While tin roofing is still commonly used today, it is no longer the most common type of metal roofing. While tin was the first metal roofing material used in the United States, its popularity did not catch on until the late 1800s. Fortunately, tin was relatively light, easy to install, and maneuver. After that, aluminum replaced tin as the primary metal roofing material. Today, tin roofs are extremely rare. The majority of houses with metal roofs are either made of aluminum or metal.
