Anthony Adornetto

After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps from 2004-2009, Anthony returned home and attended Muskingum University. Upon graduating with a degree in Political Science and Public Affairs, Anthony accepted a position in Ohio's Sixth Congressional District. The district included all or parts of eighteen counties in Ohio's eastern and southeastern region. During this time, Anthony acted as the liaison between federal government officials and business and community leaders to provide leadership and guidance for local economic development initiatives. With a regional reputation for business and political acumen and breadth of experience managing projects and relationships, Zane State College hired Anthony as the Vice President of Institutional Advancement. Anthony obtained his MBA from Ohio University during this tenure, eventually being promoted to Chief of Staff. This role served as the principal for workforce development, Executive Director of the College's $12M Foundation, chief engagement officer for external stakeholders, and led and communicated institutional organizational strategies. After a decade of work in the Appalachian region, Anthony founded the Executive Consultants Group to provide research, strategic planning, opportunity benchmarking, and pragmatic leadership skills. Anthony provides executive-level support and innovation capacity for business and community decision-makers. Anthony believes that civic engagement is critical to community and economic development. Anthony currently serves as a member of the Cambridge Area Chamber of Commerce, Muskingum County Center for Seniors, and Muskingum Respiratory Care Association. Past board and committee services include Eastern Ohio Development Alliance, Ohio Mid-Eastern Governments Association, Southeast Ohio Manufacturing Coalition, and Zanesville-Muskingum County Chamber of Commerce. Anthony resides in Zanesville, OH, with his wife Erin and three sons, Alex, Asher, and AJ.

Benjamin Hess

As part of the third generation at Mattingly Foods, Benjamin Hess grew up in the food distribution business which began with his love for trucks as a child and continues with his passion for logistics today. Ben currently serves as Executive Vice President for the Mattingly Family of Companies, which includes 45 Degree Logistics, Mattingly Cold Storage, ABB Leasing Company, Mattingly Landscape Services, and Shai-Hess Commercial Real Estate. Ben is a proud 1999 graduate of Ohio University with a B.B.A. degree majoring in General Business. Additionally, Ben serves on the board of ForeverDads, as the immediate past president, as well as on an advisory board for St. Thomas Aquinas Church. Ben and his wife Shannon live in Zanesville, Ohio along with their three children, Brayden, Addison and Preston.

Brad Shumaker

Brad returned to Central Ohio in 2017 after 29 years in the U.S. Marine Corps. Born in Newark, Ohio he graduated from Newark High School, then attended The Ohio State University where he majored in Business. As a Marine he served around the world, retiring from the Marine Corps as a Colonel in 2012. As an Infantry Officer he commanded infantry units and worked national security issues as a Plans Officer. After the Marine Corps Brad spent 5 years as a management consultant, working primarily with Chevron Oil. Brad joined the Shai-Hess Commercial Real Estate team in January 2021. He brings with him the values instilled during his time in the Marine Corps of Honor, Courage, and Commitment and skills in planning, training, and leadership.

Brandon Hess

Brandon is a proud 3rd generation family member of the Mattingly Family Companies in Zanesville, OH. From 2011 - 2014, Brandon served as President of the family's Mattingly Foods of Louisville division in Louisville, KY. During this time, his Team was able to grow sales from $16 million to over $32 million in just three years. In January 2015, the Company was sold and Brandon was challenged by his family to continue diversifying. The family's focus has always been on service and quality with a foundation built on relationships. Brandon is now extending his family's focus and his own passion for real estate with the Shai Hess Commercial Real Estate Team in Granville, OH. Brandon joined the Shai Team in July 2015 as an agent, became an associate broker in June 2018 and a partner in Shai Hess Commercial Real Estate in September 2018. He also continues to serve as Executive Vice President of Mattingly Enterprises, LLC. Brandon has a degree from Ohio University College of Business with a major in accounting. He is also very committed to the community and enjoys donating his time, knowledge and skills whenever possible. Connor McMahon

Connor is the step-son to our very own Stephen Layman. Connor grew up in the Zanesville area and played soccer at Tri-Valley before going on to Ohio University where he would get his bachelor's degree in exercise physiology and his doctorate in physical therapy in 2019. He currently still practices as a physical therapist in Granville. Connor became licensed as a real estate agent in February 2021. He initially gained interest after hearing about and seeing Steve help his clients achieve their goals. Connor enjoys helping his clients/patients in a holistic way by having the capacity to address both their physical health and their real estate needs.

