Adrian Birrell

Adrian Birrell was appointed as First Team Manager in December 2018, joining the Club on a three-year deal. The former Ireland and England U19 Head Coach enjoyed a first-class playing career spanning more than a decade, having represented both Eastern Province and County Districts in his native South Africa from 1984, before moving into coaching at the conclusion of his playing career in 1997. After working with the South Africa U19 side and acting as Head Coach of Eastern Province from 1999, the former all-rounder was appointed Ireland Head Coach in 2002. Birrell led the side for a five-year period which saw them gain a place in the top 10 of the ICC World Rankings and also included a successful 2007 ICC Cricket World Cup campaign, in which they reached the Super Eight stage. He was then named England U19 Head Coach in 2010, before joining South Africa's coaching set-up under Russell Domingo, filling the role of Assistant Coach from 2013 until 2017, until his appointment at South Afrcian Mzansi Super Leauge side, Paarl Rocks, earlier this year.

Anna Harvey

Anna graduated with a first class degree in Sports Therapy in 2015 and has been working at the centre since 2016. In addition to working at the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre, Anna has also provided soft-tissue therapy services to the Hampshire Cricket Team and been First Team Sports Therapist for the England and Portsmouth Amputee Football teams. Anna enjoys working with both athletic and non-athletic individuals and has a particular interest in soft-tissue therapy, return-to-function rehabilitation and exercise therapy, leading to her delivering several of the centre's exercise classes from the Wellbeing Gym.

Ben Pocknell

Ben is responsible for junior cricket in Hampshire, including All Stars and Dynamos, as well delivering Hampshire's schools cricket strategy alongside Emily. In addition Ben manages HCB's holiday courses and matchday activation, including the T20 Skills Challenge, at the Ageas Bowl.

Ben has worked at HCB since 2008, firstly as Cricket Development Manager and then Cricket Development Director. Ben is responsible for managing the Development Team and the day to day operation of the business.

Cally Wade

After qualifying in 2001 with a first class honours degree from the University of Southampton, Cally worked at a large NHS teaching hospitals for eleven years and has specialised in musculoskeletal physiotherapy since 2004. She has been working at the Hampshire Wellbeing clinic for three years and for the last twelve years she has used western acupuncture in her clinical practice and is a member of the AACP. She has also trained with the APPI in Pilates and applies this in our physio led Pilates classes and 1:1 sessions with patients. Throughout her career, Cally has worked in a number of physiotherapy fields including A&E, hand therapy & hydrotherapy. She enjoys treating all manner of musculoskeletal conditions and draws from her years of physio experience to help her patients achieve their optimal outcome. As a keen trail runner she is particularly passionate about rehabilitating fellow runners back to health. Cally has been working at the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre for three years and for the last twelve years she has used western acupuncture in her clinical practice and is a member of the AACP.

Charlie Freeston

Charlie Freeston played cricket on the Isle of Wight for Ventnor Cricket Club before joining the Hampshire Cricket as a coach of the youth age groups and performance squads. He subsequently impressed and worked his way up the coaching ladder at the Ageas Bowl. Having worked with the Hampshire Academy for a number of years, Charlie now holds the role of Head of Player Development.

Dan Young

Having completed a degree in sports science, Dan went on to complete his physiotherapy degree which he passed with first class honours. Over the years he has worked for the NHS, Military and private sectors and, since 2013, he has been the centre manager and clinical lead at the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre. He has extensive experience in treating all types of conditions and injuries, including polytrauma, but holds a special interest in exercise related leg pain and long-standing groin pain. His interest in sport and exercise medicine extends beyond elite athletes and Dan is heavily engaged in promoting rehabilitation and exercise in the aging population, particularly those with additional problems that can make it difficult to complete mainstream exercise. Alongside his position at Hampshire Wellbeing Centre, Dan is also a visiting lecturer at Bournemouth University, and is a member of the Hampshire Cricket Medical team.

