Anahita Rahmatian

Anahita Rahmatian (she/her) has a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and is a graduate of the Legal Administrative Assistant Certificate program at Capilano University. Anahita is dedicated to helping others and by joining the Investigations Office, she can give back to her community by building a safe and supportive environment at UBC. In her free time, Anahita enjoys reading novels, playing video games, and learning new languages.

Carly Stanhope

Job Titles:

Carly Stanhope (she/her) is a practicing lawyer who is dedicated to advancing equality through the development of participant-centered legal processes. Carly comes to UBC from private legal practice, where she advised post-secondary institutions on the development and review of policies and processes regarding human rights, bullying and harassment, sexual misconduct and at-risk behaviour, and applied a trauma-informed approach to conducting investigations and preparing witnesses for testimony regarding their experiences of sexualized violence. Carly holds an honours undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice and Public Policy from the University of Guelph and a Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia.

Effie Taylor

Effie Taylor (she/her)has over 10 years of experience both conducting and supporting investigations into sexual harassment, discrimination, respectful workplaces, code of conduct, bullying and harassment and misconduct. She has also conducted workplace reviews in order to address bullying and harassment and ensure a respectful workplace. At the University of British Columbia, Effie worked as part of the Employee Relations team where she provided expert advice to a team of Human Resource professionals as well as facilitating training and workshops on various employment issues. Prior to joining the University of British Columbia in 2018, Effie worked at Air Canada for 18 years where she was appointed as Field Representative to conduct investigations as assigned by the Human Rights and Harassment Office. Effie joined the Investigations Office in October 2021.

Jay Aubrey

Jay Aubrey (they/them) seeks continual growth in their understanding of trauma and identity-related harm. As a lawyer, Jay supported people to assert their rights within the criminal law process. They supported people surviving solitary confinement in Canadian prisons to testify in a constitutional challenge to federal legislation. They worked alongside people experiencing intolerable suffering to protect the constitutional right to medically assisted death. Jay joined UBC as a Human Rights Advisor in 2020. They supported alternative resolution processes between UBC community members. They worked with UBC leaders to create structures and practices that support human rights. Jay joined UBC's Investigations Office in early 2023. Jay graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University in 2013; they also hold an undergraduate and graduate degree in gender studies.

June Carter

June Carter (she/her) is a lawyer with nearly 20 years of private practice and public service experience. She has worked as an investigator for UBC's Investigation Office since 2019, having returned after 8 months at WorkSafeBC as a senior prevention advisor, advising on all matters relating to workplace safety and prevention, including workplace bullying and harassment. Prior to joining UBC, June spent 10 years with the Civilian Review and Complaints Commission for the RCMP, reviewing and investigating public complaints made against RCMP members. June conducted reviews, managed and undertook complex, high-profile and often sensitive investigations related to a broad range of policing functions, including search and seizure, arrest and detention, criminal investigation quality, use of force, and police involved shootings or serious injury incidents. June also worked as a senior policy analyst for Health Canada, where she helped lead the development and analysis of health policies and regulatory proposals. Prior to joining the public service, June spent 6 years in private practice at a small law firm in Ottawa.

Leah Sorge

Leah Sorge (she/her) is a practicing lawyer and is committed to bringing empathy and care to every investigation she conducts. Leah previously worked in private legal practice, where she gained experience in the areas of employment, human rights, and criminal law. She is deeply invested in the UBC community, having obtained her honours undergraduate degree in Psychology from UBC Okanagan and her Juris Doctor from UBC Vancouver.

Michelle Cameron

Job Titles:
  • Associate Director of Investigations
Michelle Cameron (she/her) is a practicing lawyer, with a deep background in anti-oppressive, trauma informed, culturally safe investigative and alternative resolution practices. She is Dakelh, Frog Clan, and a registered member of Ts'il Kaz Koh Nation in Northern BC. Michelle holds bachelor of arts, bachelor of social work, master of social work, and juris doctor degrees. She also holds a certificate in conflict resolution from the JIBC, and is trained in a wide array of resolution approaches such as mediation, negotiation, conflict coaching, restorative justice, circle facilitation, intercultural dispute resolution, and Indigenous peacemaking circles.

Michelle Sue

Michelle (she/her) is a law student at Allard School of Law and also holds a degree in political science from UBC. In her spare time, she enjoys playing tennis, snowboarding in the winter and playing board games with friends.

Natasha Merrick

Natasha Merrick (she/her) is an investigator with 18 years of experience. She has developed a deep understanding of the complexities and nuances involved in investigations. Throughout her career, she has been committed to ongoing learning and professional development, recognizing the importance of staying current on laws and best practices in investigations. Natasha places high value on due process and impartiality, ensuring that parties are treated fairly.

Olivia Oszkiel

I believe in addressing issues and conflicts in the UBC community from a position of neutrality, confidentiality, fairness, and respect. Olivia Oszkiel (she/her) is a practicing lawyer and Chartered Professional in Human Resources candidate. Prior to UBC, Olivia worked at a boutique workplace law firm where she advised and represented both employees and employers with the goal of facilitating the employment relationship. Olivia holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Simon Fraser University and a Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia.

Ravneet Riar

Fair and thorough investigations done with empathy, humility and genuine care can empower UBC community members and reduce harm when they choose to engage with the IO. Ravneet (she/her) is a lawyer and is continuously striving to enhance her practice towards greater transparency, accessibility, trauma- informed approaches, and cultural safety. Ravneet previously worked as a Human Rights Advisor at UBC, where she facilitated informal resolutions and supported UBC leaders and departments to create and uphold human rights-respecting practices, interactions and environments. Prior to joining UBC, she practiced as a lawyer in BC supporting vulnerable migrant workers to assert their legal rights in the context of employment, human rights, and immigration law. Ravneet holds a Masters of Law from UBC's Peter A. Allard School of Law and an honours undergraduate degree in law and arts from the National Law School of India University in Bengaluru, India.

Sania Chaudhry

Sania Chaudhry (she/her) is a practicing lawyer who is dedicated to culturally humble and trauma-informed investigative practices promoting equity, diversity, inclusion, and wellness. Sania comes to UBC from private practice as prior a human rights lawyer, workplace investigator, and respectful workplace training facilitator. She holds a Masters of Law degree from the University of Calgary, where her research focused on developing a decolonial, trauma-informed, and intersectional critical race feminist theory framework incorporating psychological research on unconscious bias in administrative law and decision-making. She also holds a Juris Doctor from the University of British Columbia with a Social Justice Specialization, as well as an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Sociology also from the University of British Columbia. In 2023, Sania was named one of the Top 25 Influential Lawyers by Canadian Lawyer Magazine in the Changemaker category.

Tarn Khare

Tarn Khare (he/him) holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from Simon Fraser University and a Business Analysis Certificate from UBC Sauder School of Business. He is currently pursuing certification in Collaborative Conflict Resolution at the Justice Institute of BC. Tarn began his career at UBC's Quantum Matter Institute in 2012, where he played a key role in securing $66.5 million in CFREF funding and transitioning the institute to a larger research facility. He later managed operations at the Mineral Deposit Research Unit for three years, overseeing finance, human resources, facilities, and industry liaison. In his spare time, Tarn enjoys cooking and spending time with his family.
