Anne Powell

Job Titles:

Anne is responsible for all daily aspects of the office including staff and finance as well as being part of the management team. She has eight years' experience in events, including three years as a Logistics Manager and most recently, five years as the Office Manager for an educational events company. Anne has a BA in Economics and French from Kingston University and a Post Graduate Diploma in Information Science from City University.

Annette Straight

Job Titles:
  • Publications Officer
Annette is responsible for the preparation, modification and final laying out of the technical reports written by the highly-qualified authors at the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon. Annette has worked at ICSC for over 25 years. For many years she was PA to the Managing Directors and then to the previous Company Secretary.

Benedicte Brocks

Job Titles:
  • Communications Manager
Benedicte is the first point of contact for most visitors to the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon. She is responsible for the website working successfully, raising the profile of the Centre on our social media platforms and promoting our work. She assists in the smooth running of conferences and workshops, as well as focusing on communications in general. Benedicte holds a Master's degree in Communications and has worked on editing, writing and managing websites for a number of years.

Debo Adams

Debo is responsible for the selection and management of the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon's programme of studies and dissemination of the work of the Centre. Prior to this role, Debo was Communications Manager and organiser of the Workshop series on Cofiring biomass with coal, Assistant Editor and Author at the Centre. Debo was a freelance author for a number of years and wrote reports for the IEA GHG, the Financial Times and the World Petroleum Council. Debo has a BSc in Environmental Science from the University of Newcastle and an MSc from City University in Information Science. Debo is responsible for the selection and management of the ICSC's programme of studies and dissemination of the work of the Centre.

Dr Ian Reid

Ian is a combustion technology specialist with over 40 years' experience in the gas, oil and petrochemicals industry. Ian has produced studies for the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon on Non-energy uses for coal, Beneficial uses of fly ash and is currently working on Advances in the non-energy use of coal. Ian spent 18 years at BP as a scientific specialist in the invention, development and design of new technologies and associated safety systems. Ian gained experience in a broad range of energy technologies including: energy generation; process safety, intensive reactors for chemical's production; and oxy-combustion. These activities led to authorship of over 20 patents in the field of high pressure oxidation. These topics have particular relevance to advanced coal gasification technologies. Prior to 1989, Ian was a researcher at British Gas in the combustion and explosions group at the London Research Station developing a fundamental computerised chemical kinetic model for the auto-ignition of gaseous mixtures. In 2006, Ian established an independent consultancy providing scientific services on a varied range of combustion related projects that include: catalytic oxidation; accreditation of biofuels; and syngas generation for Fischer-Tropsch fuels. Ian has specific experience of emerging clean coal technologies, in particular syngas production, including in-situ coal conversion, and the application of carbon dioxide capture in the chemical industry. Ian has a degree in Chemistry and PhD in gas kinetics and modelling from the University of Aberdeen and is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a Chartered Chemist.

Dr Qian Zhu

Qian is a specialist on clean coal technologies, air pollutant emission control technologies, and low-rank coal combustion. She has recently reviewed the prospects for power generation from coal using supercritical CO 2, and is currently assessing carbon capture and utilisation. After receiving her first degree in Chemical Engineering, Qian was involved in R&D on sulphur and CO 2 removal processes for semi-water gas produced from coal gasification. She then studied for her PhD and carried out post-doctoral work at the Northern Carbon Research Laboratory, University of Newcastle-upon-Tyne.

Dr Stephen Mills

Steve is very knowledgeable on a range of clean coal-related topics such as advanced power generation, life cycle analysis, technology roadmapping, and issues associated with the growing use of renewable energies. He has also produced a number of studies examining the potential for clean coal technologies in specific countries or regions.

Dr. Andrew Minchener

Dr Andrew Minchener, OBE has overall responsibility for the International Centre of Sustainable Carbon's activities, with special emphasis on maintaining a strong international profile for all aspects of clean coal utilisation, with a focus on outreach to developing and industrialising countries. Andrew is a Fellow of the Energy Institute and a Chartered Engineer. He has over 35 years' experience in fossil fuel and biomass/waste utilisation, systems development, energy and environmental consultancy, and contract research and development, with particular emphasis on clean coal and CCUS issues in Europe and the Far East. This includes specific expertise in policy/institutional/regulatory analysis, techno/socio-economic analysis, training/capacity building, knowledge transfer and international business development. Following a senior role at the British Coal Corporation Coal Research Establishment and its successor company CRE Group Services, he worked with a number of organisations including the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the International Energy Agency, the European Commission, the United Nations and the International Centre for Sustainable Carbon. He has undertaken numerous overseas assignments, including over 160 missions to the People's Republic of China and other parts of Asia. Andrew has a BSc in Chemistry and a MSc in Combustion & Explosion Studies (both from the University of Leeds), a DPhil in Coal Conversion Systems (University of Ulster), and a DSc in Energy and Environment studies (University of Leeds). He was awarded an OBE for his 'contribution to international science and clean energy cooperation with China'. Andrew Minchener has overall responsibility for the ICSC's activities, with special emphasis on maintaining a strong international profile for all aspects of clean coal utilisation, with a focus on outreach to developing and industrialising countries.

Greg Kelsall

Greg has over 30-years' experience in the energy related industry with specialist knowledge in clean energy systems. An independent energy consultant, his activities include being a Principal Associate to the ICSC, Visiting Professor in Low Carbon Energy Systems at the University of Sheffield's Chemical and Biological Engineering Department funded through the Royal Academy of Engineering, Vice-Chairman of the Institute of Chemical Engineers Clean Energy Special Interest Group and an independent expert for a number of Innovate UK's funding competitions as well as being a registered Monitoring Officer with Innovate UK. His previous industrial experience was primarily with the power equipment and infrastructure companies of General Electric and Alstom where he worked on a wide range of technology programmes including fuel flexible gas turbines to burn syngas and hydrogen, carbon capture systems, stationary power fuel cells and renewable power generation. A graduate of the University of Leeds, Greg has a master's degree in chemical engineering and is a Fellow of the Institute of Chemical Engineers.

Joanna Rejniak

Joanna is responsible for treasury management, budgeting, the year-end accounts, external project costing control, review of the VAT returns, payroll, pensions and general office management. Prior to this Joanna was Assistant Accountant for Lombok, and carried out financial work for various other organisations. Her career in finance began in Poland where she worked for two large building companies. Joanna has a Master's degree in Marketing and Management (University of Lodz, Poland). She has AAT Accounting Qualification (QCF) -Level 4 Diploma in Accounting and she has completed Payroll Administration programme at The Institute of Payroll Professionals.

Rebecca Cameron

Rebecca is the first point of contact for delegates to our workshops and conference. Daily, she manages our contacts database as well as dealing with email enquiries from members. She is responsible for making the news and publications available on the website and sends out our campaigns. She also ensures our events run smoothly, organises venues and practical details for our delegates. Through recently completing a Certified Digital Marketing Professional course and a Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship, Rebecca is skilled in SEO, social media marketing, email marketing, and WordPress. She continues to further her knowledge in marketing through studying in her spare time.
