In terms of his search and selection activities, Derek is focused on executive, management and specialist appointments across a broad spectrum of disciplines and industry sectors. He is also actively engaged in Behavioural Analysis, Team Building interventions and Career Transition counselling - a topic on which he and Ross published a book entitled "A Bend in the Road - A Guide to Career Transition".
Derek was first employed in a technical capacity within the Unilever Group and spent the first 17 years of his career in various management roles within the Fast Moving Consumer Goods industry in Southern Africa. In 1980, He was attracted to management recruitment and executive search spending the next 40 years, initially in his own consultancy before joining a major South African organisation representing the then MSL Group, Coutts and DBM. Derek later served as Managing Director of both the MSL and DBM divisions until 2001 when he resigned to re-establish the DMA Group which he now manages with his son Ross.
Derek enjoys the outdoors, spending time with the family, is an avid rugby supporter, a keen cyclist and has served as Chairman of a Community Service Organisation.
