This means looking beyond the next flood or storm to understand long-term climate vulnerabilities. It means helping society to prepare for and adapt to future weather extremes and other climate impacts through strategies and plans for disaster risk reduction. This requires a good analysis of climate change and flood risk mapping, and good knowledge of the urbanized vulnerability to floods in such territories. Finding solutions to these challenging disasters also requires close collaboration between scientists, practitioners, and residents from local, regional, national, and international organizations whether they are public or private.
