Concepts and fundamentals are the foundations of learning. To understand and master a subject, one has to know its fundamentals. Having spent about 40 years in teaching and training, that is my mantra and that is what I preach to my students. In fact, the reason I have done fairly well in academics and have seen other do well, is primarily because of our penchant for learning the fundamentals. I did my schooling and undergraduate studies in India and got admitted to Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), a prestigious engineering school. Admission to IIT is extremely difficult. Only the top 1 - 2 percent of the applicants are admitted. After completing my undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, I came to the U.S. for my Graduate studies. To get admitted to graduate schools in US, with tuition waiver and monetary assistantship, one has to score above 90 percentiles in GRE.
