Aryn A. Pyke

Dr. Aryn Pyke is a Cognitive Cyber Research Scientist at the Army Cyber Institute and an Assistant Professor in Behavioral Sciences & Leadership. Her current research interests include human-computer interaction, investigating the psycho-physiological responses to cyber threats, and enhancing the effectiveness and cognitive fit of training techniques and intrusion detection tools for cyber operators. She hails most recently from Pittsburgh where she conducted post-doctoral research at Carnegie Mellon University investigating math learning and the benefits of visuo-spatial representations. Her doctoral Cognitive Science degree provided an interdisciplinary background for the study of cognition (artificial intelligence, psychology, human-computer interaction, linguistics, and neuroscience). Prior to her PhD, she obtained BASc and MASc degrees in Electrical and Computer Engineering. With experience and interests in both Psychology and Engineering she is very pleased to be teaching courses in the Engineering Psychology track in BS&L, and conducting research at the Army Cyber Institute (ACI).

CPT Bierbrauer

CPT Bierbrauer is a graduate of the Signal Basic Officer Leader Course in Fort Gordon, GA. He is also a graduate of the United States Marine Corps Expeditionary Warfare School and the honor graduate from the United States Marine Corps Expeditionary Communications Course, both located in Quantico, VA.

Dr. David V. Gioe

Dr. David V. Gioe is Assistant Professor of History at the United States Military Academy at West Point, where he also serves as the History Fellow for the Army Cyber Institute. Dr. Gioe spent over 16 years in the U.S. intelligence community, beginning with appointment in 2001 as a Presidential Management Fellow in the FBI National Security Division. He then served as an analyst in the CIA Counterterrorist Center before earning field certification as an Operations Officer. Dr. Gioe served multiple overseas tours as a case officer before leaving CIA to pursue his doctorate under Professor Christopher Andrew at Cambridge University. He has published in The National Interest, World Politics Review, Lawfare, War on the Rocks, Foreign Policy, and The Strategy Bridge, and co-edited a book with Christopher Andrew and Len Scott on the Cuban Missile Crisis. Edinburgh University Press will publish his forthcoming co-authored book, American Spies, in 2018. Dr. Gioe retains his commission as a Naval Reserve Foreign Area Officer with service in the Office of Naval Intelligence, the Defense Intelligence Agency, and overseas assignments in East Africa, Europe, and the Far East. His most recent position was Director, Human Intelligence and Counterintelligence, for the Combined Joint Task Force - Horn of Africa. Before that he was Director of the Naval Intelligence Officer Basic Course (Reserve) supporting the EUCOM Joint Analysis Center where he also served as Adjunct Faculty for National Intelligence University. Dr. Gioe's personal military decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal and the Joint Service Commendation Medal, in addition to other personal and unit awards.

Dr. Paul Maxwell

Dr. Paul Maxwell is the Cyber Fellow of Computer Engineering at the Army Cyber Institute and an Associate Professor in the department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at West Point. He served 24 years in the Army as an Armor officer. His military assignments include Battalion Executive/Operations Officer, Brigade Logistics Officer, Company Commander, Scout Platoon Leader, Company Executive Officer, Mechanized Infantry Platoon Leader, and Tank Platoon Leader. He is a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and is a CISSP. His research interests include programmable logic, computer architecture, robotics, robustness, and cyber policy.

LTC Joseph (Joe) Catudal is a Research Scientist in the Cyber Operations Research and Engineering (CORE) Team, Army Cyber Institute. He is a Data Systems Engineer with experience in tactical communications planning and operations, as well as cyber security. His research interests are in the areas of computer and network security, internet measurement and metrics, optical internet infrastructure, and sensing systems.

