Mr. Rizzo has served as a member of the Board of Directors of a Public Benefit Corporation and is a founding member of the philanthropic arm of the that Corporation. He was appointed to the Nassau Health Care Corporation Board of Directors by the Governor and was shortly thereafter appointed to Chairman of the Board of Directors in May of 2010. Steve honed his skills as a litigator immediately after law school with the New York City Law Department as an Assistant Corporation Counsel in the Queens Torts Division, where he defended the City in complex tort liability actions including: premises liability claims, Labor Law actions, motor vehicle actions, security claims, false arrest actions, negligent supervision claims, highway design cases, and other general liability matters. He later transitioned to the Corporation Counsel's Medical Malpractice Unit where he defended New York City's municipal hospitals in a wide array of medical malpractice claims. After leaving the Law Department in 2003, Steve continued cultivating his litigation skills at a prominent New York City defense firm, where he continued to focus on complex medical malpractice matters. Steve has tried numerous matters to verdict in courts throughout the New York metropolitan area, prevailing in a variety of actions involving allegations of wrongful death, neurologically-impaired infants, failure to timely diagnose claims and other high exposure actions. Steve is an active member of his community and frequently presents to his clients, including risk managers, hospitals and long-term care facilities on litigation and regulatory matters. He has also lectured before the New York State Supreme Court Judge conferences on evidentiary and legal issues in the medical and professional malpractice arenas. Steve is a graduate of the University of Virginia School of Law and received his bachelor's degree from the College of William and Mary. He is admitted to practice before the Courts of the State of New York, as well as various federal courts in the region. Steve is an active member of various bar associations and defense groups, including the Nassau-Suffolk Trial Lawyers' Association, the New York State Medical Defense Bar Association, and the Defense Research Institute.

Susan joined Rubin Paterniti Gonzalez Rizzo Kaufman LLP in 2022 as a Senior Associate in the firm's Garden City office. Susan has a wealth of experience in nursing home and medical malpractice litigation, having worked in three other well-regarded Long Island insurance defense firms in her over 30 years of practice. Susan handles all aspects of litigation, including all stages of discovery, from the inception of the case, to taking and defending depositions and dispositive motion practice, preparing expert witnesses, up to and including trial preparation.
