Andrew Carr

Biography Andrew Carr graduated from the University of New South Wales (UNSW), Sydney, in 1984, became a member of both the Royal Australasian College of Physicians and the Royal College of Pathologists Australasia in 1993, and completed his doctoral thesis on HIV-related drug hypersensitivity in 1994. He has been at St Vincent's Hospital, Sydney, since 1989, where he is Director of the HIV, Immunology and Infectious Diseases Unit, and Head of the Clinical Research Program, Centre for Applied Medical Research. He was appointed Professor of Medicine, UNSW, in 2006. He serves on the editorial boards of The Lancet and PLoS Medicine, and has authored more than 300 peer-reviewed publications. His main research interest is the complications of antiretroviral therapy. He is a member of the program committee of the Adverse Drug Reactions and Comorbidities workshop since its inception in1999, and of an advisory working group on antiretroviral toxicity for the INSIGHT network. He was a member of the CROI program committee from 2005 to 2014. In 2008, he was cited by Science as one of the top 10 HIV researchers worldwide in the previous 10 years.

Biography Anne-Genevieve Marcelin is Professor of Medicine at Sorbonne Université in Paris, France and clinical virologist at the Pitié-Salpêtrière Hospital. She's head of a research team (Inserm UMR 1136) dedicated to Therapeutic strategies for HIV infection and associated viral diseases. Pr Anne-Genevieve Marcelin research interests include HIV mechanisms of resistance to antiretrovirals, new therapy strategies for HIV treatment and new antiretroviral agents. Bonaventura Clotet

Biography Dr. Clotet received his MD at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona in 1976 and his PhD in 1981 for his investigations on surrogate markers for connective tissue diseases. He is an associated professor of medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, he is the head of infectious diseases department and president of Fundació Lluita contra la Sida" (Fight against AIDS Foundation). Dr. Clotet is also the Director of the retrovirology laboratory at "IrsiCaixa" Foundation and professor of the "Chair of AIDS and related diseases" at the Universitat de VIC (UVic-UCC). He was Head of the HIV Unit of the Hospital Germans Trias between 1987 and 2015, when he became Head of the Infectious Diseases Department. He is also Director of the Retrovirology Laboratory "IrsiCaixa" Foundation, since 1995, and President of the "Lluita contra la SIDA" Foundation since 1992. Since 2006, he is co-director of the HIVACAT project for the development of the AIDS vaccine in Catalonia, Spain. He is associated professor of Medicine at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) since 1986, and Professor of the "Chair of AIDS and related diseases" at the University of VIC (UVic-UCC) since October 2013. Dr. Clotet was member of the steering committee of EuroSIDA (multicenter group for the study of AIDS in Europe) between 1994 and 2010. His retrovirology laboratory at "IrsiCaixa Foundation" is the reference lab for HIV resistance in Europe through EuroSIDA. He has published more than 500 papers in international journals and he is co-director of the AIDS CYBERJOURNAL and has been member of the editorial board of AIDS Journal for 8 years.He has authored numerous chapters in retrovirology, and he has been an invited speaker at numerous international and national conferences. Dr. Clotet's team is composed by 150 people working at the clinics and at the lab focusing on HIV, immune system abnormalities and related infectious diseases, cancer, papiloma virus, metagenomics, hepatitis and NASH, and aging. Dr. Clotet has created 2 spin-offs, currently active, from IrsiCaixa: AELIX Therapeutics and AlbaJuna Therapeutics.

Biography Bruce is the founding executive director of Prevention Access Campaign which launched Undetectable = Untransmittable (U=U), a global community-driven movement with over 1000 official partners in 102 countries sharing the revolutionary but largely unknown fact: people living with HIV on treatment with an undetectable viral load cannot transmit HIV to sexual partners. In 2012, nine years after his diagnosis, Bruce learned U=U. After recognizing that people with HIV and the public were not being informed about this groundbreaking science, he joined with activists and researchers to clear up mixed messages about U=U and ensure the science reaches the people it was intended to benefit.

