Oliver James

RIBA Architect Oliver has been designing and delivering multi-million-pound projects since 2002. He is as comfortable with early-stage conceptual design as construction detailing and is also RIBA Conservation qualified with extensive experience of working in historically sensitive contexts. After qualifying from Newcastle University, Oliver spent nine years in London practicing at the highly regarded RHWL Arts Team as Associate Architect. After returning home to Yorkshire with his young family in 2010, he joined Seven Architecture's Harrogate studio where he worked in the education and leisure & retail sectors. Key projects included the £13M Leeds City College Printworks Campus and £6M Harrogate Everyman Cinema development. Oliver enjoys football, cycling and motor racing, as well as honing his DIY skills.

Steve Pexton

RIBA Architect Steve has a wealth of experience in projects ranging from £20K to £65M in value. He is passionate about breathing new life into older buildings and has gained specialist skills in phased property strategies and complex space planning projects. After qualifying from Newcastle University, Steve spent twelve years at two of the region's foremost design practices, DLA Architecture and Seven Architecture, becoming Associate Director at the latter in 2014. He worked extensively in the education, bluelight, residential and commercial sectors, with key projects including the £16M Rochdale Divisional HQ refurbishment & extension, £13M Leeds City College Printworks Campus and £6M Harrogate College redevelopment. Steve has three young children and enjoys most sporting activities and DIY - when time allows. Practice directors Steve Pexton and Oliver James trained together at Newcastle University before taking different paths for the early years of their architectural careers. Steve returned to his Yorkshire roots and Oliver spent nine years working in London. In 2011, they were reunited in Harrogate where they spent six years working closely at local practice Seven Architecture, gaining further outstanding experience. SP X Architects was formed in 2016, borne out of a shared vision to design and deliver high quality buildings and well considered interventions for open-minded clients in both the public and private sectors from a creative and friendly studio environment. SP X test options and assist with project viability before preparing schemes for Planning, Building Control, pricing and ultimately construction.
