Simon Ashley is one of the UK's leading experts in the treatment of varicose veins and thread veins. He has expertise in all available minimally invasive treatment options for varicose veins. Formerly, he was the senior vascular surgeon at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust.

Simon Ashley is the Senior Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital and the Founder/Director of the Plymouth Vein Clinic. He is a specialist in all disorders affecting arteries and veins and is a member of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland. He qualified in medicine in 1983 at Southampton University and became a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons of England in 1987. He was a Senior Registrar in St. James' University Hospital, Leeds, and completed specialist training in complex aortic surgery in the United States before being appointed as a Consultant Vascular Surgeon at Plymouth Hospitals NHS Trust (Derriford Hospital) in 1994. After 22 years as a Consultant in the NHS he moved into full-time private pratice in September 2016.
Simon Ashley has remained at the forefront of his profession. Formerly he served as an officer of the Vascular Society of Great Britain and Ireland and has been a member of Council and the Executive Committee of the Society as well as the Chairman of the Vascular Society's Audit and Research Committee. Until recently he was the Honorary Secretary of the Society of South West Vascular Surgeons, a Specialty Advisor to the NICE Committee on New Interventional Procedures and Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee at Nuffield Health Plymouth Hospital. He has remained engaged with clinical research and is the senior author of numerous publications within the medical literature on a range of vascular topics. He is actively involved in medical education and is currently a member of the Court of Examiners for the Royal College of Surgeons of England.
Simon Ashley is an expert in the provision of reports for vascular-related Clinical Negligence claims. He also acts as a Clinical Advisor to the Parlimentary and Health Service Ombudsman and within the NHS Complaints Procedure.
Simon Ashley has been acting as an expert witness in vascular-related Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury claims for over 20 years. He has also acted as a Specialist Clinical Advisor to the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and within the NHS Complaints Procedure. He completed the Bond-Solon expert witness course "Excellence in Report Writing" in January 2017.