Eddie Hunt

Eddie moved to Licking County over thirty years ago and has called Ohio home ever since! Upon graduating from Heath High School in 2002, Eddie enrolled at Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) where he obtained his degree of Associate of Applied Science in Architectural Drafting and Design Technology. While attending COTC, Eddie was awarded the Clarence Feil Engineering Award and was inducted into the Phi Theta Kappa Society International Scholastic Order of the Two-Year College. In 2006 Eddie was awarded the Phi Theta Kappa Honors Scholarship in recognition of outstanding academic achievement and received a scholarship to attend DeVry University where he received his degree of Bachelor's of Technical Management with a focus on Project Management. Eddie graduated from Magna Cum Laude from DeVry University in 2007 and was inducted into the Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society in recognition of academic excellence and strong leadership qualities. Eddie became the Zoning Inspector for the City of Heath in 2008, a title which he retained for seven years before being promoted to the Chief of the Division of Building and Zoning in 2015. As Chief, Eddie was responsible for ensuring that all development projects located within the city limits were constructed in compliance with the City's Codified Ordinances, Development Regulations, and Storm Water Design Manual as well as in compliance with the Ohio EPA NPDES permit program, FEMA's Floodplain Development Rules and Regulations, and other state and federal development guidelines. Eddie directed hundreds of site plan reviews and land development/redevelopment projects during his thirteen years at the City. As Chief, Eddie worked in close liaison with the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT), Licking County Area Transportation Study (LCATS), Licking County Transportation Improvement District (TID), and Ohio Public Works Commission on an annual basis to secure funding for major capital improvement projects. His responsibilities included writing grants, scoping projects, attending meetings with local and state government officials, and preparing estimates and budgets. In addition, Eddie served as the Community Reinvestment Area (CRA) Housing Officer for the City of Heath as the Chief and was responsible for both processing all CRA applications for developers and conducting the annual CRA Housing Council review of each of the existing CRA tax abatements. The City of Heath had a Pre-1994 CRA program as well as an Enterprise Zone Tax Abatement program. Eddie served as representative for the City of Heath on the Licking County Tax Incentive Review Council (TIRC) as well. Eddie obtained his Ohio Real Estate License in January 2021 after successfully completing the Real Estate License program through Hondros College's online self study course. He wishes to utilize his experiences and knowledge gained while working for the City of Heath to help clients with real estate development projects and private commercial investments in the private sector. He also has a personal goal to develop land one day as a private investment. Eddie is a firm believer that you must always strive to learn something new in order to keep up with the rest of the world. Sitting still is not an option if you want to succeed. That is a lesson that he has learned in life and more recently with the birth of his baby girl. She doesn't stop! Eddie lives in North Newark with his wife Kelli and their daughter Liana Belle. She is their princess and they will always strive to provide her with the best. You can find the three of them relaxing at the Buckeye Lake Brewery or on the bike path on the north bank when it's nice out. They tend to be attracted to the lake life during the spring and summer months. College football take precedence over all else in the fall with the Ohio State Buckeyes on center stage. During the winter you can find them hibernating at home.

J. Park Shai III - Founder, President

Born and raised in the community, President and founder J. Park Shai III has been part of the local business landscape for over two decades. After majoring in business at the Ohio State University, Park opened his own catering business. That led to becoming the restaurant manager of a local favorite, Bryn Mawr, for the next three years. Following his entrepreneurial instincts, he leveraged that management experience to start his own landscaping business. Within a few years, that success afforded him an opportunity to sell the landscaping business to a larger local landscaper. Park then went into sales and sales management with Michael's Finer Meats & Seafood for eight years. At this time his reputation, local relationships, and sales skills seemed to be a great fit for the real estate market. Getting his realtor's license in 1995, he became a top producer in the 7 years he was with a local real estate company. He successfully obtained his Broker's license and with his ever-present entrepreneurial spirit, Park opened Shai · Hess Commercial Real Estate, LLC. in March 2003. With the growth and success at Shai · Hess Commercial Real Estate, as a veteran in commercial real estate for over ten years, Park has become the most respected and sought out name in the area. His life would not be complete without the love and support of his wife, Holly, and their three daughters. With a deep-rooted sense of community and family values, they live on a farm in Granville. Park is a member of the Rotary International, on the Board of Licking County Foundation , the Newark Alliance, and the International Council of Shopping Centers.

