Shannon Duffy

Like so many of my colleagues here at Riverview, I'm always looking forward to the start of a new school year and its endless possibilities for both students and faculty - we never know where life is going to take us! After receiving my Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education from the University of Missouri, I moved to Birmingham, Alabama where I started teaching, and would later earn a Master's from UAB, along with my American Montessori Society 6-9 credentials. I taught for 5 years in Birmingham and one year in Athens, Georgia before moving to Beaufort. With the birth of my oldest son, I took a break from teaching to raise my boys. After my youngest son headed off to preschool, I was drawn back to teaching where I had five wonderful years at EC Montessori School on Lady's Island teaching the multi-age 1-3 grade class. I was drawn to Riverview because I saw that my philosophy of teaching matches so seamlessly with what teachers do here at Riverview: nurture the whole child, create meaningful and real world learning experiences, emphasize learning by doing, and love what you do!