Danielle Ransley

Debbie Prince

Since qualifying from Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham in 1990, Debbie has worked in Nottingham, Australia and Southampton and has specialised in the treatment of shoulder problems since 1997. Debbie has previously worked with elite rugby teams and competitive sailing crews as a physiotherapist. Debbie also works as a Clinical Specialist Physiotherapist in the Consultant Orthopaedic Shoulder Clinic at Southampton assessing a wide range of shoulder injuries, as well as patients who are recovering from surgery. She has completed a Masters in Injection Therapy module to enable her to inject shoulder patients when necessary with corticosteroid medication. Debbie is also a co- author of a Topical Review collating the latest evidence for Arthritis Research UK on ‘Managing Rotator Cuff Disorders. Debbie is a shoulder specialist with extensive experience in rehabilitating patients following shoulder injury and surgery.

Elisabeth spent 13 years employed by the NHS in Southampton before setting up her own private practice, Hedge End Chiropody and Podiatry Clinic, in 2005. Elisabeth has a great knowledge in treating a variety of foot and lower limb problems in both children and adults.

Emily is HCB's Company Secretary and an Executive Director of HCB Ltd. In addition she oversees Hampshire's Schools Cricket Strategy and manages the workforce who deliver across the county. Giles White

In a professional playing career spanning 11 years at first-class level, White scored more than 6000 runs at an average of more than 30 whilst also claiming 12 first-class wickets as an occasional leg-break bowler.

Having qualified with a Bachelor of Health Sciences Honours Degree in Occupational Therapy in 2013 and specialised in the field of Hand Therapy. She works both with adults and children who have sustained injuries to the hand and upper limb, as well as a variation of congenital and acquired hand coniditions.

Jimmy Adams

Jimmy Adams holds the position of Assistant Coach and after announcing his retirement at the end of the 2018 season, is now part of the set-up behind the scenes at Hampshire. The former Club captain amassed more than 20,000 runs in a career spanning 16 years and 491 matches before his retirement, and he joins the Coaching Staff with a focus on the Hampshire Second XI.

Joanna Spencer

Joanna has been involved in teaching other health professionals about shoulder rehabilitation and in the development of postoperative physiotherapy shoulder protocols. Her experience in triage clinics has given the knowledge of experience to be able to signpost when patients may benefit from either an injection or diagnostic imaging, or referrals to a Consultant. Joanna is a specialist in Shoulder Physiotherapy at the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre. Joanna studied Physiotherapy at St Thomas' Hospital, London, qualifying in 1992.

Born in Bristol, Joe Maiden joined the Club in March 2014 to take up the role of Performance Analyst. In his spare time, Joe plays club cricket for West of England Premier Cricket League side, Rockhampton.

Mel South

Mel qualified in 1993, and has worked in both the NHS, and private practice in the UK and abroad. During her career to date, she has worked with various high level sports teams including ice hockey, basketball & Hampshire rugby. In 1999 Mel began her post as a clinical specialist for patients with foot and ankle problems, and worked closely with orthopaedic Consultants and podiatrists to develop a bespoke clinical service. Mel also works closely with Paediatric consultants across the county to ensure that our younger patients who may be experiencing growing pain or altered gait patterns, receive the correct expertise. These strong working relationships (now in the private sector alone) continue to this date. In 2003 Mel gained a distinction in her Sports Injury and Therapy MSc, and her thesis on the effects of fatigue on ankle joint position sense was subsequently published. Her special interests are lower limb injuries and, in particular, foot and ankle problems; gait analysis and rehabilitation. She also has a post graduate diploma in hydrotherapy, and is qualified as a Barre plus instructor. Mel is a specialist in lower limb injuries, in particular, foot and ankle problems, gait analysis and rehabilitation.

Michael Pollard

Nicola Nunn

Nicola qualified in 2007 from the University of Southampton with an MSc in Physiotherapy, and has worked in both the NHS, and private practice. She has completed the APPI (Australian Physiotherapy and Pilates Institute) matwork series and is a trained acupuncturist holding membership with the AACP since 2009. Nicola has been able to apply these skills within all aspects of her physiotherapy practice. She specialised in Women's Health after 11 years of working as a musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, developing her interest after having her children and realising the lack of support ante and postnatally for women. Nicola is a member of the Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy group. She has completed the POGP Pelvic Health: female urinary dysfunction course and is constantly updating her skills by attending relevant courses such as the pre and postnatal exercises masterclass. She currently works part time in the NHS and also teaches pilates. Nicola qualified in 2007 from the University of Southampton with an MSc in Physiotherapy, and has worked in both the NHS, and private practice. Nicola joined the Hampshire Wellbeing Centre in 2022.
