Annabel joined Green Alliance in September 2023 as a political adviser on our Political Leadership theme. Previously she managed C40 Cities work on climate budgeting, an innovative governance mechanism seeking to accelerate urban climate action. Prior to this, Annabel has worked in international climate diplomacy most recently representing UK young people at the youth engagement group to the G7. She has a BA in Human Science from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Environment, Politics and Society from UCL.

Blanche Shackleton

Blanche joined Green Alliance in December 2022 as strategy and partnerships director. She is responsible for raising support for what we do from businesses, NGOs, foundations and individuals. She leads on organisational development, working with staff across Green Alliance on the ideas and opportunities that will increase our influence and impact. Blanche has significant experience in the not for profit sector, having led teams at Guide Dogs, 38 Degrees and Sue Ryder. She has achieved change across a range of policy areas including healthcare, disability, transport and trade. She is on the board of a European digital campaigning organisation.

Charlotte McMenamin-Walshe

Charlotte joined Green Alliance in May 2022. Prior to this, she worked as the trusts and foundations fundraising officer at Quakers in Britain, developing funder support for their climate justice advocacy work and peacebuilding programmes. She has a BA in Spanish and History from Durham University.

Chris joined Green Alliance as a communications assistant in January 2024. He holds a BA in Marketing with International Study from the University of Strathclyde. During his studies, Chris supported communications for an arts charity and interned with the university\'s Centre for Sustainable Development, evaluating the implementation of UN sustainable development goals across its faculties.

Chris Venables

Chris runs Green Alliance's Political Leadership theme. He works to build the political momentum for bold and ambitious political action on the climate and nature crises. He manages our Climate Leadership Programme for MPs and joint UK-focused advocacy work with business and civil society. He previously worked in the Houses of Parliament as the campaigns and political lead for Green Party MP Caroline Lucas on environmental issues. Before that, he led the work of the global health charity Medact on social and economic justice and worked in Brussels for a foreign policy think tank. He has been involved in grassroots organising and campaigning for over a decade. He has a BA in politics from the University of York.

Claire joined Green Alliance in December 2022. She has spent the past 20 years working in the charity sector, specifically in arts and culture. Claire brings experience of having led a small charity as CEO, as well as being the programme lead on a range of UK wide initiatives, particularly working with young people. She is enthusiastic about making greener choices that make her home comfortable to live in as well as low carbon and has co-renovated her Victorian home to become virtually zero carbon.

Dustin Benton

Dustin is policy director at Green Alliance, leading our work across energy, resources, and the natural environment, with a particular focus on getting on track to net zero emissions. Between 2020-21, he was on secondment with Defra, where he was chief analytical advisor to the National Food Strategy. Previously he led our work in the Low Carbon Energy and Resource Stewardship themes, focusing on energy efficiency, renewables, and CCS, and was an expert commentator on resource risk, plastics, circular electronics and the EU-wide Alliance for Circular Economy Solutions. Before joining Green Alliance, Dustin worked for the Campaign to Protect Rural England where he led work on the relationship between landscape protection, climate change, and new energy infrastructure. He holds an MA in Political Thought and Theory from the University of Birmingham and an MA in International Relations and French from the University of St Andrews.

Emily Carr

Emily joined Green Alliance in September 2022 as a policy assistant in our Resources theme. Prior to this, Emily worked as a PR assistant at Baltic Environmental Forum Germany, contributing to publicity for projects related to chemicals and waste management, as well as sustainable mobility. She has a BA in French and German from the University of Oxford.

Prior to this, Fabiana has worked in operations and administration roles at a management consultancy and in private education. Outside of work, Fabiana is passionate about social justice and has volunteered with a local anti-racist grassroot organisation.

