Dr Kate Ahmad

Dr Ahmad is a Staff Specialist at Royal North Shore Hospital and a Visiting Medical Officer at North Shore Private Hospital. Dr Ahmad completed her medical training at The University of Tasmania, graduating in 2003 with honours. She undertook Neurology training in Australia and the UK, followed by a fellowship year in Neurogenetics/neuromuscular disease. She is currently a PhD candidate with the University of Sydney. Her special interests include neuro-ophthalmology and neurogenetics. She has published peer-reviewed scientific papers on these topics and is involved in the running of clinical trials. She is the recipient of an NHMRC post-graduate scholarship and a research grant from the Australian Mitochondrial Disease Foundation. She presents at scientific meetings in Neurology and Neuro-ophthalmology, and is a reviewer for multiple medical journals. Dr Ahmad is also engaged in medical education and hospital administration and is Director of Physician Training and Clinical Supervisor at Royal North Shore Hospital.

Dr Omar Ahmad

Dr Omar Ahmad graduated in Medicine from the University of Tasmania in 2000 and completed his training in Neurology in 2009. He completed a Stroke Fellow in 2006 and was Chief Medical Registrar 2009 at the Canberra Hospital. He has gained further clinical and research experience at the Southern General and Western General Hospitals in Scotland. His main interests are in cerebrovascular diseases and movement disorders. He is also highly accomplished in electroencephalography (EEG) performs this service for the SAN and Hornsby campuses. He is also registered to perform botulinum toxin administration for various disorders including migraine, dystonia, hyperhidrosis and spasticity. Dr Ahmad is a Consultant Neurologist at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and is the current head of Neurology at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital. He is also a Neurologist in the General Medicine department at Royal North Shore Hospital. He is actively involved in teaching of medical students at the Sydney Adventist Hospital Clinical School (SAHCS) of The University of Sydney.

Dr Peter Puhl

Dr Puhl graduated in Medicine at the University of Kiel, Germany in 2000. After completing his basic physician's training in Sydney he commenced neurology training at the University of Lübeck in Germany for 2 years where he gained experience in general and acute neurology and in the use of ultrasound in stroke and movement disorders. He returned to Australia to complete his neurology training, followed by a Fellowship in Neurophysiology at the Department of Clinical Neuroscience at the Concord General Repatriation Hospital in Sydney. Dr Puhl is a general neurologist with sub-specialty interests in clinical neurophysiology, headaches as well as stroke and movement disorders including Parkinson's disease. He is experienced in the use of botulinum toxin in a variety of neurological disorders including chronic migraines, dystonia, axillary and palmar hyperhidrosis as well as post-stroke spasticity. Dr Puhl is the Head of the Neurology Department at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and Consultant Neurologist at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital and the Northern Beaches Hospital. He is a clinical lecturer at the Sydney Adventist Hospital Clinical School (SAHCS) of The University of Sydney.

Dr Zoe Terpening

Dr Zoe Terpening is a Clinical and Research Neuropsychologist with a Doctorate in Clinical Neuropsychology from The University of Sydney. She holds positions at the Sydney Adventist Hospital and the Brain & Mind Centre, Camperdown and also participates in outreach teams to Dubbo and Brewarrina. She has published widely on topics such as neurodegenerative disease, Parkinson's disease and sleep disturbance. She is also the Manager, Strategic Planning and Operations, of the Sydney Adventist Hospital Clinical School. Dr Terpening provides neuropsychological assessments for a range of neurological and neurodegenerative conditions as well as acquired brain injury. She also provides assessments for a range of elite sporting teams in the context of concussion and head injury. She has a particular interest in healthy brain ageing and strategies for maximizing cognitive function in older adults.

Ms Anna Exley

Anna is a highly experienced Neurophysiology Scientist who has worked in the Neurophysiology Health Industry for over 30 years in both the public and private sector. She has extensive experience in adult and paediatric neurophysiological testing, performing standard EEGs, specialised EEG and long term video-EEG monitoring including neonatal, intensive care and intra-operative recording. She is also experienced in Evoked Potentials and Nerve Conduction Studies. Anna has been a member of the Association of Neurophysiological Technologists of Australia Inc. (ANTA) for most of her career and has been an active participant in the State and National Executive Councils over the years. Anna is passionate about promoting national standards for education and training in Neurophysiology Science and Technology.

Prof John Watson

Consultant Neurologist BSc (Hons I), MB, BS (Hons I), MD (Syd), DPhil (Oxon), FRACP Prof Watson commenced medical studies at the University of Sydney in 1973, interrupting this course to take a BSc (First Class Honours) in Neurophysiology. He was the New South Wales Rhodes Scholar for 1977, which enabled him to travel to Oxford University for a Doctorate in Philosophy, also in Neurophysiology. He completed his training at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and later travelled to London where he was a Lecturer and Senior Registrar in Neurology at the Institute of Neurology, Queen Square and the Royal Postgraduate Medical School, Hammersmith Hospital. After a year in this position he became a Welcome Trust Research Fellow at University College London, and the MRC Cyclotron Unit, Hammersmith Hospital. Here he undertook functional brain imaging research using Positron Emission Tomography (PET) to explore the visual system of the human brain, and the relationship between the structure and function of the human brain; research he continues to this day. Prof Watson has published some 50 peer reviewed original articles, invited articles and chapters in books. He is regularly invited to give research and clinical lectures and seminars, examines higher degree theses and has supervised seven Masters and Doctoral students. In 2010 he was appointed Professor of Medicine, Sydney Medical School at Sydney Adventist Hospital and is Associate Dean of the University of Sydney's newest Clinical School, at Sydney Adventist Hospital. He is a Consultant Neurologist at Hornsby Ku-ring-gai Hospital, and Head of Department, Consultant Neurologist at Sydney Adventist Hospital, Consultant Neurologist at The Mater Hospital, and Honorary Consultant Neurologist at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.
