing practical techniques to improve advanced dentistry (particularly extractions) and in helping to educate veterinarians interested in advanced dentistry. Richard is based in Scotland and provides advanced dental services to practices there and in North England.

Tracy McArthur

Tracy began working with horses professionally when she was 16 for JJ O'Neill's National Hunt yard. During this time, Tracy was responsible for riding out and swimming horses. Tracy then moved back to Glasgow and taught at various riding schools for 15 years before working at Glasgow Equine Hospital. Tracy currently does not have her own horse, but this allows her to care for all the patients at Glasgow Equine Hospital as if they were her own. Tracy has recently become interested in mane and tail reconstruction for showing.

Victoria Gregory

Job Titles:
  • Veterinary Nurse
Victoria works at Glasgow Equine Hospital as a member of the equine hospital nursing team. Within this role Victoria provides nursing care for the inpatients, assists with medical and surgical procedures and helps with the veterinary student's training. She qualified in 2007 after completing her training at Hartpury College, whilst working at Rossdales Equine Hospital, Newmarket. In 2010 she took a sabbatical from Rossdales Equine Hospital, and travelled to Australia to work as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse at Scone Equine Hospital for their foaling season. Victoria gained a Pg Cert in Veterinary Education in 2014 form the Royal Veterinary College, Hertfordshire. In 2015, Victoria started working at the Royal Veterinary College as an equine nurse in their teaching hospital, before relocating to Scotland in 2017. Her main interests are in intensive care nursing of both adults and neonates and teaching. In her spare time, Victoria enjoys hill walking with her springer spaniel Jonty - only 262 Munros to go!

Vikki Scott

BVetMed MSc DipACVIM MRCVS. Equine Internal Medicine Clinician. Vikki graduated from the Royal Veterinary College in 2006 and undertook a neonatal intensive care fellowship at the University of Pennsylvania's New Bolton Center followed by a rotating internship at Rossdales LLP. She remained in Newmarket as a stud vet and also completed a southern hemisphere breeding season before undertaking an equine medicine residency at The Ohio State University. Vikki is an ACVIM diplomate and a RCVS recognised specialist in equine internal medicine. She was the internal medicine clinician at the University of Cambridge (2013-2019) and is currently undertaking a PhD at the University of Glasgow researching gastric disease and the intestinal microbiome alongside part time clinical work.