Previously she worked on building strong relationships with politicians and decision makers to speed up decarbonisation on behalf of the renewable energy industry at RenewableUK. Prior to this Flossie has worked on the energy and sustainability brief at Field Consulting, as well as parliamentary focussed campaigns for climate action charity Possible, and as a campaigner at Power for People. Frieda Metternich

Frieda joined Green Alliance in 2013 as a policy assistant in the Low Carbon Energy theme, working on the UK's electricity market reform and energy efficiency policies. She became a policy adviser in the Political Leadership theme in 2014 where she worked on the Climate Leadership Programme with MPs, supported climate and environment advocacy, and led the Greener London work with our NGO partners. In September 2016, she became programme manager, working with staff across Green Alliance's policy programmes and developing new areas of work. Frieda previously undertook placements with Crisis Action and World Ecology Economy & Development in Berlin. As part of her studies she worked with the Dutch foundation World Waternet and carried out research in Morocco, focusing on the governance of water and sanitation at local and national levels. She holds an MSc in Environmental Policy and Management from Utrecht University and a BA in International Relations and Development Studies from Sussex University.

Heather Plumpton

Heather joined Green Alliance as a policy analyst in May 2021. She was promoted to senior policy analyst in May 2023. Prior to this she was an interdisciplinary research fellow at the Walker Institute, University of Reading working on climate adaptation and resilience building in Africa. Her research included flood forecasting and food security in Uganda and regional climate risk assessments for Africa and the Middle East. She completed a fellowship at the Parliamentary Office of Science and Technology in 2019 where she wrote a briefing for MPs and peers on climate change and agriculture. Heather has a PhD in Environmental Science from the University of Reading and a BA in Natural Sciences from the University of Cambridge.

Helena Bennett

Helena joined Green Alliance in April 2021 as a senior policy adviser and was promoted to head of climate policy in June 2022. Prior to this, she was the sustainability lead in PwC\'s Disruption & Innovation team, and has worked with the Climate Vulnerable Forum as a research adviser. Helena has appeared on podcasts and panels speaking on the importance of intersectionality, climate justice and human rights in the international climate movement. She has an MSc in Global Environmental Policy from Imperial College and an MPhys in Astrophysics from the University of York.

Holly Brazier Tope

Holly joined Green Alliance in September 2023 as head of politics, focusing on building political action on climate and nature ahead of the next general election. Prior to this, she worked in the Houses of Parliament as Advisor to Alan Whitehead, Southampton MP and Shadow Energy Minister, developing policies on energy and environment. Holly previously worked as a Researcher for Clive Lewis MP and at the Environment Agency helping to manage flood alleviation schemes on the South Coast of England. She holds a BA in Geography and an MA in Environmental Policy, both from the University of Sussex.

James Elliott

James joined Green Alliance in September 2016 as a policy assistant in the Political Leadership theme. In September 2017, he became a policy adviser in the Natural Environment theme. Before joining Green Alliance, James was a Fellow of the Charityworks Leadership Development Programme, working on strategy development and strategic projects in a large charity. He has volunteered in a variety of roles, from conservation to campaigning, and attended the 40th meeting of the IPCC as an assistant to the Netherlands delegation. He was also a Student Research Fellow with Maastricht Law Faculty on a project exploring the connection between climate science and law. He holds an MSc in Sustainability Science and Policy from Maastricht University and a BA in History, Politics and International Relations, and Philosophy from Durham University.

Jenny Baker - COO

Jenny joined Green Alliance in January 2022 as operations director and leads the development team. She is responsible for financial planning, human resources and other administrative processes. She is company secretary and ensures the statutory compliance of Green Alliance as a company and a charity. Jenny has worked in the voluntary sector for many years, most recently for a charity working with young victims of violence in hospital emergency departments. She is a marathon runner and cyclist, and loves spending time outdoors. She has a MSc in Voluntary Sector Management from Bayes Business School, and a MSc in Gender, Sexuality and Society from Birkbeck College.

