Richard Jones

Job Titles:
  • College Leader
Mr R Jones;- College Leader for Newton at Tudor Grange Academy Kingshurst. I was born in North Wales and brought up in a quiet region of Mid-Wales where the local secondary school played a key role within the community. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in school and benefited from countless opportunities to take part in extra-curricular activities. I thrived from playing lots of sport and through involvement in music too. I played several sports to both county and regional level and a former PE teacher was particularly influential in offering advice and providing opportunities. Having successfully completed my A-Levels, I decided to leave the peace and tranquillity of rural life behind to move to a "big city" to study a combined Geography and PE degree at the University of Birmingham. Once again, I chose well and I loved my time in Higher Education. As I neared the end of the degree course, I thought long and hard about a possible career and kept returning to the fact that I needed to do something that I felt passionate about and that I enjoyed. I therefore remained in Birmingham to study a PGCE. My first teaching job took me to Leicester where I joined a highly talented and thoroughly dedicated PE team. After seven years at this school, I was appointed Head of PE at CTC Kingshurst, a new school in East Birmingham. Little did I know that I would remain at this school for so quite so many years! I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at the school with its strong sense of community and close working relationships. I maintain that there is no better professional feeling than seeing a student move on to bigger and better things and I sincerely hope that I have been able to have a similarly positive influence on some youngsters as my former PE teacher had on me.
