LIVINGWELL DISABILITY RESOURCE CENTER - Key Persons
I've been involved in the disability sector since 2005. Beginning in Invercargill with the Disability Resource Centre Southland. And from 2015 at Livingwell, Disability Resource Centre. I'm a member of the executive committee for The Federation of Disability Information Centres.
I began my journey in the sector as an aged care support worker. I have had the privilege to work with some amazing individuals who are striving towards their own personal goals. At the beginning of 2017, I started my role at Livingwell, Disability Resource Centre.
A self-defence instructor, 6th dan black belt karate sensei, New Zealand international para-athelete and disability strategist. John is an accredited Barrier Free advisor and is passionate about ensuring the built environment is accessible for people of all abilities.
I started studying within the Health Sector in 2010 and graduated with a Bachelor of Midwifery in 2013. I enjoyed the satisfaction of supporting women and their whanau as a self-employed midwife in Dunedin and a core midwife in Balclutha; but decided on a career change to maintain a better work/life balance. I then worked 3 years as a Health and Disability Advocate supporting consumers experiencing difficulties within the Health and Disability Sector; which was an extremely rewarding role.
I am excited to join the team at Livingwell and embark in my new role as Mobile Service Coordinator. I look forward to bringing the mobile service to communities in the Otago region, providing free information and advice alongside equipment and daily living aids.
