WEEDON FC - Key Persons

Bill Fountain

Bill Fountain had recognised that there were enough keen kids in Weedon to form a youth team so he arranged some friendlies for them during the 1988-89 season. The following season some of that team graduated to the club's newly-formed Saturday team. In the 1990-91 season Lee was proud to be nominated Players' Player of the year, an award he won for a second time ten years later. He was a runner up in the 1991 Combination Division 2 League Cup Final and 1993 Area Cup Final before winning the 1993 Sunday Alliance Division 2 Cup. Lee thought cup finals would be a regular occurrence with Weedon but this was not the case as he had to wait 22 years for the opportunity to represent the club again in a final with the Vets team…which he unfortunately missed as he was away on holiday.

Danny Chapman

Job Titles:
  • Coach
  • Secretary
Danny made his debut for Weedon FC at the tender age of 14 and went on to make over 400 appearances between 1995-2007, playing and captaining for the Saturday and Sunday Teams in both the Northants Combination Premier Division & Sunday Combination Premier Division. Danny went on to win numerous trophies and awards including winning Players' player and Managers' player on 3 separate occasions throughout his career. Unfortunately a serious knee injury at the age of 26 meant he was forced to retire from playing football early in 2007. Danny later came back to the manage the reserve team in the 2009/10 season winning the reserves division two cup in his first season managing. He has since moved onto managing the first team for a few seasons before going back to manage the reserve team and winning the reserve division two league in 2014. "For me being a part of this club is all I know, I eat, sleep, breathe the dons! It's a delight to be able to give something back to the youngsters of the village!"

Gav Oliff - Chairman

Job Titles:
  • Chairman
Only in the dictionary does success come before work rate, with this in mind our club is committed to working hard to achieve its goals, on and off the pitch. Gav made a scoring debut for Weedon at the age of 16 as tricky left winger, before moving to local UCL club Bugbrooke St Micheals. After a serious ACL rupture he came back to the club at 20 as striker, but at the end of his first season back at the club he ruptured his right ACL as was told he would never play again. He came back to play the next season and is still playing to this day, scoring goals for the veterans team. He has played and scored in every legends match and throughout his career only received one yellow card. Gav became our club chairman in 2011 and helped set up the veterans side in 2013.

Lee Escott

Job Titles:
  • Vice Chairperson
Lee has not only served the club on the park, he also served as club secretary from 2003/04 - 2007/08.

Mick Harris

After spending more than 25 years playing for Timken, Daventry Town, Ford Sports, Silverstone and Brington, Mick, together with Bill Fountain began the formation of the current Weedon FC Saturday teams in the early 1990's. A freak accident on a football club "bonding day" playing paintball games during the Christmas period of 1993, left him in plaster with a torn cartledge in his right knee which effectively ended his Weedon playing career, but began his managerial one ultimately resulting in leading the 1st team to the Division 2 championship and reaching the Area cup final in 1996. He remained a committee member and took over the reins as second team manager ( and occasional player - again !) for a couple of seasons and three times enjoyed the position of chairman to see the club over some difficult periods of time, and is delighted to see the club progressing with its youth development programme. He is honoured to be one of the first inductees into the Hall of Fame and continues to support the club in any way that he can.

Steven Osborne

Job Titles:
  • Communications Officer
It is with great pride that I am fortunate enough to walk these lads out each week, their drive, determination and commitment at such a young age is faultless and a real merit to their parents.
