A. Paul Lanzillotta

Paul Lanzillotta died on January 30, 2022, with his family around him. Paul lived a fulfilling life making significant contributions to the greater good of Arlington through his life-long voluntary service. Paul's wife of 63 years, Ann Gallagher Lanzillotta, passed away in 2020. He is survived by his children, Mary Katherine Lanzillotta (her husband, Lee Becker), Susan Lanzillotta, and John Lanzillotta (his wife, Stacey Lanzillotta); grandchildren, Morgan and Keegan Lanzillotta; step-grandchildren, Michael Becker (his wife, Rachel Becker) and Bryan Becker (his wife, Lara Berenji); and great step-grandchildren, Lindsey, Emmett, and Milo Becker. Paul, a native of Revere, MA, graduated from Boston College with a BS in Business Administration in 1953. He served in the US Army on active duty from 1953-1955 and in the US Army Reserves until 1961. Paul worked for the United States General Accounting Office traveling the country auditing various government facilities before starting law school. Paul graduated from Georgetown Law with Juris Doctor in 1961 and LL.M. in Taxation in 1964. Paul was admitted to the Virginia Bar in 1962. Ann and Paul married in 1959 and moved to Arlington, Virginia, in 1962, where Ann and Paul created a wonderful, loving home for their family. Paul started and, for almost 35 years, ran the Trust Department for First Virginia Banks, Inc. (formerly BB&T and now Truist) where he served as a mentor to many. Paul joined Manning & Murray in 1996 and retired in 2020. He taught at George Mason University Law School and Marymount University, and lectured at the Georgetown University Law Center. He served as an expert witness in estate and trust administration litigation. Paul was a longtime member of the Trust and Estate sections of the American Bar Association, the Virginia State Bar, and the Arlington Bar Association. Paul led by example serving on the board of Virginia Hospital Center; as a past president and board member of the Community Foundation for Northern Virginia; on the board of Marymount University; as a board member of Capital Caring, and as co-chair of its Planned Giving Committee; as a past president of the Northern Virginia Estate Planning Council; and as a member of the Arlington County Supplemental Retirement System Board. He was an active member of the Arlington Kiwanis Club, President of the Arlington Kiwanis Foundation, and a longtime member of the Catholic Charities Special Gifts Committee. For his generous service, Paul received a Doctor of Humane Letters honorus causa from Marymount University, and the Arlington County Inter-Service Club's Man-of-the-Year Award in 1977. An avid golfer, Paul played with the WAGS at Washington Golf and Country Club in Arlington, VA, and at Cripple Creek in Bethany Beach, DE, where Ann and Paul also made a summer home. They spent over 45 years with friends and family enjoying the sand and sun. Andrew F. Murray

Drew joined MMBB in 2013, after graduating from the George Mason University School of Law. Drew worked in the title insurance industry prior to law school, and later interned with an Arlington land use firm. He is a member of the Trusts and Estates section of the Arlington Bar Association and the Virginia State Bar. Drew currently serves on the Arlington Sports Commission, representing adult softball players. Drew is also an avid runner, and completed the Marine Corps Marathon in 2012. David focuses his practice on estate planning, probate, and trust and estate administration. Before joining Manning, Murray & Barnett, David honed his skills at The Ruddy Law Firm in Fairfax, Virginia, where he worked from 2014 to 2024. With over a decade of experience in estate planning, elder law, and trust administration, David is adept at drafting complex trusts and ancillary documents tailored to the needs of clients in Virginia. His expertise also includes navigating contested guardianship and conservatorship cases as a certified Virginia Guardian ad Litem (GAL). His professional journey is marked by a proven track record of delivering diligent service, building strong client relationships through expertise, empathy, and sensitivity. David is a member of Wealth Counsel and actively participates in the Wills and Trusts and Young Lawyers Sections of the Fairfax Bar Association. David also serves as a presenter for National Business Institute (NBI) continuing legal education (CLE) seminars and regularly appears on The Probate NationĀ® television show, sharing his insights and expertise with a broader audience. Donald O. Manning

Donald Owen Manning, age 78, died suddenly on Thursday, April 20, 2023. Don was a native of Arlington, Virginia, born in 1945 to the late Nan Owen Manning and John Lawrence Manning. He was an alumnus of Washington-Lee High School (Class of 1962), Duke University (Class of 1966), and the University of Virginia Law School (Class of 1969). In 1988, Don co-founded MMBB (then Manning & Murray), where he helped thousands of clients with estate planning and estate administration. He was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 1985.

Michael O. Manning

Michael joined MMB in 2012 and his practice includes estate planning for families, estate planning for individuals, and advising Executors and Trustees on estate and trust administration matters. He provides estate, gift and generation-skipping transfer tax advice and also prepares federal estate and gift tax returns. Michael is a Trustee of the Arlington Community Foundation (ACF) and currently serves on the Governance Committee of the ACF Board of Trustees. Paul W. Barnett

Paul has been in private law practice in Northern Virginia since 1995. Prior to joining MMB, he was a partner in another local law firm. Before entering private practice, Paul served as counsel to a United States Senate Committee. He is an active member of the Elder Law and Trust and Estate sections of the Arlington County Bar Association as well as of the Virginia State Bar. He is also a member of the Virginia Guardianship Association and the Real Estate section of the Virginia State Bar. His community and professional activities include speaking at bar association meetings on estate planning and elder law topics, serving on the board of directors for the Arlington County Bar Association and as an active member of the Arlington Host Lions Club with several terms on the board of directors and as a past president. William G. Murray

Bill has been in private practice in Northern Virginia since 1973. He also serves as Commissioner of Accounts for the 17th Judicial Circuit, a position to which he was appointed by the Arlington County Circuit Court in 1989. In that position he is responsible for overseeing the administration of estates, trusts, conservatorships and guardianships in Arlington and Falls Church. Bill is a recipient of the Arlington Bar Association's Distinguished Service Award, and is a past president of the Arlington Bar Association, a past chair of the Virginia State Bar Ethics Committee, a past member of the Executive Committee of the Virginia State Bar, and the past chair of the Judicial Council of Virginia's Standing Committee on Commissioners of Accounts. His community activities have included serving as chair of the Arlington Sports Commission, and as a board member of Arlington Senior Babe Ruth Baseball and the Arlington Sports Foundation. Bill has also served as President of the Better Sports Club of Arlington and Washington Golf and Country Club. Bill was elected a Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel in 1988, and a Fellow of the Virginia Law Foundation in 1999.