Catriona Waitt

Biography Catriona Waitt is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Global Health at the University of Liverpool, UK, and is undertaking her Wellcome Clinical Research Career Development Fellow at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda. Her major interest is drug dosing and safety in populations who are complex and often neglected from clinical trials, particularly pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and their infants. Her fellowship "MILK: Maternal and Infant Lactation pharmacokinetics" explores the transfer of a range of anti-infective drugs from mother to breastfed infant, combining clinical studies and pharmacometric approaches. She is Chief Investigator on the EDCTP-funded VirTUAL consortium, which combines a dose-escalation clinical trial, an observational pharmacokinetic study and both PBPK and pop-PK modelling to understand the interactions between second-line ART and first-line TB treatment. Alongside her research, she is a faculty member for Pharmacometrics Africa and all her work has a strong capacity-building aspect.

Charles A. B. Boucher

Charles A. B. Boucher received his MD cum laude at the Academic Medical Center in 1987. In 1993 he finished his PhD in Virology at the University of Amsterdam. He published over 250 peer reviewed papers, that have appeared in Science, New England Journal of Medicine, The Lancet, Nature Medicine, Journal of Infectious Diseases and AIDS. He coordinated several success European funded programs. He was the coordinator of a large network (33 countries) in Europe that studies the transmission of drug resistant HIV and chairs the European Society for Antiviral Research (ESAR). He was professor in Virology at the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam, clinical microbiologist at the Erasmus Medical Center, coordinator of the Honours Class with the medical curriculum and scientific director at Virology Education, Utrecht, Netherlands. Prof. Boucher was an organizer of international workshops, meetings and conferences, a consultant throughout Europe and the United States, a reviewer for scientific journals and co-chairman of several international committees. He was the author of numerous publications. Charles W. Flexner - Chairman

Biography Charles W. Flexner is Professor of Medicine in the Divisions of Clinical Pharmacology and Infectious Diseases, and Professor of Pharmacology and Molecular Sciences at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He is also Professor of International Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health. Dr. Flexner is an expert on the basic and clinical pharmacology of drugs for HIV/AIDS and related infections, including viral hepatitis and tuberculosis. His scientific contributions include work on the important roles of pharmacokinetic enhancement, medication adherence, and dosing frequency in the long-term management of HIV/AIDS. He has published extensively on anti-infective drug transport and metabolism, and metabolic drug interactions. His current research includes the discovery and development of new molecules and formulations for long-acting parenteral administration for treatment and prevention of HIV infection. He directs the Long Acting/Extended Release Antiretroviral Research Resource Program (LEAP; www.longactinghiv.org), and the Johns Hopkins Baltimore-India Clinical Trials Unit. He is a member of the editorial board of 11 scientific journals. He is a consultant to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and the Clinton Health Access Initiative, and serves on the WHO Clinical Guidelines Development Group for Treatment and Prevention of HIV in Adults, Adolescents, and Children.

Diane Descamps

Biography Diane Descamps is MD and PhD. She is currently Professor of Virology in Denis-Diderot Medical School at Paris-Diderot University in Paris. She is the head of Virology department, at Bichat-Claude Bernard University Hospital. She is the team leader of an academic research unit « Strategy in Antiretroviral Therapy and Resistance » in INSERM UMR_1137 and Paris-Diderot University. Her research interests focus on antiviral therapy and drug-resistance, virus genetic variability, and molecular diagnostics. She is involved for more than 20 years in HIV-1 resistance to antiretroviral drugs and HIV-2 resistance and pathogenesis. She is the coordinator of the Agence Nationale de Recherche sur le SIDA et les Hépatites Virales (ANRS) Resistance Group. She has published over 200 peer reviewed articles as well as book chapters. She is involved in programs for training and diagnosis in resource-limited countries.

Dr. Chen Seong Wong

Dr. Chen Seong Wong is a Senior Consultant physician with the Department of Infectious Diseases, Tan Tock Seng Hospital, as well as the National Centre for Infectious Diseases, where he is the Head of the Clinical HIV Programme and the Deputy Director of the National HIV Programme. His clinical and research interests are in HIV medicine, including HIV treatment and prevention, and the sociobehavioural determinants of HIV and other STIs. He has published in the fields of clinical HIV, pre-exposure prophylaxis, and socio-behavioural and implementation science as it applies to HIV. He is also actively involved in medical education and training, and is the Programme Director for the National Healthcare Group Infectious Diseases Residency Programme, in addition to his appointment as Assistant Professor with the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore.

