Ambika Hoguet

Dr. Hoguet is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in glaucoma and cataract care. Prior to joining OCB, Dr. Hoguet was on the full time faculty at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, where she was recognized as an outstanding teacher and physician, and a clinical associate in ophthalmology at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. Hoguet completed her undergraduate training at Stanford University in psychology and graduated as a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. She received her medical degree at Duke University and was selected as a fellow for the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. She completed her internship in internal medicine at St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, Columbia University and her residency at New York Eye and Ear Infirmary, where she was elected Chief Resident. In addition, she received the prestigious Louis J Girard award for outstanding research. She completed her clinical fellowship in glaucoma at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, which has consistently ranked as the top eye care center in the United States. Dr. Hoguet has taught many residents, clinical fellows and research fellows. She was Instructor of Ophthalmology at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine and was Instructor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School. In addition, she was Associate Fellowship Director for the Glaucoma Service at MEE. Her clinical research has been published in numerous peer-reviewed scientific and medical journals. Dr. Hoguet is a fellow with the American Academy of Ophthalmology and member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons, American Glaucoma Society and New England Ophthalmology Society. Dr. Hoguet is committed to providing her patients with the highest level of care. She has a special interest in clinical and surgical innovations for cataracts and early and advanced stage glaucoma. She lives in Wellesley, MA with her husband and two sons, and enjoys cooking, bike rides, and swimming with her family when she is not practicing ophthalmology.

Anthony Joseph

Dr. Joseph specializes in the medical, laser and surgical treatment of conditions that affect the retina and vitreous. His areas of expertise and interest include macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular occlusions, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Prior to medical school, Dr. Joseph attended Stanford University where he earned bachelor's degrees with distinction in both Biological Science and Economics. He also earned his Master's degree in Information Science from University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Dr. Joseph received his medical degree from Duke University School of Medicine. He completed his Internship in ophthalmology at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI and his ophthalmology residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute, University of California at Los Angeles. He went on to complete his fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and the New England Eye Center at Tufts Medical Center. Dr. Joseph is a Board-certified ophthalmologist and member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Medical Association, the American Medical Informatics Association, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology. He has authored numerous research articles and has presented his work nationally. Dr. Joseph's goal is to offer his patients the most advanced treatments available and provide the close monitoring and follow up required to ensure his patients receive the best possible care and the best possible result. He is welcoming new patients at OBC locations in Boston, Cambridge and at OCB North Shore in Danvers. Born in Texas and raised in Minnesota, Dr. Joseph lives in Boston where he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Bradford Shingleton

Dr. Shingleton received his training at Princeton University, The University of Michigan and Harvard Medical School. He graduated summa cum laude from Princeton University and was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Scholastic Honorary Society. He received his M.D. degree with honors from The University of Michigan and was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Scholastic Honorary Society. He completed his residency in ophthalmology through the Harvard Medical School at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Following residency training, Dr. Shingleton was awarded a Heed Foundation Fellowship in cataract, glaucoma and anterior segment surgery at the same institution and served for one year as a consultant for the worldwide outreach programs of the International Eye Foundation. Currently, Dr. Shingleton is an Associate Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology at Harvard Medical School and a Clinical Instructor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine. He is a Surgeon in Ophthalmology at both the Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center and the Cape Cod Eye Surgery and Laser Center and maintains clinical privileges at the Massachusetts General Hospital and Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. These academic responsibilities keep Dr. Shingleton active in teaching medical students, residents and fellows in ophthalmology. He is also a board-certified fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and has served as an examiner for doctors seeking certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Shingleton has been selected by his peers to be included in The Best Doctors in America. Boston Magazine consistently recognizes him as one of the top ophthalmologists in the city.