LTC Nathaniel D. Bastian

Nathaniel D. Bastian, PhD is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army, where he is an Academy Professor and Cyber Warfare officer at the United States Military Academy (USMA) at West Point. At USMA, LTC Bastian serves as Division Chief, Data & Decision Sciences at the Army Cyber Institute (ACI), as well as a faculty member of Systems Engineering, Mathematical Sciences, and Computing. As the ACI's Chief Data Scientist, LTC Bastian oversees the ACI's infrastructure, platform, tooling and pipelines for data engineering, data science, and software development computing environments and capabilities. As Research Lab Director and Senior Research Scientist, he directs and manages the ACI's Intelligent Cyber-Systems and Analytics Research Lab, the ACI's Internet of Things Research Lab, the ACI's Cyber Modeling and Simulation Research Lab, and the ACI's Cognitive Security Research Lab. As Principal Investigator and Technical Program Manager, his research, development, analysis and advisement activities, in collaboration with Government, Academia, Industry, FFRDC, UARC and National Lab partners, aim to advance the body of knowledge in operations research, data science, artificial intelligence, machine learning, statistics, scientific computing, applied mathematics, and cognitive science to support the cyberspace domain for stakeholders and project sponsors across the Army, other Services, Department of Defense (DoD), Intelligence Community, and Nation. Overall, his portfolio aims to research, develop, test, evaluate, analyze, and assess innovative, assured, intelligent, human-aware, data-centric, and decision-driven capabilities that enable information advantage and decision dominance in support of multi-domain operations with greater reliability, performance, and scalability in complex, contested, congested, and continually evolving battlefield environments. LTC Bastian has co-authored 100+ refereed journal articles, conference papers, book chapters, and textbooks. He is the recipient of numerous academic awards and honors, to include a Fulbright Scholarship and National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship, and he has received $4M+ in research grants from multiple government organizations. LTC Bastian was previously an Operations Research / Systems Analysis (ORSA) Officer with assignments as the Chief Artificial Intelligence Architect at the DoD Joint Artificial Intelligence Center, Operations Research Scientist at the ACI/USMA, and Analytics Officer at the U.S. Army Human Resources Command. Prior to this, he was an Aeromedical Evacuation Officer and UH-60 Black Hawk MEDEVAC Aviator with the 25th Combat Aviation Brigade.

LTC Todd Arnold

Todd Arnold is a Cyber officer and Research Scientist in the ACI, who holds a PhD in electrical engineering, as well as MS and BS degrees in computer science. As the CEMA research group lead, Todd focuses on bringing operational units, other government agencies, private industry, and academia together to solve operational cyber challenges (development and integration) facing the U.S. Army in the next 3- 5 years. His most recent assignment was to establish the Cyber Solutions Development Detachment and serve as its first lead developer at Ft. Meade, MD. His research interests include cyber branch force structure and education, network routing protocols, Internet measurements and mapping, network performance, and cybersecurity.

MAJ John Pavlik

John Pavlik is a Software System Engineer and Research Scientist at the Army Cyber Institute as a member of the Intelligent Cyber-Systems and Analytics Research Lab (ICSARL). Maj. Jessica Dawson

Major Jessica Dawson enlisted in the Army as a Private E2 in 1995 and attained the rank of Sergeant First Class before commissioning in 2007. Upon earning her commission, Major Dawson was assigned to the 3rd (Greywolf) Heavy Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, where she served as the brigade S6, platoon leader for a Joint Network Node Platoon, and executive officer for the Brigade Signal Support Company. She served as the commander of Charlie Company 57th Expeditionary Battalion and the commander of HHC 62d Expeditionary Signal Battalion before being selected to teach at the United States Military Academy at West Point. Major Dawson currently serves as an Academy Professor in Army Cyber Institute. Major Dawson's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal (2OCL), the Army Commendation Medal (5OCL), the Army Achievement Medal (7OCL), the Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), the National Defense Service Medal (2), the Overseas Service Ribbon (3), the NCO Professional Development ribbon (2), the Global War on Terror Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, and the Meritorious Unit Citation. Major Amanda Draeger

Sergeant Major Amanda Draeger enlisted in the Army in 2003 as an Information Technology Specialist. She transitioned to Cyber Network Defender in 2014, and Cyber Operations Specialist in 2015. Her past assignments include the Cyber Protection Brigade, 780th Military Intelligence Brigade (Cyber), and Army Cyber Command. She holds a Bachelors of Science in Information Technology, emphasis in Security, from Western Governors University, and a Masters of Science in Information Security Engineering from SANS Technology Institute. She has numerous industry certifications, including GIAC Security Expert (GSE). SGM Draeger's military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Advanced Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, and the Sergeants Major Academy.
