RICHARDSON RESEARCH GROUP

Periodic table of the consituent elements studied using MBE in our research. Our interdisciplinary research is grounded in the physics of materials synthesis and device fabrication with the broad goal of advancing the state-of-the-art in conventional and quantum information science applications. Experimental research focused activities use molecular beam epitaxy (MBE) to merge the fundamental science of epitaxial growth with device design. Device prototypes are fabricated to correlate performance with material properties and structure. To accomplish these goals, our research touches on all aspects of materials synthesis, device fabrication, and measurement science. Our research leverages experience in a variety of materials with specific interest in the science of abrupt metamorphic interfaces and the subsequent creation of a single-crystal epitaxial layer that is crystallographically different than the substrate.
