CHRIS HALLOWES

Chris is a trust specialist who provides clients with practical and easy to understand advice on all matters of trust planning and administration. He graduated with an LLB (Hons) from Auckland University as well as completing a post-graduate diploma in estate and trust administration and is a member of the Society of Trust and Estate Practitioners. Chris also has over 20 years' experience in IT. Although trust law is his speciality, Chris also is experienced in civil and criminal litigation. He regularly appears for clients on civil and criminal matters in the District and High Courts. He assists clients in achieving positive results in business and commercial disputes as well as providing advice on trusts, wills, estate planning and employment issues. Chris has lived on the Shore for 30 years and loves nothing better than enjoying his weekends with his family enjoying barbeque meals or Drone Fishing. Chris understands his clients' needs and is always available to give advice when required.

GLENDA MARTIN

Glenda is the first port of call when you come to Albany Legal. She is an experienced legal secretary who has a deep understanding of the New Zealand legal environment. Glenda will ensure that you feel right at home when visiting. Glenda has been with the firm since 2008 and is a key part of the team.

JULIE LESLIE

Joining the firm in June 2021 Julie brings with her approximately 35 years' experience working in the legal/accounting environment. Julie is responsible for all aspects of trust account administration, settlement transactions, reconciliation and accounts payable. She diligently ensures that client's funds are dealt with according to specific rules and regulations as set down by the New Zealand Law Society. In addition to her accounting responsibilities Julie assists Rick Phillips as his Personal Assistant and Office Manager. Outside of work Julie enjoys spending time with family and friends, fishing, gardening, reading and doing many different crafts.

LAURENCE HERBKE

Laurence specialises in litigation and has experience in all courts in New Zealand. He is an accredited legal aid provider and conducts jury trials for clients facing assault, drug, and fraud charges. Laurence has extensive legal experience from working in a general practice firm in Dunedin (2009 - 2012), as a lecturer specialising in common law at a university in Germany (2012-2014) and practising on the North Shore since 2014. Laurence grew up in Albany. He plays football for Western Springs and lives with his family on the other side of the bridge. Laurence will represent your interests passionately and zealously to ensure that you get the best result possible. He is an advocate that is not afraid to take on the difficult cases but will also give you clear, frank advice when necessary. Laurence appreciates that his clients can find themselves in difficult situations at any time and therefore he is available to be contacted on his cell phone on 0275307086 when urgent assistance is needed.

LUCY KELLY

Lucy graduated from the University of Auckland in 2020 with a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Arts, where she majored in Politics and Art History. After she was admitted to the Bar she began her career working for a criminal Barrister. Lucy started with Albany Legal in February 2022 and regularly appears in Court for clients on criminal matters. She is now broadening her scope of practice to include conveyancing, family law matters and civil disputes.

RICK PHILLIPS

Rick has built close associations with major commercial business players throughout his career. His understanding of the business and legal environment in which his clients operate is invaluable. He is solutions-focused and his common-sense, no nonsense advice regularly saves clients time, money and stress. Rick's established his own legal practice in Parnell in the 80's. In his early years Rick taught commercial law and ran business courses. Away from law, Rick was involved directly in the farming and tourism industries. Through his own experience in the business world, he has developed a true understanding of the commercial interactions that are common in New Zealand and the potential pitfalls that await start-up businesses as well as long established players. Rick is the firm's troubleshooter.
