David Backhouse

David Backhouse is a highly experienced governor with more than 30 years' distinguished service chairing governing bodies in both the primary and secondary sector. His advice and counsel are regularly sought by senior officers across several local authorities and until recently David chaired the Schools Forum in Redbridge. He was appointed by the Secretary of State for Education to support a primary school in Barking and Dagenham and his work there as the vice-chair of the IEB was invaluable in developing school leadership and securing a ‘good' Ofsted judgement. David is very knowledgeable in most aspects of governance and has earnt a reputation of being unscrupulously fair when dealing with even the most complex of cases arising in schools. He is an experienced investigator and has chaired many panels in relation to exclusions, discipline and complaints. David Backhouse is now retired having spent his professional career in engineering and planning roles in the telecoms industry. Ian Hickman

Ian Hickman worked at a senior level in local government in the south east before working at a national watchdog (the Audit Commission) for fifteen years ending up as Associate Controller. He has also been Chief Operating Officer for a twenty school multi academy trust in the north of England for three years and a non executive for the £60 billion Education and Skills Agency for the last five years. He has been a school governor for twenty two years at a large PFI secondary in north London spending over ten years as Chair of Finance. He also was Chair of Finance at two primary academies in north London for five years. In all of these roles good corporate governance and stringent financial planning has been a key feature of his work. Ian has also been a visiting university lecturer on project and risk management. In recent years he has focussed on public sector leadership development running the London Leadership Programme for 150 nominated future leaders across London. Keith Carrano

Keith Carrano retired from PwC after twenty years service in Risk and Compliance. He had a global remit to design and implement risk and compliance frameworks for multi national organisations. Keith is a local leader of governance for Enfield and Chair of Governors of both Enfield County Girls School and Garfield Primary School, he is also Vice Chair of Highlands Community School and a Trustee of a successful Multi-Academy Trust. Keith is a Director of a housing company that provides affordable housing to the local community. He has twenty years experience in school governance and is Chair of Highlands PFI committee which is responsible for provision of school services. Keith Carrano is a Local Leader of Governance for Enfield LEA, and is Chair of a large single-sex Secondary and a busy Primary in a challenging location, as well as being Vice Chair at a large community comprehensive.

Matt Miller

Matt Miller is a retired senior detective in the Metropolitan Police Service and highly experienced in leading and managing school based investigations. He is one of the team commissioned by the National College for Teaching and Leadership to deliver external review of governance training. He has conducted reviews of governance in many different types of school settings and is considered an expert in this field. He is the strategic lead for governance in Enfield and delivers governor training across London and the south of England. He is also licensed by the Home Office to deliver ‘Prevent' training. He is the Chair of Governors at Highlands Secondary School since (outstanding Ofsted judgements 2011 & 2014 and subject of Ofsted ‘from coasting to soaring' case study 2012) and was also appointed by the Secretary of State in June 2013 to chair an Interim Executive Board in a struggling primary school. Matt was awarded the MBE in the Queen's Birthday Honours List 2016 for services to education. Matt Miller is a National Leader of Governance Adovcate and hugely experienced in governance. He is long-standing Chair of a large community comprehensive in North London, rated Outstanding, and has advised LEAs and Academy Trusts of all sizes.

Sharon Gray

Sharon Gray is an SEN specialist, OFSTED inspector and member of the Youth Justice Board and the committee that represents SEMH schools nationally. She is an Education Consultant at Wholehearted Learning and Senior Catalyst for an International Charity - ecl foundation.

Stephen Way

Stephen Way has a background of a career in IT, latterly as IT Director in an FTSE100 company with a global remit. He is Chair of Governors of both The Latymer School in Edmonton and of Prince of Wales Primary School in Enfield, and Vice-Chair of Enfield Learning Trust, a successful Multi-Academy Trust. Stephen is a Trustee of the Latymer Foundation at Edmonton and was formerly Chair of the Board of Greater London North Scouts. Stephen has worked with maintained schools, voluntary aided schools, single school academies, multi-academy trusts and University Technical Colleges and the Baker Dearing Trust. He is experienced in brokering Academy Trust mergers. Stephen Way is a National Leader of Governance and Chair of Governors of a high performing selective state school, Chair of a maintained primary school in a very deprived area and Vice-Chair of a successful Multi-Academy Trust. He is also a charity trustee and former charity board Chair.
