Carol West

Carol works half a day per week supporting the company running payroll and providing general administrative support.

Daniel White

Daniel's work encompasses technical aspects of Infrastructure design including the specification/design of Sustainable Drainage Systems. His experience covers small single property extension works to full Industrial Estates and Education facilities.

Fergus Shaw

Job Titles:
  • Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers
Fergus has nearly 40 years wide ranging experience in conceptual and final structural design and specification of elements and structures incorporating all principle building materials within the Commercial, Retail, Leisure, Education and Residential environments. Fergus was a Senior Engineer with the fledgling Diamond Wood Partnership when it was founded in 1990, ultimately becoming an Associate Partner before leaving to pursue an alternate career with Hyder Consulting, both in the UK and Middle East, and as an Associate Director with Faber Maunsell / AECOM, before re-joining the partnership in 2010. In 2012 the company developed into Diamond Wood and Shaw Limited, with Fergus taking on sole ownership and Managing Director responsibilities. Fergus is a Fellow of the Institution of Structural Engineers and Forum for the Built Environment as well as being a Member of the Institution of Civil Engineers. He has served on the Midland Counties Branch Committee as Secretary and Chairman and served on the Technical Publications Panel and Professional Conduct Committee at IStructE Headquarters in London. He is currently Chairman of the East Midlands Regional Group and serves on the Council.

Jacquie Thornber

Jacquie started with DWS in November 2022 as the Office Manager. Jacquie's diverse career includes serving in the Women's Royal Air Force, nursing and charity management. With an extensive background in financial and office management - from roles within the construction industry, charities, business and most recently the health sector, Jacquie brings a wealth of skills and experience to her new role. With her multi-disciplinary and 'hands-on' approach, Jacquie is committed to supporting the development of the company and the highly skilled DWS team.

Laurence Cracknell

Laurence joined the company in 2013 after graduating from the University of Warwick. He has 10 years of experience in the structural design and detailing of a wide range of Residential, Commercial, Retail and Educational projects, including work as both a Structural Engineer and CAD Technician.

Leigh Middleton

Leigh has over 10 years experience in Infrastructure Engineering. His project experience extends from small single property extension works to full Industrial Estates and Education facilities.

Rebecca Shimmings

Rebecca started at the company in 2006. She has over 19 years experience in Highway and Drainage design and specification including Sustainable Drainage Systems. Rebecca produces designs ranging from high-level concept details for Planning purposes to full Technical Approval for final Adoption agreements. Project experience extends from small single property extension works to full Industrial Estates and Education facilities.

Richard Barnes

Richard joined the team in 2007 and has more than 25 years experience in various structural disciplines. His experience includes the design of multi-storey timber frame buildings, large to small residential, educational and commercial developments / refurbishments. Richard also works on structural surveys and rebuilding / repairing vehicular impact, subsidence and fire damaged properties.

Russell Hawkins

  • Technical Development Manager
Russell joined the company in 2013 as a Technical Development Manager. He has over 33 years of broad ranging construction industry experience within Civil and Structural Engineering, Technical Architecture, Building Maintenance, Mechanical & Electrical Contracting and Product Design. Sectors include Residential, Industrial, Distribution, Education and Historic Buildings. Russell is very much a client facing member of the team providing leadership and management within the company. Understanding client requirements and attention to detail are very much second nature for Russell, who strives to ensure all projects run smoothly and are delivered to the highest standards. He is the first point of contact for all CAD and Revit based enquiries, training and updates ensuring our staff are fully trained in the latest technologies. Having worked on BIM based projects since 2013 he also promotes collaborative working with any client wishing or needing to implement this level of detail. Russell also looks after our project planning and programming which involves building excellent client relationships and brings cohesion to our every-day working activities.
