Alexander Glick

Dr. Glick is a medical oncologist and hematologist for Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute in Sarasota and Charlotte Counties. After earning his undergraduate degree at Wayne State University and his medical degree at Ross University School of Medicine, Dr. Alexander Glick completed his internal medicine residency at St. Mary Mercy Hospital in Livonia, MI. He then pursued a fellowship in hematology/medical oncology at Beaumont Health System in Royal Oak, MI, where he served as Chief Fellow. During his fellowship, Dr. Glick was faculty-selected to become the first recipient of the Freeman Wilner Foundation award for dedication to excellence, commitment to patients, and providing compassionate care. Dr. Glick has an avid interest in clinical research and has been published in leading oncology journals. Throughout his career, Dr. Glick has volunteered by educating his local community on the pathology of cancer, its prevention and treatment. He joined FCS in 2016 and is board-certified in hematology, medical oncology, and internal medicine. In his spare time, Dr. Glick enjoys spending time with his family, traveling, reading and following Detroit sports.

Amy Nance

Dr. Nance is an Oncologist and Hematologist for Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Alachua County. She earned her medical degree from the Mercer University School of Medicine (Macon, GA) and attended Emory University School of Medicine (Atlanta, GA) for her Internal Medicine Residency. After completion she relocated to Chapel Hill, North Carolina to complete her Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at the University of North Carolina. In addition to her academic achievements, Dr. Nance received two research training grants for Hematology and Oncology from the University of North Carolina. As a cancer researcher, Dr. Amy Nance is actively engaged in clinical research and has been published in several peer-reviewed journals. She has special interests in cancers of the breast, lung and colon. Dr. Nance enjoys spending time with her family, running and traveling.

Andres O. Soriano

Dr. Soriano is an Oncologist and Hematologist for Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Charlotte and Sarasota Counties. A graduate of Universidad de Guayaquil Medical School in his native Ecuador, Dr. Soriano is board certified in hematology, oncology and internal medicine. He completed Residencies in Internal Medicine at University of Miami - Jackson Memorial Hospital, St. Louis University - Forest Park Hospital and M.D. Anderson Cancer Center and was awarded a Fellowship in Hematology/ Oncology at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, where he later served as an adjunct assistant professor in medical oncology. Throughout his career, Dr. Soriano has been active in clinical trial research, with a special interest in Phase 1 clinical trials. He has received numerous awards for his work and his research has been published in such prestigious journals as Blood, American Journal of Hematology and the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine. Fluent in Spanish, Portuguese and French, Dr. Soriano likes reading about world history, ancient cultures, global business news and biographies. He also enjoys music and dancing, and staying active through running and exercise. Dr. Soriano and his wife own a real estate company and enjoy spending time with their daughter. Born in Ecuador, South America, medical oncologist Dr. Andres Soriano's love of languages gives him the ability to build relationships with patients and their families from many cultures. His compassion and spirit of service inspires him to do the very best for his patients through their cancer journey. Dr. Soriano discusses some of the advances being made in cancer treatment due to genetic research and targeted therapies. Anjan J. Patel

Dr. Patel is an oncologist and hematologist with Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Sarasota County. He received his undergraduate degree from The University of Florida (UF) with highest honors. He obtained his MD from Florida State University College of Medicine and his training in Internal Medicine at the Georgetown University Hospital and Washington Hospital Center In Washington, DC. After completing his Fellowship in Hematology/Oncology at UF, Dr. Patel joined Florida Cancer Specialists at our Sarasota Downtown location. His research and practice interests include colorectal, pancreatic/hepatobiliary and lung cancers, as well as malignant and non-malignant hematology. Dr. Patel serves as an Associate Professor at the Florida State University College of Medicine and currently participates in the education of medical students and medical residents. As a cancer researcher, he is actively engaged in clinical studies and has served as a principal investigator in several clinical trials. He is published in numerous international peer-reviewed journals, such as The Lancet Oncology, JAMA Oncology, Haemophilia and the Annals of Pharmacology, and he has presented at national meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the American Society of Hematology. Topics of his publications include GI cancers, lung cancers, pharmacology and hemostasis/coagulation. Dr. Patel sits on the Executive Board of Florida Cancer Specialists serving as the Audit Committee Chair, Research Office Chair and a member of the FCS Pharmacy & Therapeutics Committee. He provides leadership on numerous committees at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. The recipient of numerous patient care awards, Dr. Patel has been described as calm, confident and kind-hearted. His interests include scuba diving, traveling, reading and, most of all, spending time with his family. Dr. Anjan Patel discusses new treatment options including targeted therapies that are providing positive results for cancer patients.

Arsh Singh

Dr. Singh is a Board Certified Hematologist and Oncologist for Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Sarasota and Charlotte Counties. Dr. Arsh Singh earned his medical degree from the University of Szeged in Hungary. He completed his internal medicine internship and residency as well as his fellowship in medical oncology at the Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center in New York City. Prior to joining Florida Cancer Specialists, he served as an attending physician and clinical instructor with Cancer Center Sarasota-Manatee. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, the Florida Medical Association, and the Florida Association of Indian Physicians. Dr. Singh is fluent in English, Hindi and Punjabi. He loves spending time with his wife, an internal medicine physician, and three children, and also enjoys golf, football and cricket, and reading non-fiction; his special interests are astrophysics and quantum physics, in particular.

