Daniel A. Howard

David Hyams

Biography Dr. Hyams received his undergraduate degree from Vassar College and his M.D. from Columbia University. Surgical residencies at the University of California San Francisco and George Washington University Medical Center were followed by Surgical Oncology fellowships at the U.S. National Cancer Institute and the City of Hope. Dr. Hyams directed Surgical Oncology at the University of Cincinnati and has served on the faculty of Allegheny University of the Health Sciences in Pittsburgh. A long-time investigator with the NSABP, he was the group's Executive Medical Officer and Director of Medical Affairs. He later became National Director of Surgical Oncology and Clinical Research for Salick Healthcare, a California-based national cancer center network. Dr. Hyams has a clinical focus on breast cancer, melanoma, and soft tissue malignancies. Oncoplastic reconstructive procedures are an important part of his surgical practice. Dr. Hyams is an author, lecturer, and investigator. He serves as advisor and consultant for several molecular diagnostics companies, working to advance individualized biologically-directed care.

Dr. Cary Kaufman

Biography Dr. Cary Kaufman, MD is an internationally renowned breast surgeon with over 42 years of surgical expertise. Dr. Patricia Lynn Clark

Dr. Patricia Lynn Clark joined Ironwood Women's Centers in July 2016. She is a board-certified general surgeon with a passion for treating breast cancer and for using oncoplastic surgery to improve outcomes. Additional plastic surgery training led her to become nationally recognized as a teacher of oncoplastic surgery at national and international conferences. These techniques reduce the need for mastectomy in patients with complex breast disease and they minimize deformity. Dr. Clark's surgical career began in East St Louis, Illinois as a trauma surgeon. While treating gunshot wounds and managing critically ill patients in the ICU, she also utilized her plastic surgery training by performing breast reductions and oncoplastic surgery for her breast patients. She moved on to the Chicago area to further advance her interest in the treatment of breast cancer surgery alongside her general surgery practice that was focused on minimally invasive surgery. She now practices breast surgery full time and is committed to developing comprehensive treatment teams individualized to each patient's unique needs. Biography Dr. Lebovic has committed her career to improving the delivery of women's healthcare, with a special interest in the diagnosis and treatment of patients with breast cancer. MAURÍCIO MAGALHÃES COSTA

Biography From 1985 to 2016, Dr. Costa was a physician at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro - HUCFF. He is currently the Coordinator of the Breast Nucleus of the Americas Center for Integrated Oncology, as well as a collaborating researcher at the Circular Markers Laboratory of the Pathology Department of FCM-UERJ. He currently serves as Board Member of the Medical Center of the Americas Medical City. As the author of 29 full-length articles published in national and international magazines, Dr. Costa has also written the following books, Breast Health (Diagraphic), and Health and Beauty of the Breast. Dr. Costa is the recipient of several awards including the Antonio Franco Montoro Award in 2014, Madame Durocher Award of the National Academy of Medicine in 1997 and 2003, and the Rondon Monograph Award in 1981.

Melvin Silverstein - Founder

Biography Dr. Silverstein is a graduate of Johns Hopkins University and the Albany Medical College where he was elected to AOA. Following his surgical residency at the Boston City Hospital, he completed a three-year fellowship in surgical oncology and served as Assistant Professor of Surgery and Oncology at UCLA School of Medicine, as well as Senior Researcher at the UCLA School of Public Health. Dr. Silverstein founded The Breast Center in Van Nuys, California in 1979 and served as its Medical Director and Senior Surgical Oncologist until 1998. The Van Nuys Breast Center was the first free-standing breast center in the United States and it served as a model for breast center development and operation, having been visited by physicians from all over the United States and from more than 20 foreign countries. Dr. Silverstein served as Professor of Surgery with Tenure at The Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, Director of the Harold E. and Henrietta C. Lee Breast Center at the USC/Norris Cancer Center, Chief of the Breast Service at the Los Angeles County USC Medical Center, Director of the Breast Fellowship Program, and held the Henrietta C. Lee Chair in Breast Cancer Research from 1998-2008. In 2012 he was named the Gross Family Foundation Chair in Oncoplastic Surgery. Dr. Silverstein is the author of more than 400 scientific papers, book chapters, and abstracts. In addition, he has written five books dealing with breast cancer, including the first major textbook on ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) of the breast. He developed the Van Nuys Classification for Ductal Carcinoma in Situ of the Breast as well as the USC Van Nuys Prognostic Index. Both of these tools are used worldwide for DCIS prognosis and treatment. Dr. Silverstein has been an international leader in oncoplastic breast surgery for more than two decades. In April 2010, he published his renowned Oncoplastic Breast Surgery Video. In April 2015, he published Silverstein and Savalia's Advanced Oncoplastic Breast Conservation. Both videos were distributed worldwide at no charge. Dr. Silverstein has spoken throughout the world on breast cancer related subjects and has received numerous honors including the Impact Award for Lifetime Achievement in Breast Cancer from the National Consortium of Breast Centers, the Miami Breast Cancer Conference Lifetime Achievement Award, the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Lynne Cohen Foundation, a lifetime achievement award from the Mexican Senologic Society, and the Pathfinder Award from the American Society of Breast Disease. Dr. Silverstein is a past-president of The American Society of Breast Disease and has been listed in "Best Doctors in America" for many years. In 2010, he was the recipient of Albany Medical College Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumnus Award.