Biography Dr. Donn Colby is a Research Physician at the U.S. Military HIV Research Program (MHRP). Based in Seattle, WA, he supervises collaborative studies with Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington State and contributes to clinical protocols implemented in Asia. Prior to joining MHRP in 2019, he was co-investigator on the RV254 trial of acute HIV infection at the Thai Red Cross AIDS Research Centre in Bangkok, Thailand. Dr. Colby received his B.A. in Biology at Johns Hopkins University and his M.D. at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. He did his internal medicine residency training and Masters in Public Health at the University of Washington in Seattle. Dr. Colby's research interests include the epidemiology of HIV in Southeast Asia, clinical outcomes among people living with HIV, the implementation of preexposure prophylaxis (PrEP), and clinical trials aiming to cure HIV infection.

Eileen F. Dunne

Eileen F. Dunne, MD, MPH, FIDSA, CAPT USPHS, is the Clinical Research Site (CRS) Leader, Silom Community Clinic, and the Director of the Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention's CDC HIV/STD Research Program in Bangkok, Thailand. She has been the Clinical Research Site (CRS) Leader as a part of the Emory CDC CTU since 2018. She is the Site Investigator of Record for HPTN 083 and MTN 026, and she has been on the HPTN Sexual and Gender Minority Scientific Committee (SGM SC) since 2016. Dr. Dunne has led research on HIV and STD prevention for over 22 years. Prior to her position with the HIV/STD Research Program in Bangkok, Thailand, Dr. Dunne led efforts for development of HPV vaccine recommendations and vaccine impact monitoring for over 13 years in the Division of STD Prevention, CDC. Dr. Dunne has been on the HPV Committee of the IDSA Guidelines for the Prevention and Treatment of Opportunistic Infections in HIV-Infected Adults and Adolescents, since 2013, and she was on the HPV Vaccine Workgroup for the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices from 2005-2014. Dr. Dunne led the development of Recommendations for HPV and Genital Warts, STD Treatment Guidelines, in 2006, 2010 and 2015. Dr. Dunne has led or co-led over 100 peer-reviewed publications.

Biography Jonathan M Schapiro, MD has devoted his career to HIV clinical care, research and education since completing his Fellowship in Infectious Diseases and Geographic Medicine at the Stanford University School of Medicine Center For AIDS Research, Stanford CA. Dr. Schapiro Graduated from the Ben Gurion University School of Medicine and completed his Medicine Residency at the Rabin Medical Center in Israel. Dr. Schapiro's research has focused on the causes of antiretroviral drug failure, interventions to optimize clinical care, and new drug development. His interests have include resistance and cross-resistance between drugs, associations between resistance and pharmacology, development of new antiretroviral agents with improved resistance and pharmacological profiles, the clinical utility of resistance and drug level testing, and integrating resistance assays and other diagnostics into clinical care. He has been involved in the development of advanced interpretation systems for these assays, and has worked to highlight the importance of interactions between drug exposure and resistance. Dr. Schapiro currently runs the HIV/AIDS clinic at the National Hemophilia Center in Tel Aviv, Israel.

Kenneth H. Mayer

Biography Dr. Mayer trained in Internal Medicine at Beth Israel Hospital and in Infectious Diseases and Molecular Epidemiology at Brigham and Women's Hospital. As the founding Medical Research Director of Fenway Health, he created a community health research program that has developed an international reputation for its capability to conduct community-based research. He is currently a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, a Professor in Global Health and Population at the Harvard TC Chan School of Public Health, and Attending Physician and Director of HIV Prevention Research at Beth Israel Deaconess Hospital. Starting in 1994, he has been a site Principal Investigator of NIH-funded clinical trials units, focusing on bio-behavioral HIV prevention research, and is a member of the scientific leadership of HPTN. He has co-authored more than 1000 peer-reviewed publications, co-authored the first text on AIDS for the general public and has co-edited 5 academic texts. He has served on the national boards of amfAR, HIVMA, and GLMA, was a member of the CDC/HRSA HIV/AIDS Advisory Committee, and was a member of the Governing Council of the International AIDS Society. He is an Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the International AIDS Society, and serves on the PEPFAR Scientific Advisory Board.