Chirag Shah

Dr. Shah attended the University of Rochester where he graduated magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He graduated with Distinction in Research from the University of Rochester School of Medicine and Dentistry where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. While in medical school, he was one of 25 medical students in the country to receive the American Medical Association Leadership Award. Driven by an interest in community health and research, Dr. Shah earned a Masters in Public Health from Harvard School of Public Health. He completed his internship in internal medicine at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Harvard Medical School. Dr. Shah did his residency in ophthalmology at the prestigious Wills Eye Institute in Philadelphia where he served as a Chief Resident. He stayed at Wills Eye Institute to complete fellowship training in vitreoretinal surgery. He was one of four fellows nationwide honored with a Ronald G. Michels Retina Fellowship Award. He received the Secretariat Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for his contribution to the field. Dr. Shah has spoken nationally and published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He was a Chief Editor of the Wills Eye Manual, one of the best selling ophthalmology textbooks in the world. He also co-authored the Wills Eye Interactive Review of Ophthalmology, and serves as a Co-Editor of both the Clinical Trials section of Retina Times and the Five Minute Consult in Ophthalmology. He authored Our Health is Our Only Wealth: The Lok Swasthya Sewa Health Cooperative, a book based on his public health experience in India that explores a novel indigenous health system. His past and current research interests cover a myriad of retinal conditions, including macular degeneration, retinal vein occlusion, diabetic retinopathy, and retinal detachment. Dr. Shah is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist, and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Society of Retina Specialists. He has vast experience in the medical and surgical treatment of all retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal vein occlusions. He performs advanced retinal surgery for many vitreoretinal diseases, including macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. He is involved in numerous clinical trials and is able to provide the most sophisticated treatments available. Dr. Shah, an avid marathoner, enjoys running and cycling with his wife and children.

Claudia Richter

Dr. Richter is Co-President and Medical Director at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. She specializes in cataract surgery and the medical, surgical and laser therapy of glaucoma and diseases of the anterior portion of the eye. She holds appointments at the Boston Eye Surgery and Laser Center, Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Massachusetts General Hospital, and New England Medical Center. She is a highly regarded teacher of general ophthalmology among the medical residents and students of Harvard Medical School. Dr. Richter received a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry with High Honors from the University of Texas at Austin and was selected to numerous honor societies, including Phi Beta Kappa. She earned her medical degree from the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School; completed her internship in internal medicine at Boston City Hospital; her residency in ophthalmology at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary; and her fellowship in glaucoma at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Richter joined Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and the faculty of Harvard Medical School in 1982 and is Co-President of OCB. She is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and examines candidates for board certification at the ABO. She is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and at the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She has presented scientific papers and courses both nationally and internationally. She received the Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for scientific presentations and instruction courses.

David Reed

Dr. Reed was born and raised in the Boston area. He attended Dartmouth College, where he majored in engineering sciences and completed a master of science in biochemical engineering. He received his medical degree from The Ohio State University College of Medicine in Columbus, OH where he was the recipient of the Academic Excellence Award and was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. Dr. Reed completed his Internal Medicine internship at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center in Torrance, CA and his ophthalmology residency at the Jules Stein Eye Institute. He went on to achieve his fellowship in Vitreoretinal surgery at the prestigious Wills Eye Institute. Dr. Reed is a Board-certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the American Society of Retinal Specialists, and the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the American Medical Association (AMA). Dr. Reed has authored numerous research articles and presented his work nationally. He specializes in the treatment of medical, laser and surgical retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular occlusions, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Dr. Reed's goal is to skillfully and compassionately offer his patients the most advanced treatments available, including anti-VEGF treatments, laser and small incision surgery. Husam Ansari

Dr. Ansari attended Harvard University, where he studied biochemistry and graduated cum laude. He graduated with an MD and a PhD in Molecular Biology from the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where he was recognized with numerous graduate student awards for his outstanding research. Dr. Ansari completed his ophthalmology residency and glaucoma fellowship at two institutions that have been ranked for decades as the top two eye care centers in the country: the Wilmer Eye Institute at Johns Hopkins University and the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute in Miami. During his glaucoma fellowship, Dr. Ansari received the prestigious Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Award. He holds adjunct faculty positions at Harvard Medical School and Tufts University and was a full-time faculty member at the Scheie Eye Institute of the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine in Philadelphia. Here he was recognized as an outstanding clinician, educator, and administrator. Amongst his proudest accomplishments while at Penn was the development of a surgical training curriculum for ophthalmology residents. Dr. Ansari has published numerous peer-reviewed research papers, book chapters, and editorials. His past and current research interests include the surgical management of glaucoma, glaucoma laser treatment, uveitic glaucoma, and surgical training in ophthalmology. Dr. Ansari is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and is a member of the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology, and the American Glaucoma Society. He has vast experience in the medical, laser, and surgical management of all glaucoma-related conditions, including a particular interest in patients who have failed previous glaucoma surgeries and those with concurrent cataract and lens implant issues. He is involved in numerous clinical trials and is able to provide the most sophisticated glaucoma treatments available.

