Andrew Tjang - CEO, Founder

Education PhD, Computer Science Rutgers University MS, Computer Science Rutgers University BS, Computer Science Rutgers University Andrew Tjang is the co-founder of Cognition IP and is charged with realizing the vision of using technology to change the face of legal service delivery. Prior to founding Cognition IP, Andrew taught on faculty of Rutgers University, New Brunswick for six years. He holds a Ph.D. and an M.S. in Computer Science where his thesis focused on the development of distributed systems and machine learning. In his undergraduate work, he minored in premedical studies and chemistry. He has both published and reviewed research papers in the area of distributed systems reliability, applied machine learning/information retrieval, and computer science education. His research has been funded by Google, and he previously worked at Ask.com as a research scientist. He also holds certifications as a FEMA communications leader (COM-L), specializing in radio communication and data networks in emergency management, and as a National Registry Paramedic, providing advanced prehospital medical care on the state and local levels.

Aroon Karuna

Aroon Karuna is a patent attorney at Cognition IP. Drawing on 12+ years of patent experience, Aroon crafts IP strategies and builds patent portfolios for a variety of startups and established tech companies. His past clients have included Apple, Coinbase, and Salesforce. Prior to Cognition IP, Aroon was a patent attorney at boutique IP firms Schox and Weaver Austin Villeneueve & Sampson. He has also served as Intellectual Property Counsel at GE Healthcare and Wolfram Research. In his career, Aroon has prepared and prosecuted patent applications covering a broad range of fields, including web technologies, blockchain, cryptocurrency, AI, machine learning, computer vision, autonomous vehicles, AR/VR/MR, robotics, database management, customer relationship management, social media and advertising, streaming media, music production, medical devices, wearables, mobile technology, networking, and digital security. Aroon received a Juris Doctorate from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he was a member of the Law Review, and a B.S. in Computer Science from the Illinois Institute of Technology. He is licensed to practice in California, Illinois, and before the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

Bryant Lee

Bryant was a co-founder of Cognition IP and is an advisor to the company. He previously worked at Covington & Burling LLP, a top-tier law firm in Washington, D.C., where he represented Fortune 500 companies in patent matters. He graduated from Harvard Law School where he was an editor of the Harvard Law Review. Before law school, he was a Ph.D. candidate in Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University where his thesis research related to creating large datasets for training AI. He has previously worked at Microsoft, the U.S. Army Research Laboratory, and the Naval Surface Warfare Center.

S. Kameron Parvin

Kameron Parvin is a Stanford-educated electrical engineer who has spent his career developing skills that he brings to bear in his patent prosecution and patent counseling services. Kameron earned his B.S.E.E., M.S.E.E, and J.D. degrees from top-tier universities, consistently near the top of his class. He honed his technical chops as a Silicon Valley ASIC design engineer at such companies as Amdahl Corp., Sun Microsystems Inc., Aureal Semiconductor, and Vivace Networks, Inc., during which he designed five bug-free ASICs related to processor architecture, audio processing, and optical networking. After earning his JD degree as a member of the Order of the Coif. Kameron developed his knowledge of the patent laws while performing patent litigation at prestigious, international law firms, including Fish & Richardson P.C., Perkins Coie L.L.P., and Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP. Kameron achieved a 5-0 record of trials and settlements. Kameron has spent the last five years performing patent prosecution and counseling for clients such as Intel Cop. and ShieldX Networks, Inc. and devotes his current practice to prosecuting patents in areas including satellite and wireless communications, cloud computing, machine learning, and network security software.

Uday brings more than a decade of AI research expertise to help formulate and execute the AI strategy of Cognition IP. He is focused on developing AI algorithms that assist and improve the IP filing and defending efficiency of our team. He previously worked at prominent research labs including Honeywell, Qualcomm and EPFL. Recognized for thought leadership and holistic approach to problem solving, he previously led development of several products starting from conceptualizing, Proof of Concept to product delivery. His technical interest and expertise is in deep learning, machine learning, computer vision, natural language processing, audio analytics, predictive modeling, graph theory and other optimization methodologies. He has a Masters degree in Computing (M.Tech) from IITBombay and has seven granted patents, one trade secret and three IEEE publications.