Karen Mathis

Karen Mathis is an integral part of the Shai · Hess Commercial Real Estate Team as the Office Manager and an Agent since 2004. Karen manages the day to day operations of all agents in the brokerage as well as maintaining all appropriate listing and closing documents. She also assists Park Shai with property management for over 100 Commercial, Retail, and Residential units. Karen previously held positions with Paramount Financial Group/CAPMARK a sub-division of GMAC as a Research Associate and the Newark City Schools as a Library Media Aide. Karen attained her GED and attended Ohio Dominican College for Library Science as well as The Hondros College of Business for her Real Estate license. Karen is blessed with a large family in the Newark area, and is truly the "mom" of the Shai · Hess Commercial Real Estate Team.

Kayla Marling

You may recognize her from her 10 years of sales and service at Style Out Loud Salon and Spa in Zanesville. Kelly Fenton

Kelly Fenton is the in-house accountant for Shai · Hess Commercial Real Estate, LLC. Kelly helps manage both the finances for the brokerage as well as investments that the brokerage makes in Real Estate. From 1996 to 2017 she provided childcare for Teachers with children ages newborn to 5. Prior to her having a family and becoming a stay-at-home mom, she and her husband, David, built 10 homes from 1990 to 1996. Kelly has previous experience with Commercial Real Estate from her tenure with Anderson Layman Company in Newark as a Secretary. She also has hands on banking experience from working at Central Trust Company in the mid-1980's. After graduating from Newark High School, Kelly attended the Central Ohio Technical College achieving an Associates of Applied Business degree. Kelly also volunteered her time with The P.E.O. Chapter EL, an organization that helps women attend college, serving a term as Treasurer and President. She also is heavily involved with the Newark Orchestra Parents Association. Anyone who knows Kelly knows that she is extremely focused on her family, she and David still live in Newark. They have four children scattered around the state of Ohio and one grandson.

Mike Bethel

Mike is a fourth generation real estate appraiser/agent. He worked alongside his grandfather and father for many years before starting his own appraising agency in central Ohio in 2003. In addition to appraising he has been involved in many areas of real estate over the years. In 2006, he co-founded and operated Ready2Market LLC, a contracting company that provided property preservation services for local and national lenders to vacant, abandoned and foreclosed real estate. Mike sold Ready2Market LLC to his business partner after four years of tremendous growth of revenue and profit so that he could focus on his growing family and dig deeper into the real estate world by getting his real estate sales license. He joined the Century 21 Excellence Realty team in 2011. As he worked more in the central Ohio area as an appraiser and agent, he saw the opportunity with single family assets and co-founded an investment property firm focused on single family assets in 2016. He later joined partners in 2021 creating a business focused on multi-family assets. As Mike started to do more commercial appraisals, he discovered how much he enjoyed the commercial side of the real estate world. He joined the Shai-Hess Team in 2023 as an agent to continue to learn, grow and foster his passion for real estate in the commercial arena. Rob Klinger

Rob Klinger brings years of experience in job creation, economic development and real estate. Rob comes to us from the Licking County Economic Development Managers position and is Vice President of the Lead Brokerage/Sales Team for Shai · Hess Commercial Real Estate. Rob focuses his expertise on job creation in office, manufacturing, warehouse and site selection for expanding companies. Rob was the Licking County Economic Development Manager from 2001 through May 2011. During the period as Economic Development Manager Mr. Klinger worked with numerous developers, site selectors, manufacturing/warehouse corporations, local, state and federal representatives in order to secure manufacturing/warehouse investment in Licking County. Rob has extensive accounting/entrepreneurial background, was an owner/investor of a U.S. manufacturing company and marketed products nationally and internationally. Prior to entering private industry, Mr. Klinger gained extensive experience as a Special Agent/Criminal Investigator with the U.S. Treasury and the Federal Strike Force Against Organized Crime. Rob is an active volunteer with LICCO, Salvation Army, Veterans Hospice Compassion In Action, Sahaj Marg Yoga, Newark Rotary, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Greater Licking County Convention and Visitors Bureau, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and American Legion.
