Woodlawn East Community and Neighborhoods, Inc. (WECAN) is a nonprofit 501(c) 3 community-based organization established on October 1, 1980, in the state of Illinois. In 2020, WECAN will celebrate 40 years and counting of service to the residents of Chicago's South Side Woodlawn community. The agency is governed by a five-member board of directors, including its founder, Mattie Butler. Board members represent a diverse spectrum of the community, and 100 percent are residents of Woodlawn... WECAN is a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving Chicago's Woodlawn community and its residents since 1980... WECAN provides affordable housing by renting units in its mixed-use building which consists of 5 commercial units and 23 residential apartments.