James Hung

Dr. Hung specializes in cataract surgery as well as the medical, surgical and laser treatment of glaucoma. Dr. Hung graduated from Columbia University in New York City with a bachelor's degree in biology and economics. He then earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland. He completed both an internship in internal medicine and an ophthalmology residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was elected Chief Resident and received the Worthen Research Award for best clinical research. Dr. Hung also completed a fellowship in glaucoma through Tufts University- New England Eye Center and Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston. Prior to medical school, Dr. Hung spent time working in the United States Senate, the National Cancer Institute, and as a management consultant for health care information systems. His research interests are varied, focusing not only on glaucoma, but also cataract surgery and the use of electronic medical records. He has been published in several national journals. He is fluent in medical and conversational Mandarin Chinese.

Jeffrey Heier

Dr. Heier is the Co-President and Medical Director, Director of the Vitreoretinal Service, and Director of Retina Research at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston (OCB), one of the largest and most prestigious multi-specialty ophthalmology practices in the United States. Dr. Heier received his medical degree from Boston University, then did a transitional internship and ophthalmology residency at Fitzsimons Army Medical Center. Between his internship and residency, Dr. Heier served as a physician in a Combat Support Hospital in the Persian Gulf War, where he was awarded a Bronze Star. Dr. Heier then completed a vitreoretinal fellowship at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston/Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Heier is on the Executive Board of the Retina Society, on the Executive Committee of the American Society of Retinal Specialists, and a member of the Macula Society. He is past President of the New England Ophthalmological Society, past Secretary of Online Education for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and past President of the Center for Eye Research and Education Foundation in Boston, MA. From the American Academy of Ophthalmology, Dr. Heier received the Senior Achievement Award in 2010, the Secretariat Award in 2007, and the Honor Award in 2003. Dr. Heier is the lead investigator on numerous clinical trials, ranging from phase I safety and proof of concept trials to phase IV post-marketing studies. Dr. Heier lectures nationally and internationally on retinal research and the innovative approach to the treatment of retinal diseases. He has authored or co-authored over 100 works in peer-reviewed journals, as well as served as a reviewer for the New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, American Journal of Ophthalmology, Retina, and numerous other journals. Dr. Heier enjoys spending time with his wife of over 30 years and his two beautiful daughters, one a staff member at the American Ballet Theatre in NYC and the other a dancer in the Pennsylvania Ballet.

Kenneth R Kenyon

Dr. Kenneth Kenyon is one of the world's most experienced eye surgeons in the areas of corneal transplantation, trauma and refractive surgery. He practices, teaches, and conducts research continuously in the Greater Boston area as well as in Europe, the Middle East and the Caribbean. He has performed thousands of corneal transplant and refractive surgical procedures and has trained more than 150 clinical and research fellows. He has authored over 300 scientific publications including a definitive text on ocular trauma. Dr. Kenyon has served on the editorial boards of several ophthalmic journals and is a member of the international advisory board of Tissue Banks International. He is certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology and has received the Senior Honor Award of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. Dr Kenyon was recently named as one of the "Best Ophthalmologists in America". Dr. Kenyon graduated from Harvard College with high honors and from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. He completed residency and chief residency in ophthalmology at the Wilmer Institute of the Johns Hopkins Hospital, followed by a cornea fellowship at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, Harvard Medical School and the Eye Research Institute. After a faculty position at Johns Hopkins, he directed the Cornea Service at the Infirmary from 1978 to 1990, when he founded Cornea Consultants, a Boston-based, internationally recognized center for clinical practice, training and research. Dr Kenyon has performed refractive surgery since 1984 and has participated as an investigator in clinical trials of radial and astigmatic keratotomy, as well as excimer laser refractive surgery. He is a founding partner of the Boston Eye Surgery & Laser Center, the Laser Eye Center of Boston, University Eye & Ear Consultants of Boston, and Eye & Ear Hospital International (Lebanon). Dr. Kenyon is an Associate Clinical Professor at the Harvard Medical School, Senior Surgeon at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, and Senior Clinical Scientist at the Schepens Eye Research Institute.