Johann Beckford

Previously, he worked in various sustainability roles at the University of Sheffield developing its sustainability strategy and completed an internship at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. Karen Crane - CCO

Karen leads on brand and communications at Green Alliance. She oversees the events and publications programmes, media activity, online communications and profile development. She edits Green Alliance's publications, including the blog Inside Track, a platform for expert commentary and opinion on environmental politics and policy issues. She has a BSc (hons) in Rural Environment Studies from the University of London and the RHS General Certificate in Horticulture.

Kim Rennie - CFO

Kim joined Green Alliance in July 2023 as head of finance. She is as qualified chartered accountant and brings over 20 years of experience as financial controller for several corporate businesses. Following a career break 5 years ago, during which time she project managed the design and build of her home, she rejoined the workforce in the role of finance manager for a multi-academy trust. Kim is a keen tennis player and loves spending time in her garden.

Leslene Powell

Leslene joined Green Alliance in March 2021 as HR and Administration Officer. She has been active in the charity and community space for 20 years and has worked with a wide range of organisations such as Childline, Dress for Success, and the Museum of Brands. Leslene is passionate about health, wellbeing, and social justice. Since studying community health development, she has participated in the re-development of a local hospital as a committee member, and been involved in a number of grassroots initiatives, such as providing healthy, affordable food for local residents via a food co-op; broadening trade opportunities for smallholder farmers in Jamaica; and establishing support services for adult survivors of childhood sexual abuse. Leslene has a BA (Hons) Economics from Middlesex University and M.A Communication from Birkbeck, London University.

Liam joined Green Alliance as a policy analyst in July 2022. Before this, Liam worked at the global online climate school Terra.do. He has previously been a data analyst for the digital inclusion charity Good Things Foundation, and a lecturer in astrophysics at the University of Sheffield. Liam is an En-ROADS Climate Ambassador with Climate Interactive, and has volunteered in grassroots climate campaigns and local politics. She previously worked as a public affairs officer at The Wildlife Trusts, working with national and local government to reverse the decline in nature. Before this, Lucy worked on press and public affairs at the National Housing Federation and as a trade journalist within the waste and recycling sector. She holds a BA in English Literature from the University of Sussex and an MA in News Journalism from Nottingham Trent University.

Lydia Collas

Lydia joined Green Alliance as a policy analyst in April 2022. Prior to joining, she completed a PhD in zoology at the University of Cambridge, analysing the cost effectiveness of contrasting agricultural policy approaches to delivering ambitious biodiversity and climate mitigation outcomes. In this time, Lydia also taught undergraduates about conservation science and applied ecology and led the development of carbon reduction policy at the Cambridge University college Hughes Hall. Lydia also has a master's in sustainability from Brock University, Canada, and a BA in natural sciences from the University of Cambridge.

Marta Silva

Marta has worked with Green Alliance since 2001. She is in charge of Green Alliance's finances including payroll and VAT, and supports the head of resources in preparing the management accounts. Marta has been involved with the voluntary sector since she moved to the UK from Colombia in 1985. She started off as treasurer to a housing cooperative, and went on to work for an auditing firm specialising in charities and housing co-operatives. She has since worked for several charities, including the Latin American Women's Rights Service and Demos. Marta has degrees in Computer Programming and in Systems Engineering. Since moving to England she has taken several courses in accountancy.

Roz is currently research director. Roz joined Green Alliance as head of policy in June 2019 and coordinates its policy work. She began her career as a researcher and then worked as an environmental journalist, writing for a number of publications including ENDS Report, Environmental Finance, The Guardian and The Architects' Journal, before becoming the associate editor of the daily EU news service ENDS Europe. Prior to Green Alliance, Roz worked at the manufacturers' organisation, Make UK, where she led the team working on climate, energy and environment policies affecting the sector, including emissions trading, energy pricing, chemicals regulation and air pollution. Roz studied Biology and Geography at the University of Bristol and has an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College, London.

