Lisa North - Founder

Lisa grew up in the UK and on leaving school, commenced a working pupil position at a riding school and obtained her British Horse Society Stage 3 Certificate in Horse Husbandry. As a mother of 2, she continued her formal equestrian qualifications part-time at Writtle Agricultural College, graduating as dux, with a Level 3 Vocational Qualification in Horse Husbandry and Instruction. Lisa later returned to University, where she obtained a 1st Class Honours Degree at De Monfort University in Sports Studies and Sociology. From there Lisa joined Bedford Police soon rising to the rank of Sergeant. Lisa and her husband, Simon, moved to Australia in 2006. Australia provided many opportunities and Lisa has held a number of important roles in the community, including working in the disability field as an Advocate/Guardian with the Office of the Public Advocate and previously as a Police Officer with Victoria Police. Lisa is an RV Acknowledged Retrainer who continues to train and compete on retired racehorses at FEI level in eventing.

Lou Abey - Founder

Lou is the driving force behind her successful horse training business Abey Performance Horses, established from a passion for the thoroughbred and belief that all horses deserve the best possible options for their future. Based on the family beef farm of 1200 acres that Lou manages alongside her husband Will and two young children. In 2003, Lou completed a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture) at The University of Melbourne specialising in Animal Health and Nutrition. For many years, Lou has trained and competed her own retired racehorses successfully at FEI level in both eventing and show jumping. Lou has assisted RV Off The Track with developing models for retraining horses and has been heavily involved in their RESET program. In 2021, Lou was one of the top five finalists in Australia for the Godolphin Award for Equine Welfare and also in the top five for the RV Retrainer of the Year Award.

Lyn Shand - Founder

Born in 1976, Lyn began her journey with horses in Pony Club. Lyn completed a Bachelor of Commerce from Monash University in 1998, Professional Year with the Institute of Chartered Accountants in 2003 whilst working with PricewaterhouseCoopers and became a Registered Tax Agent in 2004. Lyn is a current member of the Institute of Public Accountants and continues to work in her own practice. Lyn completed her Certificate IV in Racing in 2007, is a licensed Trainer with Racing Victoria and trains a small number of racehorses. Lyn is an Equestrian Australia Level 1 Coach and continues her Pony Club connections by attending monthly rallies with her two daughters. Lyn has been retraining and rehoming retired racehorses for more than 25 years and spent a number of years training alongside Olympic/World Equestrian Games athletes in the United Kingdom, Belgium and Italy. Whilst in England, Lyn completed her British Horse Society Stage 2 qualifications and Equine Specific First Aid. Lyn has lobbied Racing Victoria for financial support for retired racehorses since 2011. Lyn is a Racing Victoria Acknowledged Retrainer and continues to retrain and compete in Eventing on her retired racehorses.