Mami Iwamoto

Dr. Mami Aiello Iwamoto specializes in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Eye Plastic Surgery. Her expertise encompasses all disorders of the eyelids and tear drainage system. Dr Iwamoto's surgical interests include cosmetic surgery of the eyelids and eyebrows, reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and anophthalmic sockets; surgical management of eyelid tumors; facial nerve disorders; lacrimal obstructions; thyroid eye disease, and medical and cosmetic Botox treatments. Dr. Iwamoto graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University and received her medical degree from Cornell University Medical College. She completed an Ophthalmology Residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins Hospital, which has been ranked as the best overall Ophthalmology training program for the past several years. In addition, she completed a Fellowship in Oculoplastics & Orbital Reconstruction and a second Fellowship in Neuro-ophthalmology & Orbital Disease, both at the Wilmer Eye Institute. Upon completing her fellowship training, Dr. Iwamoto joined the Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston and was appointed Associate Chief of Ophthalmology. She then joined Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston as a specialist in Cosmetic and Reconstructive Eye Plastic Surgery. She is on the faculty at Harvard Medical School and is Surgeon at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Iwamoto has lectured in Cosmetic Surgery courses and at Regional meetings and has published articles, chapters, and abstracts in the field. She is an Associate Examiner and Exam Developer for the American Board of Ophthalmology. She participates in teaching students at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Iwamoto lived in Japan and Switzerland prior to moving to the United States. She is a formally trained artist and continues coursework at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts. Dr. Iwamoto is an active member of the National Ski Patrol and patrols at Sunday River Ski Resort. She is a Trainer-Evaluator for skiing, toboggan-handling, and emergency medical modules in the NSP Eastern Division. She continues her study as a Black Belt martial artist in Taekwondo. Her other avid interests include off-road mountain biking, inline skating, SCUBA diving, and classical piano.

Mark Hatton

Dr. Hatton completed residency at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary where he was selected Chief Resident and held the positions of Associate Chief of Ophthalmology and the Director of Eye Trauma. He remained at Mass Eye and Ear to complete a two-year fellowship in oculoplastics, orbit, and cosmetic surgery. His awards include election to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society, Merck Medical Student Award, and New England Ophthalmologic Society Award for best research. He has authored or co-authored more than 30 medical journal articles and text chapters, and has presented research at 20 national medical meetings.

Michael Raizman

Dr. Raizman received his medical training at Harvard Medical School and the University of Michigan. He completed two fellowships at the Massachusetts Eye & Ear Infirmary, followed by three years of research at Harvard Medical School, funded by a grant from the National Institutes of Health. Dr. Raizman served on the full-time faculty at Harvard Medical School from 1988-1991. He is a Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He serves as an examiner for doctors seeking certification by the American Board of Ophthalmology. Dr. Raizman is an Associate Professor of Ophthalmology at Tufts University School of Medicine, where he has directed the Corneal Fellowship Program since 1992. He is on the medical staff of the Massachusetts General Hospital, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, and Tufts Medical Center. Dr. Raizman has pioneered many advancements in the field of cornea. Under his leadership, Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston was a primary study site for corneal crosslinking, a breakthrough treatment that has changed the visual prognosis for patients with keratoconus. In addition, he has lead developments in laser vision correction and laser therapy of eye disorders. He has participated in dozens of clinical trials and published the results of trials, primarily in corneal surgery and ocular drug therapy. Dr. Raizman has served on multiple medical and advisory boards as well as journal editorial boards. He received a senior honor award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2007 for his scientific presentations and educational activities. He has delivered over 300 invited lectures throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, South America, Europe, and Asia and has been a visiting professor at the medical schools of Columbia University, UCLA, University of Michigan, University of Texas, Loyola, Jefferson Medical College, and others. He delivered a distinguished alumnus lecture at the University of Michigan and was the invited speaker at the 30 year reunion of his Harvard ophthalmology class. He has authored over 100 peer-reviewed medical journal articles, as well as numerous book chapters and books. Dr. Raizman was selected by his peers to be included in the latest edition of Best Doctors in America. In addition, he continually appears on the list of Castle Connolly top doctors and Boston Magazine has repeatedly recognized him as a top ophthalmologist in the city. Dr. Raizman has also been named one of US News & World Report's ‘Top Doctors' and is included in Who's Who in America.

Miriam Englander

Dr. Englander was born and raised in Israel. In 2008 she received her medical degree from Stanford University School of Medicine, Stanford, California, and in 2009 completed her Internal Medicine internship at the Weill-Cornell Medical School. Dr. Englander graduated from the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary ophthalmology residency program, Harvard Medical School in 2012, and in 2014 she completed her fellowship in Vitreoretinal surgery at the Cole Eye Institute, Cleveland Clinic Foundation. Dr. Englander is a Board-certified ophthalmologist and a member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS) and the New-England Ophthalmology Society (NEOS). Dr. Englander has authored numerous research articles in prestigious peer-reviewed medical journals and presented her work nationally. Throughout her fellowship, she has been a sub-investigator in clinical trials for Age-Related Macular Degeneration and Diabetic Macular Edema. She specializes in the treatment of both medical and surgical retinal diseases such as macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and retinal vascular occlusions. She performs advanced retinal surgeries for the treatment of various vitreoretinal diseases, such as macular holes, epiretinal membrane, retinal detachments, and proliferative vitreoretinopathy. Dr. Englander lives in the greater Boston area where she enjoys spending time with her family.