Ruth Chambers

Ruth Chambers has been working with Green Alliance since 2017 to provide strategic leadership to the environment sector on the Environment Act and other major legislation and parliamentary issues through the Greener UK coalition which Green Alliance convened and a dedicated legislation and governance unit. Before joining Green Alliance, Ruth worked with a wide range of not for profit and public sector organisations, helping them to engage with and influence government and parliament. Prior to that, she was deputy chief executive of the Campaign for National Parks. In addition to her Green Alliance role, she is honorary professor of practice at the UCL Centre for law and the environment, a board member of Hexagon Housing Association, an adviser to River Action UK and the lay member on COMEAP, the expert committee that advises the government on the effects of air pollutants on health. Ruth was awarded an OBE in the 2022 Queen's Birthday Honours for services to the environment.

Sarah Williams

Sarah joined Green Alliance in November 2019 as head of the Greener UK unit. The unit co-ordinated and drove forward the Greener UK coalition's work, campaigning with partners across the environmental sector to influence the Brexit negotiations and related law and policy. Sarah was previously Public Affairs Manager at the Aldersgate Group - responsible for advancing the Group\'s policy priorities through engagement with politicians, civil servants and other stakeholders. Prior to this, she worked in Parliament as special adviser to Tim Yeo, former MP and Chair of the Energy and Climate Change Committee. She holds a BA in Modern History from the University of Oxford.

Shaun Spiers

Shaun is the executive director of Green Alliance. Prior to joining Green Alliance in 2017, he was chief executive of CPRE, the countryside charity. Previously he led ABCUL, the credit union trade association. From 1994 to 1999, he was MEP for London South East, serving on the European Parliament's Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee. Shaun chaired the Greener UK coalition of environmental groups and has sat on various government committees, including the Strategic Trade Advisory Group and the Green Jobs Delivery Group. His book, How to build houses and save the countryside, was published by Policy Press in March 2018.

Siri McDonnell

Siri joined Green Alliance as events and engagement manager in March 2022. Prior to this, she worked for five years as the senior grants and events officer at the British Ecological Society. She has a BSc in Ecology and Conservation from Canterbury Christ Church University. After her degree she worked at the RSPB as an events coordinator for London and the Southeast.

Sophia Greacen

She graduated from Trinity College Dublin with a BA in economics and geography.

Steve Coulter

Steve Coulter leads our work on greening the economy. He joined Green Alliance in June 2023 from the Tony Blair Institute, where he was head of industrial strategy and skills. Steve is also senior visiting fellow at the European Institute of the London School of Economics, where he was previously a faculty member teaching and researching European political economy. Steve has also worked in Brussels for the European Trade Union Institute, the applied research arm of the European TUC and for BBC News as an economics and business analyst and producer. He has authored over 22 journal articles, policy papers and books and his latest book, on the economics of industrial strategy, is published in Summer 2023 by Agenda. He was educated at Cambridge University and has a PhD from the LSE.

Stuart Dossett

Stuart joined Green Alliance as a policy adviser in November 2021, and was promoted to senior policy adviser in May 2022. Stuart has an MSc in Environmental Technology from Imperial College and a BSc in Economics from the University of Sheffield.

Tom Jeffery

Tom joined Green Alliance in May 2022 as senior press officer. He has worked in public policy for over a decade, including roles at the Institute for Fiscal Studies and Citizens Advice. He edited the government learning platform Apolitical and Think Tank Review. He has an MA in Social and Political Thought from the University of Sussex.

William Carr

Will joined Green Alliance as a policy analyst in November 2023. Previously, Will worked as a data scientist for think tank Universal Ownership Initiatives on using large language models for analysis of political lobbying. He has a PhD in computational neuroscience from the University of Bristol and a MSci in Physics from Imperial College London. His PhD research focused on memory processing in sleep and wake states, and how these processes are disrupted with age and through conditions such as Alzheimers Disease.
