How a Knob is Born: Slender glass rods are melted in the 2200 degree torch flame and wound onto a stainless steel rod. The hot gather of glass is then rolled onto a brass marver and shaped using heat, gravity and graphite tools. Additional colors and designs can be added using transparent or opaque glass. Once shaped and decorated, the knob goes into an annealing kiln to slowly cool and strengthen. When cooled and cleaned, a brass base or threaded insert is attached with epoxy.