Nicoletta Fynn-Thompson

Dr. Fynn-Thompson attended the University of Pennsylvania, and she graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. She received her medical degree from the prestigious Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. She completed her internship in internal medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard University, and her residency in Ophthalmology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, Harvard University. She trained at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and New England Eye Center/Tufts University School of Medicine as a fellow in Corneal and Anterior Segment disease. She has had experience in evaluating and treating patients with corneal and anterior segment diseases, complicated cataracts, and refractive issues. Dr. Fynn-Thompson has spoken nationally and published in multiple journals. She has also written for text books, including a chapter on eye trauma for The Trauma Handbook of the Massachusetts General Hospita l, chapters on Cornea, Embryology and Anatomy for Review Questions in Ophthalmology: A Question and Answer Book, Second Edition, and a chapter on posterior lamellar endothelial keratoplasty in Smolin and Thoft's The Cornea: Scientific Foundations and Clinical Practice, Fourth Edition. She has also conducted clinical research in wavefront-guided refractive surgery technology. Dr. Fynn-Thompson is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a Diplomate of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. She is an active member within the American Academy of Ophthalmology volunteering her time on two committees. She is also a member of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons and the New England Ophthalmological Society. She performs small-incision cataract surgery, refractive cataract surgery, lamellar and full thickness corneal transplantation surgery, and other anterior segment surgeries and reconstruction. Dr. Fynn Thompson is qualified and performs laser vision correction. She is certified on the VISX Star 4 and Alcon excimer lasers, as well as the Intralase femtosecond laser. She is using the latest technology, wavefront guided custom ablation along with the Intralase laser, to perform refractive surgery. Dr. Fynn-Thompson has a special interest in corneal dystrophies, corneal infections, intraocular lens repositioning, and refractive surgery.

Peter Rapoza

Dr. Rapoza is an internationally recognized authority in refractive surgery, cataract surgery and the medical and surgical treatment of the cornea and ocular surface. As an investigator, he has conducted studies on radial and astigmatic keratotomy, photorefractive keratectomy, LASIK, corneal transplantation and cataract surgery. He has also participated in numerous clinical trials for ophthalmic pharmaceutical agents for the treatment of corneal transplant rejection, ocular inflammation in cataract surgery, dry eye and ocular infection. He has worked extensively, teaching and providing medical care in Africa, the Middle East, the Far East and South America. Dr. Rapoza has appeared on several television programs including "Connie Chung's Eye to Eye", CNN and Public Broadcasting. Dr. Rapoza graduated with distinction from Northwestern University, where he was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Honor Society. He received his medical degree with honors from the Pritzker School of Medicine, University of Chicago where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Dr. Rapoza completed his internship in internal medicine at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics and completed his residency at the Wilmer Eye Institute at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Prior to his fellowship, Dr. Rapoza worked in Tanzania performing a pivotal team study on the causes of blindness in sub-Saharan Africa, uncovering important clues to the transmission of the blinding disorder trachoma. Dr. Rapoza was awarded a Heed Ophthalmic Foundation Fellowship to pursue his sub-specialty training in Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was named the Director of Cornea, External Disease and Refractive Surgery and pursued a full-time academic career for six years. Dr. Rapoza moved to Boston to become a partner in Cornea Consultants. He was a founding partner of both the Laser Eye Center of Boston and Laser Eye Consultants of Boston. Dr. Rapoza is currently an Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology, part-time at the Harvard Medical School. He is also the Assistant Medical Director of the New England Eye Tissue Bank. A highly experienced refractive, corneal and cataract surgeon, Dr. Rapoza has trained scores of fellows and hundreds of other physicians in refractive, corneal and cataract surgery. He has authored numerous medical papers and book chapters. He lectures worldwide and serves as a consultant to the Ministry of Health of several nations. Dr. Rapoza is the recipient of an Honor Award from the American Academy of Ophthalmology for his scientific contributions and leadership in educational activities. He served on the Preferred Practice Pattern panel for Cornea and External Disease, setting practice guidelines for his areas of sub-specialization. Dr. Rapoza is listed in "Best Doctors in America", "Leading Physicians of the World", and in "Trusted LASIK Surgeons", an elite group comprising the top 1% of LASIK, refractive & cataract surgeons in the United States. Boston Magazine has continually recognized him as one of the top ophthalmologists in the region. He is also listed in "Who's Who" in America. He is a United States Coast Guard licensed captain and a graduate of the Citizen's Academy of the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Dr. Rapoza has served in various volunteer capacities with numerous local, national and international not-for-profit organizations. He is an avid sailor, SCUBA diver, fitness enthusiast, dog rescuer and cook.

