Kyosuke grew up in the Chiba prefecture of Japan. In 2015, he obtained an M.D. degree at Tohoku University where he identified a signaling pathway regulating neutrophil inflammation supervised by Prof. Hisanori Horiuchi. After two years of training as a medical doctor at Tohoku University Hospital, he studied LC-MS/MS based metabolomics at RIKEN/Yokohama City University supervised by Prof. Makoto Arita. During this time he identified an essential enzyme and its metabolites for spermatogenesis through metabolomics and physiology, awarding him his Ph.D. degree. In 2020, he was selected as an Astellas Foundation for Research on Metabolic Disorders Fellow (2020-2021) and joined the Matthews Lab. Here, he is investigating the function of uncharacterized enzymes and their electrophilic PTMs. Besides science, Kyosuke loves biking, drinking and eating out.
