John Cummings

Major John Cummings, Department of Corrections, is a career law enforcement professional with 33 years of experience. He began his career with the Martin County Sheriff's Office in 1987 as a Corrections Deputy where he spent two years before transitioning to a Sheriff's Deputy. His career has taken him full circle. Throughout Major Cummings' long-standing career with the Martin County Sheriff's Office, he garnered vast experience serving as Major Crimes Detective, Uniform Road Patrol Sergeant, FBI Task Force Officer, and Special Deputy Marshall for the U.S. Marshals Task Force. In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of Captain of the Criminal Investigations Division where he was in charge of multiple units including the Special Victims Unit, Major Crimes, Warrants, Crime Scene, Evidence, Economic Crimes, and the newly developed Intelligence Unit. In addition, Major Cummings was also in command of the Agency's Tactical Surveillance Team.

Peter Croft

Major Peter Croft came to the Martin County Sheriff's Office after attending the IRSC Law Enforcement Academy Track Program from 2006-2008. He earned an AS degree in Criminal Justice and later earned a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration. Major Croft began his career with the Sheriff's Office as a volunteer in the Reserve Deputy Unit and was later sworn in as a Deputy Sheriff. He was selected for the Tactical Unit and then a Detective in the Special Investigations Section. In 2013, he was chosen for the SWAT Team, where he has held many positions (operator, explosive breacher, assistant squad leader, and team leader). Then he was promoted to Corporal and transferred to the Uniform Patrol Division as a Field Training Officer. Thereafter, he was promoted to the rank of Sergeant. After two years as a Sergeant in the Uniform Patrol Division, he transferred to Professional Standards as an Internal Affairs Sergeant. Subsequently, Major Croft was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant where he was a Watch Commander in the Uniform Patrol Division. In that same year, he was selected to fill a vacant position as a Lieutenant for the Special Operations Division where he would oversee the Aviation, K-9, and Marine Units. In July 2021, he was promoted to the rank of Administrative Captain in the Department of Law Enforcement. Major Peter Croft is a lifelong Martin County resident, attending all local schools (Hobe Sound and Seawind Elementaries, Murray Middle, and South Fork High School). He is married with two children and currently lives in Palm City.

On January 8, 2013, Sheriff William D. Snyder was sworn into office, becoming Martin County's 8th Sheriff. Sheriff Snyder is an independently elected constitutional officer, who is statutorily charged with the responsibility of providing all primary law enforcement services within Martin County.