Tom Hsu

Dr. Hsu attended Harvard University where he graduated magna cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry. He received his medical degree from the prestigious University of California, Davis School of Medicine. After completing his internal medicine internship at the University of California, he went on to complete his residency in ophthalmology at Tufts New England Eye Center. Dr. Hsu completed his fellowship training at Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and Tufts-New England Eye Center in glaucoma with internationally recognized leaders in the field. He has experience in the use of advanced technology for evaluating glaucoma, treating patients with complex glaucoma, and surgical treatment of cataract complicated by glaucoma. Dr. Hsu publishes regularly in Ocular Surgery News. He has also written a book chapter on Nanophthalmos and has presented nationally on glaucoma and anterior segment diseases. He has conducted clinical research on the use of the ultra-high resolution OCT in structural analysis of the glaucomatous optic nerve. Dr. Hsu is a volunteer with the Lions Community Eye Screening program as part of his commitment to preventing blindness from glaucoma and other eye diseases. Dr. Hsu is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist and a Member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He performs advanced glaucoma procedures, including valve placement trabeculoplasty, glaucoma laser procedures, and small-incision cataract surgery. Dr. Hsu has a special interest in the early detection and diagnosis of glaucoma and medical and surgical treatment of glaucoma. His second language is fluency in Mandarin Chinese.

Torsten Wiegand

Dr. Wiegand was born and raised in Germany and holds dual US/German citizenship. He attended Friedrich-Wilhelms Universitaet in Bonn, Germany where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and received the prestigious Fulbright Grant. After receiving a PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Wisconsin, he went on to receive his medical degree from Columbia University. He completed his internship in internal medicine at St. Lukeís / Roosevelt Hospital. Dr. Wiegand trained in Boston at the Harvard Medical School Residency in Ophthalmology at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary and as a Fellow in Vitreoretinal disease at both Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston and the Tufts University - New England Eye Center. He has experience in the medical and surgical treatment of diseases such as retinal detachment, macular degeneration, diabetic eye disease, and other complex retinal pathology. Dr. Wiegand has presented nationally and published in multiple peer-reviewed journals. He also holds patents for his extensive research work. He has conducted clinical research on treatments for retinal detachment, and is currently involved in numerous large, national clinical trials offering the most advanced therapies for macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy. Dr. Wiegand is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and a Diplomat of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He treats his patients with the latest macular degeneration therapies, and performs advanced retinal surgery for many vitreoretinal diseases, including macular holes, retinal detachments, and epiretinal membranes. Dr. Wiegand treats diabetic eye disease with the most advanced medical therapies, laser procedures, and surgeries. Dr. Wiegand has a special interest in macular degeneration, retinal detachment, diabetic retinopathy and uveitis.

Victoria Starks

Dr. Starks is a board certified ophthalmologist who specializes in cosmetic, plastic and reconstructive surgery related to the eye and surrounding structures. Dr. Starks earned her medical degree at University of Texas Southwestern, completed her internship in internal medicine at Baylor University Medical Center and her residency at University of Texas Southwestern, where she was Chief Resident of Quality Improvement. Dr. Starks completed her fellowship training in Ophthalmic Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. During this time, she was a course instructor for the American Academy of Ophthalmology and lecturer to residents at Boston Medical Center and Mass Eye and Ear. She also traveled to Uganda as an MEEI Global Surgery and Health Fellow. Dr. Starks has published numerous research studies and has lectured at ophthalmology conferences across the country. She is a member of the American Society of Oculoplastic and Reconstructive Surgery, the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the Massachusetts Medical Society, and Women in Ophthalmology. She is an avid runner, completing three half marathons, and enjoys hiking, yoga, golf and spending time with her husband and children.