Augusto E. Villegas

Dr. Villegas is an oncologist for Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Clay, Duval and St. Johns Counties. He earned his medical degree from Ponce School of Medicine in Ponce, Puerto Rico. He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Damas Hospital Internal Medicine Residency Program in Ponce, PR. He served as Chief Resident during his third year of training. After completion of residency Dr. Villegas initiated his private practice in Ponce, in addition to serving as a clinical instructor at Ponce School of Medicine and as Director of Ambulatory Services at Ponce Correctional Complex. In 2003, Dr. Villegas relocated in Jacksonville, Fl to pursue his career in Medical Oncology. He completed his fellowship training in Medical Oncology at University of Florida Health Science Center in Jacksonville Campus in 2005. Upon completion, he decided to stay in Jacksonville and join private practice. Dr. Villegas is an active faculty member and lecturer for the Orange Park Medical Center Internal Medicine Residency Program. Avram J. Smukler

Dr. Avram Smukler is a native of Johannesburg, South Africa. Dr. Smukler received a Bachelor of Science degree with honors in Medical Biochemistry and his medical degree from the University of Witwatersand, South Africa. Dr. Smukler has presented original cancer research at a number of medical conferences and has also contributed to oncology publications includingContemporary Oncologyand Current Opinion in Oncology. Dr. Smukler discusses the challenges of treating cancer, rewards of creating interpersonal patient relationships, and future of oncology care.

Barry Berman

Board-certified in medical oncology, hematology, and internal medicine, Dr. Berman earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida College of Medicine, received his internal medicine training at the University of South Florida, and completed his fellowship in medical oncology and hematology at the University of South Florida, H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. Serving many years as a board member for the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology (FLASCO), Dr. Berman also held positions as Clinical Practice Committee Chair, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer for FLASCO. He currently chairs the finance committee for FLASCO. He has also served on the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) Practice Guideline Implementation Network (PGIN) Committee since 2015 and was an author on three of the current guidelines. He also served as chair of the Investigational Review Board at Broward Health. As a cancer researcher, Dr. Berman has been actively engaged in multiple clinical studies over the last 29 years and has been published in many peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Andres Bhatia

Dr. Bhatia is a board-certified oncologist and hematologist for Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Alachua County. Dr. Bhatia was born in Santurce, Puerto Rico and received his medical degree from UCCEM, Puerto Rico. He completed his Internal Medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic Foundation and a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Andres Bhatia, MD joined Gainesville Hematology Oncology Associates (GHOA) in 1993, prior to the practice merging with Florida Cancer Specialists in 2010. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology. He has served as Chief of Staff at North Florida Regional Medical Center since 2011. Dr. Bhatia is married to Jennifer and has three children. He enjoys Gator sports and jogging.

Dr. Antonella Leary

Dr. Leary is a gynecologist with Florida Cancer Specialists and Research Institute in Palm Beach County, specializing in gynecological oncology. Prior to beginning her private practice, Dr. Antonella Leary served as an Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Massachusetts for five and a half years, where she was also the head of minimally invasive surgery and robotics. She is a Principal Investigator with the National Gynecologic Oncology Group, whose primary focus is to develop and evaluate clinical trials centered on female malignancies. Dr. Leary's key focus is on female malignancies, including cervical, vulvar, uterine, and ovarian carcinomas. She has presented her research to numerous professional organizations, such as the Society of European Robotic Gynecological Surgery (SERGS) and the New England Association of Gynecologic Oncologists (NEAGO), and has published in several well-respected peer-reviewed journals, including Thrombosis Research, Women's Oncology Review, Gynecologic Oncology and the American Journal of Clinical Oncology. Fluent in Italian and proficient in Spanish, Dr. Leary has volunteered in underserved communities in the Dominican Republic, Mexico and on Native American Reservations in the U.S., providing educational and medical services to indigenous populations. In her leisure time, Dr. Leary enjoys running, skiing, playing piano, cooking and travel. Throughout his career, Dr. George has been an active participant in clinical trial research, which he describes as "the driver" of the many new and innovative therapies that continue to improve cancer diagnosis and treatment. He says that his greatest reward is the ever-expanding population of cancer survivors who are succeeding and living full lives, thanks to scientific breakthroughs that enable therapies tailored to target each patient's specific tumor. Dr. George is Board-certified in Medical Oncology, Hematology and Internal Medicine. He earned his medical degree from the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine in Tampa, and was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society in his senior year of medical school. Dr. George completed Internal Medicine residency training and a fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at Letterman Army Medical Center in San Francisco, California. He was elected to Fellow of the American College of Internal Medicine. Dr. George joined the American Lebanese Syrian Associated Charities/St. Jude Children's Research Hospital® Boards of Directors in 2008 until 2020 when he went emeritus.
