The oldest known cast metal item is a copper frog, believed to have been crafted over five thousand years ago in the Middle East. Nobody really knows for sure about the history of metal casting but it's generally thought that metal casting has been in use in Asia and the Middle East for many thousands of years. The earliest documented use of cast iron occurred in China three thousand years ago. It was a technique used mainly for farming equipment at the time.
