Amia Chez

Amia was born in K'far Saba, Israel, and grew up in Petah Tikvah. She graduated with a teaching certificate from Seminar Talpiot in Tel Aviv, and then served in the IDF as a special education teacher in Kiriat Shmona. After finishing her service in the army, Amia worked as a special education teacher and went to Bar Ilan university. She graduated with degrees in Special Education, Archaeology and Land of Israel studies. In 1987, Amia moved to Skokie with her husband, who grew up in Skokie. Here, she taught special education and Hebrew at Hillel Torah, Patach and Salomon Schechter. She has two daughters. Her youngest made aliyah and served in the IDF.

Chava Sherman

Chava was born and raised in Jerusalem and completed training in teaching and graphics at the Beit Yaakov Seminary. She also completed training as part of a medical device track at the Engineering Kirya. After working at summer camps, Chava moved with her family to Chicago in order to work with the Israeli community. She currently works at Maccabim Sunday School as an administrative assistant and as a Hebrew teacher at Arie Crown Hebrew day school.

Keren Akoka

Keren was born and raised in Kiryat-Shmona, Israel. She served in the IDF as a human resource in a tank base.

Lior Kakon

Job Titles:

Lior was born and raised in Kfar Yehoshua, Israel. She served as Lieutenant of education in the IDF, and graduated from Ben Gurion University in Be'er Sheva with a Bachelor of Arts in Educational Management, Minor in Jewish History, and a Master of Arts in Public Policy and Management. After marrying, she moved to Sderot and lived there for seven years. While studying she worked as Perach Coordinator at the University and Director of an after-school learning center for new immigrants in Sderot. After college, Lior worked at Sderot High School and soon became Program Director, Advisor and administrator. In 2000, Lior moved to Chicago with her family to work at Hillel Torah day school, where she remains today as Head of the Middle-School Hebrew Department and directs the Outdoor Educational, Bar and Bat Mitzvah, and Israel Learning programs. In 2007, Lior assumed the position of Maccabim Sunday School's Principal.

Rabbi Sherman was born and raised in Jerusalem. He completed his BA in Talmudic Law at the Negev Yeshiva and an MA from the Israeli Chief Rabbinate. Rabbi Sherman also received community training by the late Rabbi Mordechai Eliyahu z"l and completed, with distinction, training in education fundamentals. He managed a youth program for high school dropouts in Jerusalem and has managed the Yisraelink organization since 2011.

Sarit Miller

Sarit Miller was born and raised in Jerusalem. After completing her military service in the IDF, she worked at Tefahot Mortgage Bank and completed a BA in business management at the Open University. In 2005, she moved to Chicago and began teaching at Maccabim. For this past decade, she has greatly enjoyed teaching the Maccabim community of students the Tal-am (Ariot) Program and providing instruction, particularly in reading skills. During the last six years, she created a Hebrew immersion program for toddlers that she teaches to both children and their parents/caregivers at Hillel Torah.

Shacade Danan

Shacade grew up in Beit-Shemesh, Israel. As part of her two years of post-high school voluntary National Service, Shacade prepared and taught interactive Jewish Identity lessons in schools, and taught in a special education school. She has a B.S. and M.S. in Biotechnology from Bar-Ilan University. During her studies in the university, Shacade taught theoretical and practical material for students, as a professor's assistant. Parallel to her academic education, Shacade acquired extensive Torah knowledge at the Midrasha of Bar-Ilan University. In her high-school years, Shacade was a youth leader in a youth movement in Israel. Shacade and her family came to Chicago as Shlichim.

Sivan Schneider

Sivan Schneider grew up in Raanana, Israel, and graduated from Alon High School in Ramat Hasharon with a concentration in Visual Arts. She received her BA in Behavioral Sciences from Ben Gurion University, and her MA in Social Sciences from the University of Chicago. She received her doctorate in clinical psychology at the Illinois School of Professional Psychology. She teaches as an Adjunct Faculty at the psychology department of St. Augustine College, and has a private practice, working with children and adults. She has enjoyed teaching Hebrew in Sunday schools throughout her years living in Chicago, in different congregations and Jewish communities such as KAM-II, secular humanistic schools, and for the past several years, as a pre-K teacher at Maccabim.

Suzan Silverstein

Suzan Silverstein was born in Morocco and raised in Ma'alot, Israel. She attended Beit Rivka Teachers seminar in Kfar Chabad and was a teacher in Tzfat. She moved to the U.S. in 1989, and has taught at several schools in the Chicagoland area, including Hillel Torah. Suzan has been a gan teacher at Maccabim for the past 10 years.

Tamara Dudovitz

Tamara Dudovitz was born and raised in California and attended University of California in Santa Cruz as well as Stern College for Women. She is currently working for Prime Quest Management and is happy to join the staff of Maccabim Hebrew School in the accounting department.
