I was born on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in Hurlock, a small rural town in the middle of chicken and corn country. I graduated from Cambridge High School, which provided its academic class an extraordinary education. I began piano lessons when I was 3, and at age 8, I started studying at Peabody Preparatory in Baltimore, MD. I began my first business at age 12, opening a piano studio that was the first on the Eastern Shore to welcome all students, including African Americans...
I have managed small and large staffs, ranging from 2 to well over 200 people. I have been responsible for annual budgets small and large, ranging from $250,000 to $34 million. I have worked with and served on boards of directors, worked with union workers and negotiated union contracts. I have extensive experience partnering with cities and countries, creating individualized programs, and negotiating multi-million dollar agreements.
